It's funny, when I started following strongman Thor was this young upstart in a sport that was dominated by Shaw and Big Z. Now he's the wise old sage of the sport, and Martins and Mateusz are the young upstarts looking to dethrone him

Dude i was so fucking impressed by his performance. He gave a 110% to everything. His performance on that last deadlift? Holy shit man, the effort was unbelievable. So much heart in every event he did. Rarely makes mistakes, almost always performs optimally, and is the best in so many areas. And congrats to him on the Circus Dumbell!! Thor is just so well rounded and trained so smart, optimally, and consistently with everything that he just breezed through everything at about 90-100% intensity. He never had to go above and beyond like Mateusz

he just did so bad on deadlift and not good on sandbag. unfortunate. goes to show its not about being the best at a few events but being decent at every event. Which is why thor got the win. coming 2nd then 1rst than 3rd than first than forth than tied 2nd.

The deadlifts were weak this year. I feel like it hit a peak and is going back down for the majority. Obviously Thor is doing well but even Pritchett isn't as good as he was.

Proud of you martins. Not gonna lie I was worried about you going into this one. After having all those problems and not even being able to use your right arm pretty much, to needing to qualify, competing down to the wire in Santa Monica, still not being 100%, going all the way to Iceland to train and being way behind in prep time compared to Thor since he didn't have to qualify. A podium finish is amazing man.

Mateusz's deadlifting lost him the title. He dominated, but finished poorly on the elephant bar, the broken strap didn't help either. It shows how important consistency is, If he could get to that 1000lb deadlift, he could win everything.

Doesnt need even close to 1000 to win. He just needed to pull like 910 to win overall....I'd have to look at the exact weights, but he only needed to beat out a couple people. If his deadlift comes up over the next year or two he will be an absolute force in strongman.

@@shawnmichaud4484 Maybe not 1000 on the elephant bar, 910 would be good enough as you say. On the standard bar there are more and more people that can lift 440kg now that you need to be able to hit those kind of weights to keep a good score. Everything else he is superb at.

Mateusz will be insane next year you can see the progress in just a year that was something else. Mikhail did that with that ankle, i knew he had an injury but thats impressive and congrats Martins great performance to get those injury's fixed. also third with those nice!
