The advantage of having the body bonded to the frame is less corrosion. Aluminum screwed on to steel, generates ionic flow between dissimilar metals resulting on corrosion!
Those drawer slides are heavy duty (6:20). We used them all the time to load 50+ pounds of video equipment in racks. Good stuff is being used in an amazing camping build. Quality company!
Brother I don't know which job you do while wearing the blue super suit but if you're not interviewing people they're wasting talent ! Great job leading this guy through the interview with questions that helped him discuss the product. Just another reason I think your vids are some of the best on the tube. Thanks for putting in the work and stay safe.
1AbominAble1 lol...i tell everyone on my squad....you need a side gig. diversify! If someone offers me a job camping for a living....or talking guns for a living....im so gone. lol
That dude seemed like he knows his product and actually has confidence in his product. When I deal with people I prefer the calm laid back style he seemed to have.
Overland Explorer I went to tour website to look up a loaded model of this trailer but I found no trailer options? Is this no longer in production. I’m looking into buying a camper like this so I want to have a comparison with several models that are similar. Hope this is still made.
Great video Ive been trying to find videos on the overland explorer TDK and besides this one there are only 2 others, but they didn't even come close on the information in this video, Thank you
Love 12:04 Sales bloke-it’s used in the automotive industry all the cars people drive are bonded together Mixflip-yeah I used to work for Toyota making cars Sales bloke-yeah (looking smug) Mixflip-yeah I welded all the cars together Sales bloke-(changes subject regrets everything) For some reason as someone with a PhD in chemistry and an AA in engineering I don’t believe any adhesive could bond over 11,000lbs per ft squared on a perfectly smooth composite style of material because there is nowhere for the adhesive to grab, wood no problem grain is perfect for adhesive but not composite. For some reason I know all that bloke said was a Slight exaggeration
It's not that I don't like some of the features of this trailer, but for a whole lotta trails down here in the south west, she's too wide. Those fenders would get demolished. As much as they are touting creature comfort's I would sure think they could improve their water/sink design. Having to walk around The pull out kitchen area just to get to the water seems less than perfect. I also don't see much exterior lighting. Obviously it can be added on later, but when you're traveling all the way till dusk, being able to turn on some lights and set up camp is pretty helpful
I'll play devils advocate here. I live in the southwest desert region of the USA....we have huge wide open spaces out here so I can see this trailer fitting anywhere a Jeep can go. Grand Canyon, Zion Nt. Park, Moab Ut. Arches etc. Plenty of room for this trailer. As for setting up. There isn't much to setup. Just park, open the doors, slide stuff out and start cooking. I think you can configure the trailer any way you want. If you want things moved around....they will do it for you. This model you see in the video was just a demo. It was purchased the first day. They drove it back to Canada to ad a few details the buyers wanted. It doesn't come the way you saw it. It was just an intro/demo. If you want lights, just ad that to your build list when they meet with you.
I hate when sales guys call buying their products an investment, usually you invest in something with the hopes of making money. Cars and campers will always be worth less than what you paid, until of course it becomes an antique.
Seem cold packages most trailers hve r 1 double pane & 2 the compartments & lines, unless talking long trailers where floor key wall thickness not much of an issue w/small trailers & slide ins. Build quality is &design is key as far as cold but not a factor on small space heating. Market is going w/insta hot water &heating rather than furnace+ heat pump AC's on roof & that is enough bulk of market. Even pop tent ppl roof tent ppl find a way to heat but if using it's all about compartments & plumbing. If heat no problem if not heated big problem. They make a heated water hose in the NOW, perfect example.
yeti I was thinking that, that thing couldn’t survive an English winter let alone the out back, saying that this one specifically is pretty chintzy and all the bloke said was because sales will pay him
Obviously very well made with great parts and attention to detail. But I have to give practicality and luxury points to some of the amatuer builds I've seen here in YT at 1/5th the price on a bigger frame where you can walk inside to your bed, closet, sink, etc. If going super subcompact, why not design it to explode out at destination for more space?
The rear hatch door is tiny bit low & it pitches back toward the trailer? not good idea, unless it has gutter & down spout. I prefer the rear swing door rather than lift up so no ht issues & bc build quality can hard mount onto door.
"40 gallons [of water] only goes so far..." (16:10) Umm, 40 gallons is a ton of water for a trailer this size and this type of application. You are only really using water for cooking, and the occasional shower or rinse/off. It is almost 350 lbs of water fully filled up. Thats way more than you would need unless you are out for weeks at a time.
Nice trailer. I thought the philosophy behind the adhesive only being used to secure the box to the chassis was a huge fail. No justification for a non-mechanical attachment. Adhesives fail over time, especially under extreme temperature deviations. The fact that the adhesive is very strong does not justify why no mechanical connection was made. I like the trailer though. I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Frank, short answer is GTS (Google That S**t) ;-) Just do a youtube search and you will get it. You can do it yourself on small items. Big items you take to shop that does it.
T8 DO I hear you, however, there are industrial adhesives today stronger than many metal fastners...You would be shocked how many things on cars, by all auto makers, that use super strong adhesives...Keep in mind, were not talking "gorilla glue" or "super glue" crap here that can be knocked apart fairly easily...This stuff is ridiculously strong.
Can you give an example of a production car from a major manufacturer that has a component of similar weight that isn't mechanically attached? I honestly don't think there is one. There probably isn't an example legal for the road in the US that has a tenth of that weight just attached with adhesive.
@@HaplessMagician I worked on wings for V-22 Ospreys. The wing skins were bonded to the stringers, or (frame), but the military insisted on having fasteners installed too. Even on legit paperwork they were called "chicken fasteners", insinuating that they were scared. That was on aircraft, this is a trailer.
Don't fool yourselves, boys. All manufacturers use panel bonding adhesive, from Aston Martin and Mercedes, to Ford, Toyota, and GM. Anything from door skins, roof panels, box sides, and quarter panels are all bonded. Are they bonding a single piece like this camper shell? No. But why would you think that a few bolts, with a surface area of what, a few inches, would hold better than an entire strip of adhesive, spread over a much larger area? 3M adhesive has a shear strength of between 3000 and 4000 psi on steel. You're probably tearing the material apart before those bonds break.
I love this, but it wouldn't work for The Hubs and me, as well as the 3 kids. Can someone point me to a travel trailer that is super durable and will last, that can sleep 3 kids, and isn't too big? I can't seem to find what I'm looking for, and am hoping someone knows of a smaller manufacturer that produces something like this. We need an indoor shower, as our camping will be in the Canadian Rockies. Too cold at points during the camping season/hunting season for an outdoor shower.
If you already own a truck I would seriously consider this all weather camper. You could ad a shower if needed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ig29gS-NCiY.html
If you need a built in shower and sleeping for the kids but tiny and low profile take a look at this option as well. It's not built like a tank but it's hard sided for cold weather and still has a shower inside. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b1SFtio5ZmM.html
April Mae you grab some snacks and wait the storm out. you do the same thing you do when you camped with tents....except the wait is a lot more dry and warm inside this.
There are some small companies that make a bunk bed trailer but they are not pop top style. They are just slightly bigger with a shelf only big enough to sleep a small child or store more gear inside. There is a company that makes a pop top off road trailer but it's just for standing height. It's not for bunk beds. Im guessing you could hire them to build you a custom trailer that has bunks instead of a queen bed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IvdyCbI8jds.html
mixflip Thanks for the tip, I’ll take a look. I found a Taxa Cricket Trailer that can sleep 2 adults on a lower queen bed with 2 kids on hanging beds with a pop top. It’s very close to what I’m looking for, but it would be nice to see more trailers like it on the market.
I will be going by their shop twice next week, and I could have some time after I hit the gun range there! I noticed that you didn't film the ER...someone pull and exclusive on it?
I tried to film the Earthroamer but it was full of clients every time I stopped by so I just gave up. I filmed the Global Expedition Vehicles booth though. They make huge off road RVs too.
sickjohnson there's another short video on their last year's model at the expo and it shows the battery compartment in that video. It also shows the galley more finished but has the old style fridge setup
mixflip their website shows the price at $27,650.00. And that's before any options. If those were only $20k, I'd buy one yesterday. $30k is still a great price for that quality, once you get past the $30k mark, I think that is tough to swing for the average person.
sam adams, they are based in Alberta, Canada, the website prices are in Canadian dollars. So $30K CDN is $22K USD at todays dollar. A smoking deal for buyers south of the Canadian border
Len Silvester thank you Len, I didn't realize the exchange rate was so different. Yeah, I'd say. There is nothing like that in the States. Very rugged. Great trailer!
Nice vid. Sound problem but you know that,.That drawer extension doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I can see it too easy to be used as a seat. That would break it down. ( no matter how many you tell folks not to)
MrWinger1951 this trailer sold in 24 hours being at the show. it's a tool for a job. if you were going from Prudo Bay Alaska to the bottom of Argentina 40,000 miles off road....this might be the perfect option. if you are going to the local camp site for the weekend....you could do that with a ground tent.
I 'm not doubting that at all, but long before there were sophisticated and very expensive over land vehicles and trailers, there were guys who just did it with the best options and equipment they had, including on motorcycles. I've covered 6000 miles on my Harley, over 3 weeks, all by finding a place to tent, and tens of thousands of miles truck camping. But anyway, its a very nice unit for sure. I'm glad there are people who can afford them.
MrWinger1951 very true. it's all relative. somewhere in Africa there is a guy in a loin cloth and a walking stick shaking his head at our 4x4 truck campers and nylon tents. lol He is thinking...you don't need that to enjoy the land. My people have been doing it just fine barefoot for 1,000's of years.
I was replacing gas struts on my vehicle so I had to look this up. The rod goes downwards so the lubrication inside the cylinder sits around the seals between the cylinder and the rod. If installed the other way, the lube sits at the bottom of the cylinder and the seals dry out. It seemed like universal instructions.
Hai ~ I really like the trailer. It is a trailer not seen in Korea. Is it possible to import into Korea? I would like to know the price and the possibility of the certification process when I come to Korea.
Did the title mean Overland Explorer instead of Overland Expedition? Was expecting a different group of people that go to Overland Expo. Good video nonetheless!
mixflip well, I'd disagree... I think teardrop is the shape of the unit plus the kitchen being in the back... but no matter. Still enjoyed seeing this trailer!
That trailer would be perfect if it was smaller (no inside sleeping), had the same stuff, and a tent on top with a solar collector on top of that. It would probably be worth having some sort of "electronics" station on it too so one can charge phones, i-pads, etc.. The smaller trailer on their website is a bit too small for some. A model in-between the two would be great. The flatbed truck seems just about perfect. Perhaps a 4x4 and/or sockets instead of just usb. Just my educated opinion. Take it or leave it.
Nonya Businesss my option after sleeping in the trailer is....there is no way I would want to sleep in a tent if I can avoid it. sleeping in these trailers is heavenly as far as camping goes. I have slept in tents in rain and snow and mud....it sucks.
This trailer has no insulation. That is so cheap and dumb. They are showing undercarriage frame - nothing. Interior ceiling framing - nothing. The space is there. FILL IT UP. At least something.
The roof rack is construct sturdy legit, only no tie down spots. The fender keeps u from letting legs hang out the side, not good. Front tray nope vs every1 will want instead front storage box, every1. Inside dimensions smallest I hve seen fail, & side windows r again smallest I hve seen on any trailer fail. This is 17'not 8/4/20' but design is letting them down not quality.
mixflip I think you've got the right definition, follow this link for some further definitions. As for dead rabbits, the news media named Irish street gangs in NYC in the 1850's that. Great reviews, wish icould justify spending that much $$$$$$ on one of those campers. www.macmillandictionary.com/license/amp/dictionary/british/dead-cat
