😆 ok at 11:00 someone pointed out that Balto closes the door with his foot. I didn't catch that and I guess the reason why I didn't is because it made NO sense for Balto's foot to be able to reach behind the door after he was already outside UNLESS he has the ability to extend his body like Mister Fantastic😆 23:44 oh and there is the man! I swear to goodness, I have watched this movie dozens of times and I have never seen that clip. I swear it feels like they added it in recently. But it's still exciting to know that you can watch a movie repeatedly and still miss things.

Alaskan here. Funny enough Steel and Jenna look like a normal husky/malamute but the other dogs look like real Alaskan huskies. They don't look like the iconic husky but look more like smaller, skinnier mutts and most have floppy ears. They are not that popular as pets outside of Alaska. But yeah, still love this movie~

Between this, Lady and the Tramp, Oliver and Company, The Aristocats, Homeward Bound I and II, and 101 Dalmatians, it was a great time to grow up as a dog/cat lover in the 90s; watching these films on VHS. Speaking of Dalmatians, its been said before by Nostalgia Critic, but Steele is basically reverse Cruella. A dog willing to kill children, as opposed to a human willing to kill puppies.

Reevaluation of the self. What have ye become? You'll never find the light to remove the darkness in your unsparked body. You lycanthrope abominations of the archons, no star shall guide you in the clearest of nights, no wind will blow your sail even in the most intense of gales. You and your archonic lycanthrope kinds lack Synesis to appreciate the light of the world of the Aeons. You are far away, far away from the light. Ask yourself, ''What have I become?'', ''Will I ever find my place in the sun?'', ''Will I ever find Jerusalem?''. Furries are far away from the light, their mind shrouded with instinctive darkness of the material realm dominated by the archetype of the ego. Furries will never hold anything dear to their true egotistical selfish wrathful sarkic indignation. Unlike a leaf on the wind, a furry will never land on their place on the sun. Sarkics draining the light of Sophia bringing upon the archons. You shackle the Elpis brought upon by aeons from the tree of life. You drain the pneuma upon the ethos of the Pleroma. Would the tide of change go in favor to the power of archons? The lycanthrope flourishes free in the modern age with no regards to the pneuma of the aeons. The lycanthrope is free to spread their dominion upon the pneumatics. The Pleroma holds against the horde of hylics unleashed upon by androgynous archons forces under the Demiurge. The lycanthrope is a seducer like an archon to normalize savagery of the flesh, the lowest of the mind, the instinctive level, the Sarkic furries. The sarkic abomination of the Demiurge. What wrath shall thee unsleash upon the material world? Lycanthrope abomination subjugation of the instinct upon the divine intellect. The Sagrada Familia is an epitome of the power of the divine intellect gifted by the aeons. You and your lycanthropic kinds are unknowingly shrouding the gift of the divine intellect in humanity by spreading lies made by the archons to which you conceive to your marriage with the flesh. You are at the far end of the tether and when your thoughts won't fit together you'll need to deprogram your mind. It's like seeing a new day. Just what you need to make you nearer to the light. Ekklesiastikos Ainos pneuma rejuvinated by the star dust beyond the Material realm. You are a gross group of fetishists of animals. You have made a gross cultural materialist perversion of Gaia's flock. A core part of the consumption crisis that furries exploit is the perceived lack of sentience of animals. This subjugation of archonic furries over animals that can't express to humans their thoughts is a way for furries to take the image of animals and replace them to become one with the demiurge. The profound blocking of genetic diversity done by furries to nature to ensure that humans destroy nature and furries would now completely take the image of Gaia's flock and fulfill their sarkic desires. The unprincipled exception of archonic transcription to tolerate a hierarchy of The Loyal Society of the Flesh. The metabrain of the archonic lycanthropes pervades society to enshroud the inherited light through metagenesis locking human psyche that would guarantee reign of the Egotistical self that the Shadow hold inside our repressed self that reach back to the realm of our animal ancestors. The furry guarantees such a transformation to occur and continue the rule of the Demiurge to block the light from reaching the Pleroma. The principle of natural selection does not require it, selection can operate rapidly. The furries are a psychological rapid evolutionary deviated offshoot from the Homo Sapiens Sapiens species naturally selected by archonic forces. Geneticist Goldschmidt continued, every once in a while a macromutation might, by sheer good fortune, adapt a furry to a new mode of life, a "hopeful monster" in his terminology. Macroevolution proceeds by the rare success of these hopeful monsters, not by an accumulation of small changes within populations. The mutant gene produces its effect by changing the rates of partial processes of development. These significant change of genetic phenotype causes the individual to new behavioral changes. Response to external stimuli is drastically changed by macromutations to account for change in the phenotype of the individual. This drastic change leads to the fulfillment of the increase of the darkness inscribed into an individual. The individual loses their control on their behavior which their environmental influences, in this case fandom obsession, takes over and becomes the primary role of the individual's character, metacognition, evaluation of social constructs, perception of reality, fictional precedence over thoughts and feelings, and losing the ability to distinguish different unique precedences. These psychological change of character of an individual is due to environmental and genetic factors inhibiting normal development of the furry. Why would different partial processes of development be a significant factor to a species? Of what possible use are the imperfect incipient stages of useful structures? What good is half a jaw or half a wing? The concept of preadaptation provides the conventional answer by permitting us to argue that incipient stages performed different functions. The purpose of behavioral changes on the Homo Sapiens Sapiens in regards to the creation of an established preconceived behaviors is that these major adaptational changes in behavior is that it serves as a purpose to stall the creative useful potential behavior of the individual to the point that they unknowingly use material and informational capacity and to waste these resources in order for it to be diverted for selfish and anti developmental capacities that which their logos is diverted to the self which makes them economical and genetic burdens to both society and nature due to egotistical restrictions brought upon by environmental and genetic factors. The archons permeate these genetic phenotypes through increasing hormonal inputs of the individual. The environmental factors that change perception and behavior of an individual is because of the creation of artifacts, any medium furry fandom related, that imbues perception of hormonal change that affects metacognitively only to those whose genetic development has been altered through genetic macromutation. The effect of these genetic and environmental changes to a furry´s behavior is behavioral isolation due to speciation with their egotistical changed cognition. Behavioral isolation occurs when populations of the same species begin to develop different behaviors that are not recognized or preferred by members in another population. This so called behavioral isolation of sympatric speciation that creates changes to an individual from the same member of a species in the same geographic feature. Because there is no mate recognition between a furry and non-furry due to their behavioral isolation and their genetic and environmental deviations and differences. Слава Україні! Wasn't uncommon way back then for sled dogs to be extremely mutty. Back during the Yukon gold rush, people were jonsing for ANY dog that might be big and strong enough to pull a sled. As such people bought or stole any big dog they could to take north to the Yukon/Alaska territory. In fact there was a book based on that fact, Call of the Wild by Jack London. So the fact that a lot of the other sled dogs don't look like pure bred sled breeds is period correct.

Steele has blue eyes and is about the size of an Alaskan malamute. The breed standard for malamutes involves them having brown eyes. Blue eyes are possible in Siberian huskies, but not pure malamutes. All that combined with what you posted makes me think that Steele could be a mix of Siberian husky and Alaskan malamute. Idk, maybe.🤷🏻‍♀️

I also didn't like when Balto growled when his paw got stomped on. In that scene, something that stood out to me was that the adults were right there. They could see Steele stomp on Balto's paw. After seeing that, they would be like, we can't bring him. The other dogs don't like him; they'll tear him apart. That was the only scene I disliked, and I personally did not like the two polar bears. As a kid, I remembered how annoying they were, and there was one moment while watching this on the VCR I would purposely fast-forward past their scenes because they were very unlikeable to me.

Oh my god do we have the same mind or what?! I felt exactly the same way when I first saw this. I also wondered why the humans did not see him but I gave him the benefit of the doubt that they were concentrating on him and did not see that Steele stepped on his foot. Regardless it's so unnatural and unrealistic for him to growl that way when he is hurt instead of crying out and whimpering or biting towards where Steele stepped on him. I love Balto but he doesn't seem like he was the smartest person in the room. 😂 I also could not stand the polar bears and for the longest while I did not even realize they were polar bears until it was mentioned. After seeing the movie several more times years later, I grew to tolerate them because at least they had their own little side quest where they had to overcome their fear of swimming. I don't know if they were orphaned as babies or something, but one of the first things that baby polar bears are exposed to is swimming. Maybe they had a horrible backstory and a bad experience with water or saw their mom get Pulled Under by an orca whale or something, but that rescue part was cute. I believe Simon Wells confirmed that Balto's mother was a dog (he regarded Balto's father as the wolf parent while his mother was a working sled dog). If you recall that scene where Steele mock-howled ("I have a message for your mother!" and Balto got enraged, I personally imagine something dark happened in regards to Balto's father and mother. Like that mock howl was a wolf mating call or something (Like his wolf father abused his dog mother). Hence why Balto refuses to accept his wolf-side. My gosh, I have a morbid mind! Also, the White Wolf is NOT his mother, but is more a representation of Balto's Inner Voice, according to Wells. Forgot to add, but I LOVE Steele's design. I find it so intriguing how he looks way more like a wolf than Balto does, which is a cool distinction. He is more monster than dog.

@@Zay4Life I personally don't consider the second film canon, as the director of Balto 2 admitted to having never watched the original film. He just thought making the White Wolf his mother sounded like an interesting setup for the 2nd film (And it is interesting), but I don't agree with that change. It goes against the message Wells personally had in mind for the first film.
@Parasolhyena
@Parasolhyena 2 года назад
His quote says: "Whether the White Wolf is Balto's father or some kind of ephemeral Spirit of Wolf is deliberately unstated" I'd accept that it's a spirit but for it to be his farther after what was implied happened to his mother (that even Simon implied might have happened and could be an allegory for a father seeking forgiveness, which honestly, gross he shouldn't be seeking that from his son but his son's mother) I'd hate that. I'll say it even if it's unpopular: Simon Wells often uses his female characters as set pieces or motivating forces for male characters in his movies. Might I remind you he made Mars needs mums (honestly thinking of everything he directed and wrote for I can say An American Tail go west had the best women in it and even then they were both the goals for the male characters). I honestly prefer that Phil Weinstein went with death of the author and did something cool with it. Steele has always been my number 1 most hated cartoon dog. I mean, he went from your typical narcissistic bully to a remorseless monster that is willing to sabotage Balto's mission to return the medicine that'll save dying humans from a potentially fatal disease. Seriously, how sadistic is that?! For a long time, I thought Georgette from Oliver and Company was the absolute worst until this egotistical son of a b*tch (literally) took her place as my most hated cartoon dog. I really hope that after the events of the Balto film, Steele got banished from Nome for his crimes and later slaughtered by a pack of wild wolves. Good riddance.

It seems to me that Steel would be able to easily outrun the sled dogs, because he didn't have to pull a sled. It's like how swimmers train by wearing baggy pants to slow them down and build up strength, but on the day of the competition they wear a swimsuit that conforms to their body so there is as little drag as possible.

In addition you acknowledge any biases that you may have due to your upbringing. Thank you. I wish there were more reviewers like you. I know that you did Bambi to some extent but, I would be so interested to see what you'd think of all the Disney movies given that they tend to depict unusual circumstances, tom foolery and strange character decisions. I noticed that you tend to focus more on anthropomorphic based creatures, and nearly all Disney movies have some kind of animal companions or anthropomorphic characters. In short, I think we as your audience would really enjoy something like that in addition to the content that you already create.

Can we comment about how Balto as supposedly a 1st generation wolfdog should be absolutely towering over Steele. I know it's meant to portray Balto as the underdog in the story, but really he should be MUCH bigger than Steele and easily able to rip him to pieces. I remember rewatching this movie as a kid after knowing how big wolfdogs got and it annoyed me knowing that Balto was way smaller than he should have been.

The real heroes of this story were a team led by a 12-year-old dog named Togo. There's a movie on Disney+ that follows it much more closely, appropriately called "Togo". Togo and his team, along with their musher, Leonhard Seppala, ran a total of 340 miles in order to retrieve the medicine during the relay. Balto and his team carried it only on the last stretch of the relay, a paltry 55 miles in comparison, the average journey for all teams (except for Togo) being a measly 31 miles. It's also worth mentioning that Seppala and his team had originally intended to run all the way to Fairbanks to retrieve the serum, and were informed of the relay at the end of the first day when they reached the waypoint house. Additionally, it is believed that Togo's team SHORTENED the overall length of the relay by a whole day by cutting across the frozen water of Norton Bay, TWICE, instead of going around it on land. Then, while on route from Ungalik to Shaktoolik, he discovered that they had added more sleds to the relay when he ACCIDENTALLY met with Henry Ivanoff, who was in possession of the serum. There, Seppala took possession of the serum on the third day of his run, and turned around, without stopping to rest, once again crossing Norton Bay, which was beginning to crack, and rested for six hours at Isaac's Point. They then continued their run before handing it over to Charlie Olson in Godovin, who then relayed it to Gunnar Kaasen, Balto's team, in either Solomon or Bluff, Alaska. Leonhard Seppala was a respected dog breeder, and he actually bred and owned both Togo and Balto. Although Seppala didn't want Togo at first, whom he tried to give away at least once, Togo eventually proved his worth as a lead dog, and as part of his team, whereas he claimed that Balto had never shown what it took to be a lead dog, and didn't even bring him because he believed he was too inexperienced for the journey. In fact, Balto actually co-led the sled with a more experienced dog named Fox, the news print cutting him out of the paper completely to avoid confusing readers. I'm not trashing Balto or this movie, as I barely remember it. I am simply pointing out and explaining what I've seen several others comment about, and that I'm rather passionate about.

"Balto and that movie you can quote to enjoy people killing themselves over who's the best good boy between him and Togo... and everyone wanted the deleted scene of Steele's death to be on screen (me too honestly, the basic animation was dark but sooo cool)" Jokes apart, my aunt has a wolfdog, I had the pleasure of being a pet-sitter for her and the very frst thing she said was: "Remember, he is NOT a dog, don't think you're dealing with one". Have to say, Biter (his name is Bob, but we call it Biter 'cause he took a big bite out of a thief trying to sneak in the house, the bastard even tried to sue my aunt for having a dangerous wild animal and got, I hope, laughed in the face by the cops while he was being arrested for trespassing and property damages) is even more educated than many dogs I've met while walking mine and it took less time to train him than two of mine, I was like: "Please sir (the trainer my aunt contacted), tell me your secret! I'm trying to teach mine that balls are to play and not to destroy the very same day I buy them, but it was a massacre!"😂

did anyone else notice how the entire animated portion of the movie kind of reflects Balto as a character? Balto's personality is very straightforward for the most part with a few emotional turmoils mixed in His romance with Jenna is also very straightforward... And so is the story structure... Rosy's parents are devastated when Rosy is sick, which ends up becoming an underlying emotional turmoil of the movie just like Balto's inner wolf turmoil thing... Character archetypes in the movie are also all very clear and straightforward i think that's enough to understand what i mean

Really happy to see you review this movie. I loved it alot as well. I kinda disagree with Balto racing JUST to impress Jenna. You notice Rosie was the ONLY human that treated Balto like a dog as opposed to a half-breed outcast. In regards to that husky or malamute that got pushed around and dragged behind by Steele, it seems he's in the second spot because he's fast. As you see in the race, he came ahead of most of the dogs. What Star lacks in strength, he makes up for in by being faster than all the other dogs except Balto and Steele obviously. I will admit they don't do a good job conveying that.

I was obsessed with Balto, dogsledding & wolves for a while, thanks to this movie, and once I learned about the true story of the 1925 Serum Run, it made me wish THAT was animated rather than the "let's make our hero different so he can triumph over adversity" and such. The true story of what happened definitely is much more dramatic & dark; thankfully, Disney+ made that Togo movie that gave another incredible true-life hero canine a chance to have his story told. Overall, great video! I definitely would like to see your take & opinions on the two Balto follow-ups, "Wolf Quest" & "Wings of Change" (especially the former; it's my favorite of the trilogy & it has more of a wolf calling than the OG Balto movie)!

In all seriousness though, the people shouldn't have added Balto to the team even if he won. The only thing that race proved was that he was the fastest. He never had any experience as a sled dog. They would have had to trained him up before allowing him on a dog sled team for something so important which I'm pretty sure they didn't have time to do. Despite realism, this movie was one of my go to dog movies in my childhood. For a movie that wasn't a Disney one, it had good animation and was memorable even if it didn't have any songs. Fun Fact Alteori, both of Balto's parents are dead. Balto's father returned to the town when he realized that he couldn't survive in the wilderness with his mate. But they still visited each other as the weeks went by, until his mom returned to her mate's fallen corpse at the den site outside of the town. It's unknown how he died, but most believe that he was mauled by other wolves, as there were plenty of packs around the town. Without a partner, she was forced to return to her old pack, but they were nowhere to be found. After time went by, Balto's mother was killed by a lone wolf that was trying to take over the pack that the mom was trying to join. The wolf thought that Balto's mom was the mate of the alpha(So he killed her and left). Balto was old enough to eat meat when this happened, and he eventually ran into Boris when he was looking for his mother. *Her guiding spirit is more noticeable in "Balto 2".*

If you find the vid, check the description, it may have the sources in there.

The story of Balto was one of the first books I read with big words; I'll always remember my aunt being impressed when I slowly pronounced diphtheria.

There is one breed that almost matches up with wolves in bite, the Kangal, national dog of Turkey, supposedly able to put out over 700psi in a bite, so if wolves usually only rarely hit 1000-1500 according to sources the Kangal is a close competitor in terms of dogs and even that doesn't stack up very well lmao

Weren't they bred to handle fighting wolves to protect flocks?

@@Alteori Wolves and brown bears I think, super awesome breed considering they are the strongest breed in terms of bite psi and yet they are amazing family dogs with chill personalities supposedly.
