2:20 The P-51H does have 150 octane fuel, it just isn’t a modification you unlock. That’s why with its Merlin engine it can reach its absolutely insane 90” Hg manifold pressure and ~2300hp. The Hornet, with its own Merlin, can only do 80” and ~2200hp. If both have late-war Merlins and 150 octane then why does the P-51H have more MP/power, one may ask? It’s because the P-51H uses water injection to boost the power limit even further. That’s why it has limited WEP (limited water tank).
A lot of the things you said about the Hornet is why the P-38L is one of my favorite props in the game that aften gets overlooked, just tuned down for 4.7
"the hornet is the most op piston fighter in game" the hornet: -Handles worse than a pe8 -has the four worse 20mm's in game -flat spins the moment it gets asymmetrical thrust -while fast it's not even as quick as the p51h or the f8f-1b
@@BARelement nah, he just got the stats up when Britain would fight mostly alongside USA against slow zeroes and German planes and when the weird case was vs USA it was mostly bombers. The P51H is the bane of your existence and if you miss out a re2005 it will definitely catch you up if you start diving a single degree down more than 15 negative pitch.
@@kingghidorah8106 If you are noob you say so. I have no problems fight those planes you mentioned. But as I said. If u know how to fly u can top every single game.
I remember when i was still new at the game and stuck at 5.7 with the Bf109K and got killed quite a lot by the hornet mk3. I never really knew what this plane actually was until now. I never bothered to look it up since it was still a pretty rare sight for me. Really cool seeing a video about a plane like this.
The cinematics are getting better all the time! I remember Adam514's old video on the Hornet, it flies like an early jet but without the poor acceleration. It's a shame it has been hit hard by the realshitter treatment.
i think it's high fire rate and good ammo count coupled to this planes insane ability to go cold anytime help it cope with Realshitter. Ki83 on the other hand is much slower than a Spitfire and has just 150 cannon rounds that do nothing against US aircraft which is the bread and butter of that thang
Agree Hornet is really underrated in warthunder and not played enough its a real beast if someone plays it right probably the best prop plane at its br
The Attacker (Premium and tech tree) are also one of my favorite somewhat overpowered? aircraft to use in Ground RB as well. Also amazing video as usual Pilli :)
@@friendlysnoworb6091 not at all :) My favorite quirk about the attacker is that the flaps literally can’t be ripped (i’m assuming since they’re linked to the air brakes) meaning you can be at max speed and get an insane amount of lift in exchange for losing a good bit of energy. If you’re good at flying low and using stealth belts you can catch most other pilots off guard insanely well with the speed advantage you’ll have since most players (like you) would be bring props into ground RB or be situationally unaware attack aircraft or Me-262 pilots who nosedive into the ground. Not to mention having decent 20mms (with a relatively low ammo count imo) and a pretty good bomb load, i’ve had multiple 8+ air kill and even more ground kill games in it. It’s a truly under rated aircraft in my personal experience and has pretty much been the reason i’ve unlocked most of the British air tree.
As the name suggests it's a pretty good attacker but as an actual fighter I prefer the sea meteor which is only 0.3 higher but performs better in a dogfight
The T-18B is in a pretty similar position. Its two powerful engines make it an excellent fighter, but since its a bomber it gets the bomber spawn. It has a high wing rip speed, good flaps, responsive rudders and the "holy airbrake". Using these things combined lets you win 1v3 fights with ease regularly, even against even FW-190s *ask me how i know ;)* Edit: forgot to mention the sturdy airframe and handy HMG gunner that save you in any picklely situation.
i dont like the 57mm variant that much. its good for bomber hunting or CAS but it suffers when fighting fighters unlike the regular T18b. The 57mm make the T18b way heavier, removes the ability to carry bombs and removes the "holy airbrake". The plane being heavier from the 57mm makes it feel like you are flying with a full bombload, constantly hampering your ability to propperly fight and it also makes the vertical performance kinda dookie. Not being able to carry bombs removes a free 2000rp from each battle. the T18b is normally fast enough to get to a base, bomb it and still be 10km away from the nearest fighter. On top of that if you dont get an aerial kill in a match, you get basically nothing. Unlike with the regular T18b where you have 2000rp no matter what because of the base you bombed. Lastly the "holy aibrake" being gone is such a debuff because you cant nearly adjust the speed aswell as you normally can with the airbrakes. I just think that the 57mm variant has more Cons than Pros to it but it sure fun as hell to use for ground battles/bomber hunting
Thank you for Highlighting this Hidden Beauty. Hornet is really a hidden gem in the UK Tech Tree, I always play this plane a lot in 6.0-7.0 Matches and for clearing Kill Bomber player mission. It's also one of the few aircraft in the game in it's BR that can guaranteed Interception of Ju-288 in it's BR. My only complaint is that the Hispano gun frustrated me a lot, so many times the gun fails killing the target when it's should've been dead in few burst.
Great work on the video! Your F-16 hidden mechanic video going viral helped make its way into my feed, and I've been really enjoying your content since discovering your channel. You do a superb job in editing, and sound design, which really shows how much effort you put into your videos; even the thumbnails are always of great quality. It's of particular joy to myself when I find creators in the WT community like you who do more than just make match compilations... not that there is anything wrong with that, but creators like @ZoltanSultan, @TimsVariety, and yourself, are truly content creators that should get more attention than they do. Anyways, keep up the great work! On a side note, similar to the Hornet Mk. III, the P-61C-1 in the American tech tree also is a hidden gem for prop planes in the game; at least in my personal opinion. It too shares the privilege of being classified as an Air Defense Fighter, and also has EFS similar to the Hornet Mk. III. I believe both planes received EFS within the same patch, but I could be mistaken. The P-61C-1 does have the downside of being significantly heavier than the Hornet Mk. III, which hurts its climb rate, top speed, and acceleration in comparison between the two, but it has a very similar play-style, airbrakes, and a (4x) .50cal turret on the top of the aircraft. The turret does help in countering reversals, as well as in some of the sluggishness both planes have in prolonged dogfights; where getting your cannons on target can get a bit tough. If you enjoyed the Hornet Mk. III, I highly recommend trying the P-61C-1 if you haven't already. The premium P-61A-11 shares the Air Defense Fighter role and has EFS, but for a whole -0.3br you have significantly weaker engines; making it essentially completely impractical to ever use, so much so it was removed from regular sale and can only be bought on special occasions. On a side-side note, I'd also recommend the Ta 154 A-1 (one might now be able to tell that I love twin engine prop planes...), in-part by being a player made model, its performance is superb, and handles significantly better than one might assume looking at it just on the surface level. It too has a wooden frame like the Hornet Mk. III, and similar to both the Hornet Mk. III and the P-61, it's incredibly durable. I could go into more depth... and brevity is not one of my strong suits, so I'll end it here instead of continuing this somewhat long comment. Cheers!
It's hard for words to describe how good you production is, loved every second of the video. Oh and thank you for adding (C&C Generals) music, truly nostalgic. Glad to have found your channel, truly underrated.
The air spawn is the only thing saving this plane. It doesn't even come close to the performance of P-51H's, Ta-152's, or spitfires. That one trick you use might be useful against 109K's but any plane that can reverse the turn quick enough will immediately kill you.
Most op planes by my KD: CW-21(25kd), P-38G (13KD), B-34 (11KD), Ta-154 and A2D (6.5KD), P-59 and F2G (5KD). I highly recommend playing the B-34 the way it was meant to be played.
I really like how your cinematics are relevant to the topics you speak of. Never seen another WT youtube do that. Subbed, even though I don't play anymore.
This feels like it could be used as an official war thunder vehicle guide, interesting history and comprehensive explanation of the plane, without the video being a drag to watch. Great job, man!
I fly the Do335 a lot at 5.7 and I have to say early game the Hornet is the only plane I'm scared of. I can be above everyone at the start of the game with the Hornet being the exception. And I agree about early game kills on AFK players, its actually ridiculous how many free kills you can collect with an airspawn, especially in the 288 lobbies where allied fighters usually don't have to worry about people climbing above them.
ive really been struggling with it, and honestly the flaps may be it. though in air sim it has this nasty habit of just flatspinning from a high bank turn. think ai bombers/recon planes in that circling thing they do. the hornet very much likes to just keel over and fall when trying to match said turns. its an odd one, but one i have found very endearing all the same
I think I never managed to flatspin one undamaged, just buzzing left and right until something dies. The guys flying with me in the hornets had some issues like yours. :D
I've always REALLY hated fighting this thing. It always fools you into a false sense of security because of its twin engine layout but it can out-digfight most piston engine fighters in the game, and it gets a busted airspawn which allows it to literally rush the enemy team while they're still climbing.
it's sheer vertical retention and constant turn makes it absolutely busted, but it's painful to lead your guns into people. It's the opposite of the f7f.
I do love the hornet, it is a great plane. One thing to note are the horrible stall characteristics. Many times i have gotten myself into flatspins that are only recoverable through the use of individual engine control.
This is good content, but I think you might be one of the only 2 War Thunder RU-vidrs I can think of who uses Feet/MPH/F so it makes it really hard to understand temps, speed, and altitude. I gotta crack out a calc when I watch a video!
I like how my laptop stopped randomly (it has been doing it for some time now) at 9:47 in the perfect frame where you can see how the Bf-190 K just explodes in oil
Italy: when you have an OP plane that no one grinds in a popular tree it gets left alone, when I have an "OP" (it's shit) plane you bump it up by 0.7 BR, That doesn't seem fair now does it.
Hornet was my chocie for removing airfield campers when they were a thing. I even have a video of me doing it. Carries 2x1000 and no loss of power. Just go up and dive to remove annoyances
Back in the days before the gun nerds/when Hispano was buffed. It’s was a real monster. But we all know the REAL secretly OP monster was/is the Ki-83 😨. In a fair 1 on 1 the Ki 83 won every-time!
In regards to extinguisher-equipped fighters, the SBD-3 can also get it. I know it's advertised as a dive bomber, but with the 50 cal gunpods, it's actually a great fighter, outturning a decent amount of monoplanes if you get it right (takeoff or landing flaps), and its airbrakes help massively with reversals. But if you try to climb, that's a no go, the engine doesn't have the juice to sustain it.
This plane is one of the reasons why we do not have a custom fuel loadouts . The Premium Hornet MK.I has less power, no high octane fuel and a rudder that makes the plane go into flat spins from time to time. But Gaijin has placed the clearly weaker Hornet MK. I at the same BR as the MK.III. Why ? Because the MK. I has less fuel and thus is lighter. In theory, the longer a match goes the more powerful the MK.III becomes. As Gaijin failed to make different Br. depending on which mode a plane is used in (Air only modes or CAS/"ground" Forces), I do not expect a change in this issue and people (including me) that bought the MK. I will still feel a bit ripped off.
If you want a similarly dominant aircraft, try out the Sea Vixen. I slept on that thing for ages. I am certainly not a great player but I managed nearly 200 kills before my free repairs ended, and my winrate is at 79% in it.
I gave up on it at stock grind. I might have to give it another go. As fornyour 2 negatives, hispano are my fav air cannon so that's a big up for me haha
ngl the very last fight in the outro puzzled me. whyd the guy keep flying in front of you? was he testing your shooting capabilities? the line between dogfighting incapability from the enemy and trolling is very thin
Imagine if with well get fuel slider able to lower you fuel it be one of the best with that light weight you be able run 25 min and still have one best prefomance in game
Too bad it wasn't in kilometers and meters I think more players use that measurement in the game. I am imperial system but have used the metric system since I have been playing this game back in 2012/13... But good video and most of the stuff there was a kilometers or km/h........
I try to put conversions in my videos whenever possible. I know most WT players use km/h & meters, but being a filthy American, I'm too familiar with mph and ft... (I never bothered to change distance from km to mi, oddly enough)
@@Pilicast I hear ya bro I'm American as well and when I started that's what I used for measurements but that changed after 2012 into 2013 cause everyone was squading up with said everything in the metric system so I said F@k it and changed over since EVERYONE besides us Americans uses the Metric. But it's all good do what you're comfortable with 👍
This and p51 NA are my favorite aircraft to fly. Well balanced but when you use them to their strengths they become super deadly. I prefer the hornet for its firepower and airspawn
Always funny in a hornet draging out a match while still fighting actively / aggressively because your climb rate is so high ive dragged out a match against 2 fw190 doras over 15min b&z attacking all the way
I managed to beat a D13, starting at a disadvantage too. While I think the overall manoeuvrability is less than what it was really capable of (multiple sources saying the roll rate was excellent for a heavy fighter) I’ve found its roll rate to be roughly the same at 200mph as it is at 500mph. Presume this is down to spring tabs.
Amazing video, i’ve been playing the hornet for years as my “braindead plane” it’s basically invulnerable Also, basically all British prop planes have FPE which is a nice plus
A plane I can think of that is similar to the hornet mklll is the P-38k. It has a unmatched climb rate at the br. It can turn fight with bf 109s no problem and energy traps enemy planes like no one’s business and with 1850hp each engine with wep that will last the whole match the p-38k is a monster at the br can probably give the hornet mklll a hard time in the right situation.
