Afghanistan is often called the graveyard of empires, as though it's some inherent property of the land. I think Suri's story proves the property is not of the land, but of the people.

@Who Cares? that’s not entirely true. Their lands were never fully under control and were considered wild lands, or back country. Persians and turko-mongols merely secured trade routes through the passes that mark through their territory into India. They never actually controlled the tribes. Further, evens the control of the caravan routes were tasked to local mercenaries that were paid by persain or Turks. Many so called Turkic dynasties native to the region were have been culturally appropriated to Turks, when they were in fact afghans, such as the Khalaj. Only the mongols controlled some regions and that was after they killed every man, woman and child

I've studied and loved history my whole life, but being born and raised in the u.k it's had a very euro/ America's centric approach for me, interest led me to study East Asia but as for the subcontinent and middle Eastern history, whilst I wouldn't call myself ignorant of it my knowledge is sadly lacking, all this as a roundabout way of saying thank you for providing a seemingly fair and unbiased window into an area of history sadly overlooked by a lot of the world but equally rich and as interesting bas anything else I know of. @@imaad2042 brother, for example look at any Muslim wedding in Bangladesh or Kerala or Pakistan, and compare that with those in Iran, there's an Indian Aesthetic to our Weddings. that's just one example, even in mosque architecture, there's massive Persian influence which is beautiful but there's also many Subcontinent influences, for example the beautiful Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, you will notice a Floral design on top of the Domes, that's an Subcontinent motif, that does not exist in Persian or Ottoman mosques. These are only a few examples. Some people want to think acting Persian or Arab means you are more Muslim, I want to say that's misguided. @MerkhVision
@MerkhVision 2 года назад
No. Afghanistan has always been the homeland of the Pashtuns and that can be traced back over 1000 years. It also used to be larger. The southern part of the Pashtun homeland was absorbed into British India in the 1890’s and then that land was included in Pakistan when the British created it in the 1940’s. So the Pashtuns in that region became Pakistani citizens by coincidence. Later on in the 1980’s many Afghans fled to Pakistan to escape the Soviet invasion and many of them remain there as the wars have been ongoing since then. Btw the term is just “Afghan,” not “Afghanistani” lol.
