You can actually use the Compressor as the individual software for transferring the format! Meta data adjustment is also available in the work flow!

6:10 you dont have to render the timeline, you can select the clips in the viewfinder and render as many as you want at the same time. If you want to do any changes to the individuell clips before rendering just create new compound clips and then render all of those at the same time

You can export individual clips in final cut by making a collection sequence, then go to file, share, export individual clips and each will be exported individually. Learned that the hard way too lol.

The more I rent this thing, the more I'm thinking of ditching my URSA G2 and grabing it. Such a weird and incredible tool. The transmission system is lights ahead of its time.

Brand new Ursa is like 4 grand this beast is setting you back 13 grand. Completely different setup. I’m disappointed on the 3 codecs you recording for such a high price point

it really would love to see prores lt on that it is amazingly small and fast to edit... for me the perfect middleground between prores hq / raw and h264

Good to see a comparison vid. I love my 4D but can't see myself upgrading to the 8K. The thing I want most is the better handling of rolling shutter (when not in DRE mode) on the 8k, but it's not worth the money or the hassle of ProRes Raw. Thanks for the content ✌️

While the 8K is...ALOT at $12k+, the 6K model ($6750) is fairly priced, considering the 6K Pro (though not FF, it does have built in ND, but not 9 stops), cheaper Lidar, Ronin RS3 Pro Combo (even though there's no Z-axis), and handles would cost about $4,830 (and that's assuming you think the monitor is good enough on the 6k Pro)

One thing I think a lot of people (including myself) miss when comparing the 6K and 8K Ronin models is the 8K comes with the 1TB SSD and SSD mount (about $1k value) and the 17-28 lens ($1,300). I originally thought that $5-6K difference was all the sensor hah. But yes a fully rigged 6K Pro vs 6K Ronin is about $2K off. Both very good setups!

⁠@@initialfocusalso if you buy the 8k module separately it doesn’t come with the ProRes raw license. That’s another big cost factor. I have a 6k but switching to just the 8k head will end up costing so much (sensor + license), and that will leave the 6k sensor completely useless. No one will be able to sell it because dji don’t sell the body, and that sucks.

Great video and very very good looking footage. Are the 6K and 8k models the same what it comes to features besides the 6k vs 8k sensor?

Thanks! Glad you like the footage! 😬 and correct. Same exact body and features. Just resolutions, frame rates and ISO differ between the sensors.

Yes, you can set at 8K your camera, move freely for your city, and then crop in :)

I only have a few lenses dedicated for the 4D. The DJI 17-28mm, Sirui 35mm Anamorphic (they make great compact anamorphic for the 4D) and a Viltrox 85mm via Sony mount. I’ve been eyeing a lot of the smaller cheaper Sony glass cuz it seems lightweight enough for the gimbal to operate and also look on DJI’s list of supported lenses.

It has been driving me crazy for MONTHS! As soon as Josh was like “bro. You don’t calibrate that lens?” I’m like “sure I don’t need to but what can it hurt?” Apparently a lot! 😂

Really hate that DJI is cheaping out on the ProRes flavors as it is all coming down to them not willing to pay the fees. Would have loved ProRes 4444 (12bit) as this is the standard pretty much. Nobody really uses ProRes RAW as far as I know because ATOMOS is preventing compatibility with Davinci and probably will for the unforeseeable future.

At this point the best dynamic range of an actual tested Red camera is the V-RAPTOR 8K VV with 13.7 stops at a S/N ratio of 2 and 15.1 stops at a S/N ratio of 1. Given the Alexa 35 is currently the only camera that has officially tested with a dynamic range over 16 stops (16.3 stops) at a S/N ratio of 1 and 15.1 stops at a S/N ratio of 2, it's highly unlikely the Komodo-X has more than 14 stops at a S/N ratio of 1 and 13 stops at a S/N ratio of 2 roughly in line with the original Komodo. Red is notorious for over claiming the DR of their cameras, even if they do preform very well.

I received my 8K ronin here in the UK a few days ago with the 17-28mm lens which comes in the combo - I won't calibrate it!!! - still not opened it lol will have a play with it at Christmas - been busy with my new Spectrum Next retro computer and the Atari Gamestation Pro and the Pocket 3 !!! so not had time to play with the new 8k Ronin 4D. I'm not into videography so 4D will be something to play with as I have no use cases lol

@@initialfocus errrrmmmm I do alright :-) my problem is I watch too many influencers!!! and love new gadgets - I have a DJI M300 drone which I have flow only a few times. Have an Sony A1 (8k) used a handful of times for photos only - A7SIII and A7RIV from launch not used !!! I bought the DJI mini 4 pro from launch - not flown it at all - I should see a doctor lol but yes at end of day I'm prepared I guess should I need to film something! New Years resolution to use my gadgets!

How can you change from 6k to 8k and have it cost a little less in price? Would DJI accept the 6k camera back and lower the price of the 8k? I want to say if it were possible for DJI to accept my 6k sensor or maybe there could be some way to negotiate to upgrade from 6k to 8k

I hope I understand your question right, you can purchase the 8K gimbal head from DJI and just swap your 6K sensor so you don’t have to buy a whole new $13K camera setup if that makes sense.

My old 6K rig was 15-17lbs lol this is lightweight. I’ll shoot a 10 hour wedding with my 6K Pro + big cine lens strapped to my side and this in my hand all day no problem. Saves me the gym membership lol

Can an external SSD hard drive be used as storage or does it only accept an SD card?

The default body of the 6K/8K has a CF Express type B slot. On the 6K you can buy the ProSSD module and use their proprietary SSD drive to access the best resolution/framerate options. You can connect an external SSD to the usb c port but I believe it won’t do the highest frame rate options. Haven’t tested it on the 8K.
