Idea: The Lost Cause Policy- If all players successfully vote the imposter at the halfway point, they will either receive an extra 30 minutes or an item to help them (Ex: A compass pointing to an ancient city). If the imposter is not guess and has not been sniffed at the halfway point, they can choose one ability to protect or reduce the cooldown for it.

Pro tip: get elytra, riptide trident, fireworks, ender chest and shulker boxes. Have 2-3 shulker boxes with loot in EC, have 4-5 ECs spread in inventory. Have riptide trident out of shulker in EC, with fireworks. Mobility is the key. So get as much as you can. Also, might be a good idea to always send 2-3 people to grind end cities and village trades. Step up the game guys, it's already 10+ hours in the same world, you have skill, why are you still in mud crawling, when you can fly high?

The issue is that you were searching too close to oceans. Ancient cities spawn away from oceans, usually far out in the middle of land and have specific mountain biomes they spawn under
