Greg Pruitt (34) made a bunch of huge plays for the Browns, game-winning plays in crunch time in those years. Exciting runner and pass catcher, another in a long line of great Browns RBs.

A straight through-line from Jim Brown to Leroy Kelly to Greg Pruitt to Mike Pruitt. Those Browns were truly blessed at RB. At QB: Milt Plum to Frank Ryan to Bill Nelsen to Mike Phipps to Brian Sipe - some good quality there, but a little uneven.

Greg Pruitt never gets enough credit. When he was healthy he was electric and as good as any back in the league.

what can you say? I watched this game live. 16 year old Jet fan. Had to kick away from Pru. Don't let him touch it. Had to tip my cap, then and now. Was glad he finally got a well-earned ring.

That Cle team had an all-cast, Sipe, MP & GO, Oz, Logan, Matthews, Rucker, Dieden, Ambrose, Hall, Irons & Cockroft - the Cardiac Kids. As I pointed out in the past, Steve DeBerg once refused to be the starting QB, came off the bench in the 1Q threw for 300+(?) And won the game, after he told the press "Don't pick my brain, there's nothing there" awesome quote, great player, Mr Class everywhere he went

You mentioned Greg Pruitt’s 1983 season returning kicks for the Raiders. This included a 97-yard touchdown return in Washington. This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a Bad Beats video about the game between the Browns and Jets the next year that ended in similar fashion.

The Jets scored 24 points in the 4th quarter to tie up the game and then lost in OT. That is what I remember the most.

Pruitts run vs the Rams in 1978 was one of the greatest in NFL history. He led a comeback almost by himself vs the Broncos in 1974 with a long pass reception and a long kickoff return down 21-9 with 3 minutes left they won 23-21 in an otherwise abysmal season for the Browns. In 1973 vs Pittsburgh, he and Mike Phipps had a play for the ages you must see down 16-14 in a critical game; Phipps eluded defenders and got it off to Pruitt who juked out 7 defenders for a long gain that set up the game winning TD. I dk if Pruitt is a HOFER but he’s one heck of a great player who should be mentioned with the greats in league history. He’s earned the right to be part of that conversation

It was only a 30-yard return. But considering the field conditions (classic Great Lakes winter), and that he hadn’t returned a kickoff in forever, it was remarkable.

Speaking of Browns' kick returns ... you should cover Josh Cribbs's return with 25 seconds left in the game in Baltimore. He dragged a whole pile 7-10 yards. Then, Phil Dawson hit his upright-stanchion field goal ... which would not have been good from one foot further out.

Greg Pruitt was an All- American for the Oklahoma Sooners. I saw him play back in the '70's. OU ran the wishbone offense and Greg Pruitt racked up the yardage, 10, 20, 30 yards per carry.

I had no idea who Gregg Pruitt was until about 5 years ago when I started you tubing Browns highlight videos from the 70s. I was dumbfounded that Pruitts exploits never got more pub by NFL Films. Maybe if the Browns were a SB team or a consistent contender at that time Pruitt would’ve gotten his due

I don't get it. This game really meant nothing. Neither team made the playoffs nor were they going to regardless of the outcome of this game. It literally had zero impact on their chances or how the league shook out nor their futures.

I grew up a Steelers fan, and so I understandably hated the cheap-shot browns. But I always heard good press about their coach. It's just a shame a coach like that couldn't control and influence his players.

What about eric metcalf's heroics in that game for browns vs. steelers around '88 when he returned two punts for tds. Better yet why did noll even kick to him? That was similar to bo kicking to the rocket a second time after he returned a punt for a td for nd vs. um around the same time '88 season. And rocket got um the year before on a return td too.

8:16-8:18 Corny camera work. Also used on goal kicks in soccer telecasts. Bizarre that no one really thought about kicking away from the returner to blunt momentum until this millennium. Also never, ever kick the ball directly to a returner on the dead run.
