Almost every Avatar fan in the world believes that Mai is the mother of Firelord Izumi. It was never properly clarified sadly until this video. Thumbnail Credit: www.deviantart... #avatar #avatarthelastairbender
I know my boy zuko could not resist to love his woman mai and mai could not resist her love for zuko they are perfect for each other keeping the fire nation legacy lives on 🔥🔥🔥
@@kyfa4966 What I wasn't clear enough when I said "upcoming" movie about the royal family that's to be expected in 2025? Essentially concluding the Smoke and Shadow story.
I heard a lot of theories who is izumis mother (Jin, Suki, Ty Lee for example ) but we have to remember that Zuko is the firelord and his position doesn't allow him to merry just everyone. Mai is from fire nations aristocracy so she's a proper wive for a firelord. Ty Lee has the same background so she would be the only known alternative to Mai. But to just merry a peasant girl from the earth kingdom would be seen at least as scandalous in the fire nation. Even in modern monarchies we can see how much trouble happens when a royal merries a common woman for example when prince Harry merried Meghan or his grand grand uncle king Edward VIII who had to lay down the crown for merrying a common woman from the US.
We kinda saw the opposite tho. Zuko's mother was pretty much a nobody except for her connection with roku. She was a comedian from a far away province of the fire nation, and ozai married her anyways. And her ties with roku were pretty much a secret, so as far as the general population, and probably azulon too, knew the fire prince married a nobody. Now, that's not to say marrying fire nztion aristocracy wouldn't be better seen but it's not mandatory. Now for jin, we haven't seen her since season 3, and people can change quite a lot in a few years. So it's not impossible for her to have climbed the ranks, possibly with iroh's help, and marrying her would be a sign of unity between the nations
@@docomega7862 Ursas family was still nobility. Low nobility but still nobility. Just look at our past. There where many landless knights who despite living in poverty where part of the aristocracy and on the other side there where many wealthy commoners who where not part of the aristocracy despite their wealth and political power. The aristocrats, even the poor ones often looked down to them and didn't seen them as equals. So Ursa as low aristocrat was the perfect bride for Ozai because her family wasn't powerful enough to cause trouble for Iroh but they still where nobles so Ozai couldn't officially be mad at his father for merrying him down.
@@docomega7862Bro it isn't just ordinary connection. Ursa is granddaughter of Roku,(Roku and Sozin are chilhood friends) it would make sense that Azulon wants Ozai to marry Ursa (by force*for the bloodline)
@@heymanbatman I know what the connection is. But barely anyone knew about it in the fire nation. Even zuko, her son didn't know. For almost all the fire nation, she's just a normal citizen from the provinces
@@docomega7862 Sozin most likely left a standing order that mrs roku and her progeny be kept under super clandestine surveillance until such a time either gender emerge eligible for marriage be married post haste into the fire court royal family.
Also, Zuko is a monarch, and most monarchs generally marry people of nobility, and Mai is of a relatively financially well-off family, so it makes perfect sense for them to marry for political reasons.
Zuko: stressed from running a war torn nation full of radical dissidents. Wants to see his one surviving parent every once in a while Mai: son of a bitch. Im breaking up.. you're not the man I thought you'd be That other guy: spies for said diddidents who want to put Hitler back in power Mai: well. Nobodies perfect
Zuko likely ended up with Mai and made peace with Jin similarly to how he did with those such as “The Gaang” including Katara as in this upcoming animated film Azula might be redeemed.
first look at izumi and i had no doubt mai is her mother seriously, that girl confronted Azula for him. in the avatar realm that means fate worth than death. and to constantly brake up its just their thing. mai is depressed and Zuko is too aggressive, but they love each other
I know the past is the past, but I wished Zuko's daughter name was Honora instead of Izumi, since Zuko's story arc was about regaining his honor. I know it's not much of an Asian name, but hey, Azula's name is kind of Tagalog/Spanish word for "Azul" meaning "Blue", since Azula literally controls blue fire in her firebending abilities.
Late comment but I think it sounds nice as well as can pass off as a Japanese name (majority of Fire Nation inspirations are from pre-Meji Era Japan). Honora also sounds close to honoo (炎 pronounced “ho-no-o”) which means flame.
@@falconeshield True that. Honestly, and I might be going off topic here, but storywise from the Legend of Korra series, Asami should've been ending up with General Iroh II, not only their romantic relationship would be dynamic, but Iroh II, and probably the Fire Nation too, can somehow save Asami's company from plummeting down to bankruptcy.
@@jmalfonso7bro what?? In Book 1, General Iroh II is literally in his late 30’s while Asami is 17-19.. literally not every character has to be shipped together especially those with such massive age gaps like that
If every fan of atla got what they wanted by having the opportunity to involve in making these comics. The original creators, even us too would be frustrated enough to stick to the original show's plots. So I'll say I hate how all these second class creators with the opportunity they got in the comics, messed the show up a lot.
I like to pretend that the original series is the only canon, both the comics and the legend of Korra are nothing but nonsence storytelling and fan service. They ruin the spirits, the way we know bending, the avatar cicle, etc. The only kinda respectable thing was avatar Wang story
All this time I thought Mai and Zuko got married LOL... I hope they clear it on the upcoming movie since it's focused more on the adult versions of them..
@@User-dyn check out the comic book “The Promise”, they have a lot of chemistry there. I think that this was added for a reason, it should play a role.
You'd think that they would outright confirm her to be the mother since the evidence is stacked in support of it. Maybe they're just leaving it open ended in case they change their mind.
Hmm… I don’t know all of this is interesting, but I don’t think it’s enough to definitively prove it. It definitely makes it more likely but I don’t think it’s quite enough to prove it.
Mai and Zuko were meant to be together just like Sokka and Suki were also meant to be together. It just feels right. I know that I'm not the writer nor producer of the show. However, I can express my opinion on it.
I don’t know why the creators did Sokka dirts? They likely broke up Sokka and Suki, completely forgot about the kiyoshi warriors, for no reason.. Sokka could have led a happy marriage, but now there are hints that he was alone and was possibly killed by Zaheer…
@@jameshanlon5689 Yeah. I didn't like how they turned the stories of ATLA characters in comics or TLOK. I liked the ending of ATLA. And, about the whereabouts of Zuko's mother, they should have made extra episodes for it rather than releasing it in comics.
Bruh... Izumi's chin is nearly identical to a water tribe member as well as Jeong Jeong the deserter's chin and King Bumi's. That dont mean they are closely related. It's simply just the way people drew characters in Avatar.
@TheMrPeteChannel Pli also has a knife point chin, as well as Suki, and Asami, and Ming Huang, and Chin the Conqueror, and Avatar Kyoshi. Just look at Avatar Kyoshi's chin in this picture here, its clearly a knife point chin: static1.colliderimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Kyoshi.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=480&dpr=1.5 By this logic, im willing to say that Chin the Conqueror is Izumi's actual father, and Avatar Kyoshi is her legitimate mother.
I always assumed that Mai was her mother when I watched Korra and I had no idea that her and Zuko broke up in the comics and I wish I didn’t know because I was really disappointed when I find out that they broke up in the comics because i thought after the show original they got married and lived happily ever after and the finale of the original show me made believe that was the case and I really like them together and when I heard that the head writer say they get together eventually I was glad and Izumi really looks like Mai and i know there’s a chance that I’m wrong and Mai isn’t the mother and I’m blind as a bat but i hope gets confirmed 100% that Mai is the mother
People poo poo that pairing. But people don't realize that romance for teenagers both current and former is extremely complicated and awkward. Its fine seeing a pair that isn't almost picture perfect like Aang and katara.
@@undertaker9991 True they do and it’s because Mai and Zukos relationship isn’t like a fairytale it’s realistic and it isn’t sunshine and rainbows it has it’s ups and downs just like any other couple and people don’t like that and they call it toxic because they want fantasy
The only thing that stops me from believing that Mei is Izumi's mother is that writers genuinely don't want to confirm that. Mei/Zuko is a very popular ship, most of the fans want this yet something still stops writers from confirming that
It's obvious that Mai is her mother. And I'm upset about this fact. Not because I ship Zuko with anyone (no one, to be honest), but because I never really liked her or their relationship. This never seemed pleasant to me, much less sincere.
I know this sounds dark but I wouldn't be surprised it was finally revealed Mai died or left Zuko or got banished because it seems every habit that all the Fire Lords and every member of the royal family lose their spouse somehow and they're to back to being single raising the children on their own. Yes, this includes Izumi's husband too. Wonder why that is?
New ozai society is just a stupid idea: 1. it sounds stupid and completely ruins the secret of the "hidden" organization 2. It makes no sense since ozai is useless. God this comics are awful (not all) (just my opinion though)
I love the comics I think they are fun but I agree the writing isn't that great sometimes. It's kind of crazy that if you ignore the comics it's basically confirmed it's Mai because one of the final scenes is them together.
Show: Aang, "I don't want to kill Ozai. Let's try glue bending & baby pitchers." Comics: Zuko, "If I become like my father you must kill me Aang!" Aang: " Sure. " The comics are not just poorly written, they're just plain stupid.
I just...can they just confirm Mai is her mom? I mean who else would Izumi's mom, Jin? - i mean they were cute but i think its just a kid love but come on. Zuko and Mai wre the classic moody teen love and that just fits. LET MY MAN ZUKO just have this one thing, just this one thing. Let him end up with his childhood love.
Ship wars and ship speculations are one of the things that keep fandoms active for years. Revealing too much too soon is like shooting themselves in a foot.
We have *definitive* proof *Lists a long list of circumstantial evidence and head cannon.* I also want to believe mate, but don't go using the word definitive like that.
why did you heart this when this person never actually WATCHED THE VIDEO! and i know you didnt because you would know that HE MENTIONS THIS EXACT issue IN THE VIDEO
I think that the fact that some people didn't read the comics, and obviously it is not expected from people to read it, it may end for some people the show exactly at the last episode of season 3 of ATLAB. And since Mai and Zuko were together at that time, shows how they are meant to come back together regardless of what's going to occur at the comics. Because let's face it, even Zuko's mom story arc is not a vital component to the story, since it doesn't change anything that already exists by the time the show end. That includes other details like Toph's academy, since TLOK obviously show the legacy that Toph left behind as a mentor.
If Izumi was half earth nation wouldn’t they have mentioned that in the show? Since that’s what republic city is all about? They had a whole thing about it in the comic about two nations dating and creating the new city but she only cared about the fire nation staying out of the war and so it seemed more like both her parents are fire nation. She also doesn’t have any resemblance to Jin so that wouldn’t make sense.
It is more likely that this is the case, in any case we even met Zuko's grandson but there is no clue about Sokka's children or grandchildren, of the avatar team he and Suki would be the ones who we do not know what happened to they. Regardless of how a relationship was at the time, that does not mean that it will last until old age, not everyone experiences it like Aang and Katara, destiny is uncertain, but since Katara he doesn't mention anything other than Sokka's death and nothing else, Tenzin or Bumi don't talk about "cousins", so Sokka can be the father of Toph's second daughter or he simply did not have children and perhaps never seriously bonded with anyone.
@@shirazsharivar8536men don't like anything women do, when women take the lead is an issue when they don't it's an issue 😂 plus it's fiction so it doesn't apply
Here,s a theory i,d like to see: who is the father of General iroh from legend of korra? Izumi,s husband. Seriously, this is a topic that needs to be discussed. If izumi is the only known female fire lord, than how would finding a husband work? Would it be done similar to how Ozai and ursa got married where Zuko selected someone for her, or would it be like Mai and zuko,s relationship where they naturally grew a bond? Personally, i,d like it if was the 2nd option.
Gonna be real with everyone....if Mai basically gave up her life to save zuko from the prison escape equals her not ending up with him....ill be pissed.
If I want to be honest, none of Gaang's children resemlance their parents that much in Korra, so her pointy, long face is not really a confirmation of Mai being Izumi's mother. For example the Beifong sisters looks nothing like Toph, Tenzin looks nothing like adult Aang, and Kya looks nothing like Katara... God, even Baatar Jr. looks more like adult Sokka.
i highly hope that it is Mai, because based on the comic, i remember that Mai mentioned to Ty Lee when they were hanging out that Kei Lo wasn't her type (based when she said that patsies arent her type) but then, when Kei Lo arrived, Mai suddenly calls him "babe" in which made Ty Lee surprised and when Kei Lo had left it was revealed that all of it was an act and Mai also added that she was just using Kei Lo to get information about her father. But later on Kei Lo confessed that he really likes her and there was one moment where both of em kissed, only to be distracted by Tom Tom getting kidnapped.
at this point i actually started to think that Mai maybe has developed some feeling towards Kei Lo because i remember that Kei Lo stated that he really do likes her during Zuko's family return from Hira'a, and then during the whole part 3 of the story, mai was shown to be very flirtitious with Kei Lo only for them to broke up at the end of the stories with kei lo getting out of Mai's auntie shop, feeling devastated. now idk because maybe Mai realised her true feelings for Zuko and therefore drown with guilt of using Kei Lo for her own goods and she also said to Zuko earlier in that story that He likes her more than she likes him
None of what you pointed out is Solid evidence... 1. Izumi looks like Mai/Mai's Mother.. yeah sure she also looks like MOST of Zukos family.. and most importantly you can't really look at animated characters and make an assumption that one character is related to another. people think Ty Lee has Air bending decent because she "looks" like Aang BUT she ALSO looks like several other Fire Nation characters that appear throughout the show. 2. The writer you were talking about that left it purposly vague about who gets together if it was Mai and Zuko he could have just come out and said it. 3. Story boards??? Really we are pulling That as solid "evidence" not even real ones. Story boards that have been stated to be FAKE. 4. The biggest problem with all of this. The writers NOT coming foward and telling us straight up Mai marrys Zuko.. they have no reason not to. For example when asked the Writers dtraight up tell us Mako marrys one of Zukos granddaughters.. the writers have straight up have had Many opportunities to tell us that Mai and Zuko get back together. The famiky tree released for Korra Seasons 3 & 4 (when Izumi was introduced), the comics, commentary tracks, interviews, comics, fan events, and books. The fact is the linger they go without confirming Mai and Zuko get married and that Mai is Izumi's mother the more likely that Mai isn't going to be her mother.. again because they have no reason not to confirm otherwise right now because of how the OG show ended. But they are purposely leaving it open ended and i doubt its because they broke up in a set of comics that 70% of the fanbase haven't read.
Marrying someone you knew as a kid, isnt really that common though? Like people grow and change in their lives. No one in that show changed more than zuko. Frankly they seemed toxic together. They both deserve better.
*Mai:* _ready to face off unhinged Azula head-on to save Zuko after he defected their ultra-nationalistic country, leaving her with nothing but a note and minutes after he locked her in a cell when she confronted him about it, and he wasn't even sorry_ *Also Mai:* _breaks up with Zuko when the stress of reforming Fire Nation gets to him and he gets moody_ I'm surprised any of the comics are still considered canon, with how hard character writing and storytelling falls off. The entire premise of "the Promise" flies in the face of Aang's conflict in season 3. And it all goes downhill from there
Mai and Zuko toppled into the fountain. Zuko and Jin kissed at the fountain. I prefer to believe Jin is Izumi's mother. Mai is toxic for Zuko. Jin brought out the good side of Zuko.
I agree, Mai and Zuko looks good together but i always felt like they are both somewhat a toxic couple for each other considering their issues and the fact that they kept breaking up and coming back to each other is quite iffy
Honestly thought that being so proximal to Zuko and far from reliable contact with her boyfriend admists his travels: perhaps SUKI could have been Izumi's Mother. Ya know, LDRs don't always work out. That could explain why Tenzin, Kya, and Bumi don't have Cousins. Also the conflict could have led to a Sword Duel between two of Piandao's Students: Sokka and Zuko
