Started buying books again, I collected silver surfer when I was younger cause my step dad is a big collector. I’m 25 now and have my own money so I’ve started buying again, just bought all of Son of Kal El so I can catch up and follow it, considering doing the same with X-Men. Also might try and get my Silver Surfer finished but it’s kinda expensive now, those 1987 books are more expensive than I thought they’d be
LOVE THIS LIST!! Maybe my favorite list you have done Tom! Heard all about the dentist only recently, but then too I didn’t know much about pedigrees until the last year or so.
I really feel uncomfortable having some of my books discussed in this video......just kidding! With all the allegations of market manipulation against Heritage, I'm a bit concerned about the legitimacy of some of their notable sales such as that unbelievable FF #1 for $1.5 million.
Me as well. I am extremely suspicious of any high sales coming out of Heritage. These million dollar books are books that I will never own and the prices don't matter to me in that sense. But the integrity of the hobby at the highest level is at stake. It is a real issue.
Great channel Tom! I like all the different topics you touch on here. From episodes like this to talking about exciting new titles, publishers, and different methods of supporting creators. Had to order my first mystery call box and I really enjoyed it. All the variants were truly beautiful. The John Carter of Mars cover really pops!
Big money is changing our beloved hobby and I’m not really liking it knowing most of these grails are unreachable. But with the volitility of the stock and bond market, and with the government suppressing the price of precious metals, collectibles appear to be “safe”. So we’re seeing people who treat our books as another asset making the already low supply even more constrained driving demand which as eco 101 tells us drives prices upward.
Wow anyway I love listening to you guys this is Bob in Connecticut. Hey let’s face it normal people cannot buy these kind of books even a lot of the modern books are not obtainable unless you are very wealthy because of the rising market. I was talking to Comic Link and I just mentioned the four of my comic books that they would drive over to me in Connecticut if I was willing to sell any of those. Superman 2 5.0 moderate professional restoration pieces added no trimming they told me it’s somewhere in the six-figure range. Amazing fantasy 15 6.0 . Batman 1 5.0 restored. Tales of suspense 39 8.5. These are my four best books that I have left. I paid $12,500 for the Superman. I paid $4000 for the amazing fantasy. I paid $10,500 for the Batman. And I paid $5300 for the Iron Man.
@@goldenageguru thanks but there was a misprint I have a superman 1 5.0 Moderate professional restoration no trimming Comic Link told me it’s somewhere in the six-figure range and I did pay $12,500 that was about 20 years ago.
Pretty easy to set a million $ price level if you sell a book to yourself through your own auction house, if I owned a 9.6 and a 9.2 FF#1 and I sold the 9.2 to myself or a "friend" for 1.5 mil, then that makes my 9.6 that much more valuable now, right?
Yes, especially when the grading company works directly with the auction house and takes a higher amount of money if they 'upgrade' your comic after a 2nd review.
@@Terbmagic4 when transparency on buyer and seller relations is made available like the SEC oversight of the stock market I'll put more faith in these "record" sales in the millions of dollars but when a company like heritage has to settle out of court due to law suits claiming misconduct and shill bidding sales like a 9.2 silver age book selling for over a million with multiple books in multiple higher grade tiers will be sus
