I find my approach shots are deadly, but if i had better drives i would eliminate the need for approach shots alltogether. Funny because whats an approach shot but a short drive without the pressure. I think my main issue is pressure related.

Never end your practice without making all of your putts consecutive from challenging distance(s). 5-8 putters or so. Can keep you out there getting frustrated for an extra hour but makes for better pressure putt practice.

Aiming through basket, or at the chains on the back side, is really helpful in competitive situations. Since, for me at least, nerves can make me putt more timidly and draw front iron. A guy gave me that tip mid tourny and it actually really helped.

I think the purpose of this advice is to keep the disc level through the putt. Probably so that if you release a little early or a little late you don't have a significant difference in disc angle, so it still goes straight toward the target. That's just my guess though. He's also probably imagining a specific height where the "oven" is that the "pizza" needs to be put. This advice feels pretty specific to how Heimburg throws, rather than a general putting tip.

I had a practice basket that was REALLY loud and ringy, so I wrapped the portion of the pole behind the chains with clear self-fusing silicone tape. It didn't change the look or performance of the basket but it did drastically cut down on the volume. I'm sure my neighbors appreciated it.

The one tip that helped me with edge of circle and circle two putts was what was called Pro power, I can't remember who labeled it that, but the ultimate premise is the strength and speed you putt at if you miss should be 10 to 15 ft past the basket. This was very helpful for me especially since most my missed putts were hitting the cage or lower.

Great video as always! The two that resonated with me that I need to try is the two seconds rule, I love consistent and repeatable things and I think that will help with my putting stroke, and the putting through the basket. A solid 75+% of my inside the circle putts are on-line but short. I think what I'm going to try is focusing on a chain link that is on the far side of the basket and see if that helps me correct the distance in my head.

Be mindful of the breath. The best "accuracy" athletes in the world have a strong connection to the breath. Disc Golf is all about accuracy. Something to keep in mind, breath is the regulator for emotion and heart rate. Developing a strong connection to it will change your game and quite literally your life. For more info I like a book called "The Warrior's Breath". Also, nice choice in putters. I prefer a Madrone myself but I won't hold it against you.

The best way I feel to control your putter have equal pressure through all fingers I’m hitting 30’s 8/10 as average but I’ve only been playing for a year truly I’ve only just played 5 times total this year (at courses) I’m actually now starting on my left hand I’m seeing if I can do the same drills and I’m improving by triple what I thought with my left arm put!!! It feels great to put them in every time so that’s what I finish on every time is the most comfortable last rep of puts. All I can ask for is everyone have fun putting while practicing, you can even make it a game but one you really want to win!! I love this disc golf community and it’ll grow even stronger with everyone of you!!!

The best tip in discgolf I ever got was to put more of the fleshy part of my hand near my thumb on top of the disc. When I first started all of my discs had a tendency to come out nose up. I worked on everything from run up to reach back and nothing changed. I learned this and it completely changed the game for me. Implemented it into my putting as well and I can now hit puts 40+ feet out. Also went from a max distance of 200 ish feet to 300+ instantly.

Be proficient in staggered and straddle putting. Straddle putting is more effective one hilly courses. Especially for balance or when the basket is above or below you. The handshake is probably the most important "technique" I heard here. I've found that follow through is everything. The disc will always go right where you throw it. Finish the throw pointing at the basket, and that's where the disc is going to go. Sounds obvious, I know, but most of my misses from makeable range are because I failed to follow through properly.

Thing that helped me was focusing on the power of the legs and the push off the ground doing more and more to your furthest out point when putting. This was when in the whole of redoing my putt from something that did not work to Stagger in 2014 to what I have used since 2017 and found this last bit in of info in 2017 when using the back leg to push off the ground in 2016 I found the tip of more and more back leg kick to help. I got the Idea from Ricky Wysocki though I use more of a spinning push putt then a straight push putt. The other was using the pole edge on the right or left depending on throwing arm to use for focus on when aiming.

Scott Stokely has a great tip. Your entire putting stroke should be on a straight line to the target point. That way if you release a little early or a little late your disc will still fly on line to the basket. You'll find yourself missing high or low, but almost never left or right assuming you've adjusted for wind and fade.

When I straddle putt I use my off arm instead of my back leg to counter the throwing motion. Basically I end up looking like a T. It helps me rotate my shoulders behind the putt. I do have to make sure my non-throwing shoulder is not cheating though so I always push it a little forward right before I aim. Then I aim (2-3 seconds is about right) and switch my shoulders while shaking hands with the top right chain on the basket.

This isn’t an underrated tip, but the mental part of putting is huge. Most of the putts I miss are because I’m nervous about missing it. Telling yourself you can make it and you are in fact going to make it helps tremendously. It can be really hard to do though.

Legit, I do all of these. Except for the 🍕 😂 but I also do a more exaggerated version of what you're doing by locking my left, (non throwing hand) to my hip. That keeps me balanced and dialed in better than the back leg kick out. As that's not really needed until 50 feet out.

For me the biggest thing is mentality. When I walk up to a putt, instead of thinking "I Need to make this" or "what if I miss this easy putt?" I just think, "I Can make this", and I think of all the putts that I've made in my life and just visualize it going in. It doesn't always work, but I'm missing by inches instead of feet. Honestly, outside of twenty feet I'm not beating myself up about missed putts, as long as I get metal and don't get a bad roll. It's mostly mental, keep that positive attitude.

Nikko Locastro always follows the 2-second rule, doesn't he? ;-)
@purplej12
@purplej12 2 года назад
Yo! I just figured out the 2 second technique myself. Not exactly the two second part, but my tech is to 100% stare at the ground like an extremely shy person, maybe glancing up really quickly at the basket, but the focus is to make sure my grip is really solid. I shake it around to make sure it isn't moving anywhere on accident. Then I look up at the basket and throw it. Not "right away" but basically right away. So maybe I'm at more like a second and a half. The reason I started thinking to do that is because I remembered about the different forms of memory. Essentially there is the nearly "instant" memory that is very quickly forgotten, which is the idea behind a word flashing on a screen for subliminal messaging. That is technically still memory. I have ADHD, so my working memory (the ability to juggle info like RAM for a computer) is crap. On one hand, I can remember things really well if my brain decides that it is interesting enough, but if it doesn't decide, then I have a much harder time performing tasks that are reliant on working memory. Another issue with ADHD is that I have a harder time with my prefrontal cortex telling the rest of my brain what to do. So I can daydream like crazy, but that doesn't mean that I go out and do the task. (Meds are seriously such a difference maker in this area. I got diagnosed as an adult and I've done so much more with myself since then) So staring at a basket and sinking the putt might be important, but it isn't at all interesting. So I essentially make it a challenge for my brain by giving it a shorter time to look at it and I think it also helps because a shorter timeframe means that I have less time to consciously think about it and try to control what I do. Not everyone has ADHD, but we all have a similar brain. So I run into this problem enough to be more aware of it, but we all have limits to our attention, our interest, working memory, etc. So my theory is that this technique really helps to let your putting be more "instinctual"

Have not heard people talk about this, but this is a theory of mine that seems to work for me. For spin putt, if you miss right or have trouble reaching the basket on longer putts, don't move the arm too fast and make sure you snap out the disc with your wrist before the arm stops moving. If the arm gets fully extended, a late snap might pull to the right and won't give nearly as much power to the disc. (Then there's obviously force you can get from your legs too)

All of these clicked in some way, but I do have a really good tip for you. While preheating your oven, place a tray in the oven. Once heated, place your frozen pizza on a cooking paper, take the tray out and pull the pizza to the tray with the paper. Let it sit in the oven like normally and once ready take the tray out and leave it on the countertop for a couple minutes before cutting it. You get the best crust you've tasted on a frozen pizza.

For me shaking hands with the basket doesnt work at all since I tend to focus too much on kind of releasing the disc and then i almost everytime yank it to the right or my power is too loose and leave it too short and to the left. That leg kicking same time as release cut me atleast couple strokes on putting green today and it also somehow made me to release bit lower since my miss is usually on the top band. Tip that has helped me is that you draw an imagenary line from yourself to the basket (or that one chain link) and i pull my disc back to that line and push it straight in that line. That helped me to cut misses to only top and low, not so much on left/right anymore. Great video and tips!

I cut a pool floatie down the middle and taped it to the middle pole for a silent basket. Minimal bounce outs.

What has helped me is making sure the weight transfer is there. I've noticed a delay of maybe 1/2 second between the sound of my rear foot kicking and the sound of the putter leaving my hand

My brother's told me from day one to shake hands with the basket when putting great tip

Something that helped me in circle one was to hold the putter normal except on the bottom of the putter just use finger tips and barely flick the fingers on release. It zooms straight.

My suggestion would be to give yourself different looks; Putt from a knee or with an elevated basket.

I'm new to the game and one thing that helps me when putting, is I imagine that the basket is huge, like ten foot wide.

I love your videos and I follow on my personal and business accounts. Where are you from because Im starting my own disc golf channel and i love the cinematic look your videos have. I would love to play a round with you and even help you shoot and learn a few things especially considering ill be shooting alot of the stuff just by myself.

what has helped me the most are three things. 1. Not trying to practice long putts but shorter 5 to 7 meters. That gives me a solid foundation for putting and my longer puts have been going in more aswell. 2. having your back leg and hand move at the same time thing. Just like with a drive, if you are unbalanced during the throw you will fail to do it correctly. 3. All the motion from pull back to the release should be inline with the basket. Any deviation from that will make you more likely to pull the disc to either side of the basket.

Best tip I ever heard. It’s a pull putt, not a push putt. Its a pulling motion to the basket…don’t push it there, pull it.

I am glad that last one works for you. For most that would be horrible advice, especially if your miss is the too short.

So just as expected - the best tip you could get is to practice the same routine with the same timing every single time and you'll be able to make more putts. What you're focusing on isn't very important as long as you do the exact same thing every time. If your timing varies, focus on something that makes your timing equal every time. Is your aim varies find something that fixes your aim every time. If your speed varies focus on something that fixes your speed every time. If your balance varies and is sometimes off focus on something that fixes your balance. When every major parameter is fixed you can focus on the feel in your hand and make adaptations to suit the current circumstances.

As a conclusion: if that last tip made the biggest difference for you perhaps you have most of the others parameters locked in while your balance was your biggest problem. You could go completely Michael Phelps or Stefan Holm with these things, and practice an exact routine in absurdum until you don't even have to aim.

I always use the finger on the lip of the disc as a way to 'point' at the basket and helps me aim better. Probably similar to the hand shake.

Switching from having my index finger inside the rim to resting it on the outside like Paul does helped me clean up my release a whole lot.
@sgouletas1

if you're putting from 27 ft plus out is a good chance you're actually sending the disc in a direction that initially starts out over the basket and that point can be a better AimPoint than a specific chain link and as you get further out it's important to know how high over the basket you need to aim. obviously if you have a super powerful putt and you can always hit the chain link without your disc dropping it's another story. I'm 62 years old and was 7th in the world this year so I don't put his heart as those youngsters.
