For anyone who's interested, the Chinese characters above 'T. Foujita' read: 「於巴里\藤田」. Literally: 'In Paris, Fujita,' meaning 'Painted by Fujita in Paris'.

Certainly know how to create a story for a TV programme the American people. Sitting in in coffee shop nonchalantly watching the AR take place when - out of nowhere - his wifey suggests taking "That weird painting they have at home in" .... His wife and he knew all along that they'd bring the painting and waited until the crowd had died down to bring it for an estimation knowing fine well who it was by and what he represented. His bloody signature is there in full view - not as if it were a squiggle either, it's in print ! So he got his free evaluation and probably sold the picture shortly afterwards.

How horrible to have had it stolen. I wonder if they had any idea of what they may have had. Though the bulk of my most cherished items, from little trinkets to unique books are likely to have very little value except sentimentality wise & so then only to me. The memories they hold & the feelings they invoke make them extremely meaningful if only to myself & if they were to be financially inconsequential it wouldn't change the fact that to me they would be priceless.
@TheFiown
@TheFiown 11 месяцев назад
@@evryhndlestakn In 2006 I packed up, put everything I kept into storage and moved to Brazil where my stuff would join me later. Unfortunately Brazil didn't work out, too corrupt and my stuff stayed in storage even after I returned to France as I had been ruined and could only keep up the storage bills with difficulty. The cost of these five units was huge over 12 years and people kept saying 'let it go' and 'get rid of them' but I didn't. Turned out that between damp damage, breakage and theft I lost a lot but I did manage to save what for me was my past, family things, my treasures and they didn't have a 'value' except to me. Most people don't get it, I feel quite sad for them and things hold memories.

Well, I saw one collector who brought four antique carved Rhino horns that were worth $2million on one episode of antique road show. I think the collector had paid $5000 collecting them over the years

Unfortunately they didn't sell due to the ban on rhino horn

@@kyleanuar9090 They don’t do buying and selling on Antique Road Show. Just value appraisals. You might be thinking of Pawn Stars does America

Does anyone else feel nervous for the people, when they find out something is valuable, that after the cameras are off, someone is going to mug them in the carpark? I wonder if the show offers security?

I know for sure that in one program they had security on set - called clearly between identification and filming. Can’t remember what it was but it was something insanely valuable like baseball cards or something!

The formerly English auction houses bled England dry of all of its best and worst art, so there are only minor pieces like this left. That is why Fake or Fortune is mostly fake, and rarely fortune. Plus The English have always been at the derrière garde when it comes to the visual arts.

$137K USD accounting for inflation, not accounting for if the value has changed since 1990.

You could buy a nice house for £50,000 in 1990.
