I seriously feel sad for imhoteps personal servant\priests... They do anything to hide imhotep's mess... Only to receive an alive mummifying process... No rewards... No thanks... Just a long process of horrible pain & afterlife...
@@blackmantis3130 Hamunaptra was indeed sacred, thus a holy site. Why do you think Imotep and his priests were punished if it wasn't such a blasphemous act?
The Pharaoh's death, for me, is what makes a good scary moment. We don't see the blood and gore as Imhotep and Anck Su Namun stab him to death, we only see the shadows of what's happening and imagine how violent it looks behind the curtain.
+Erik “ThePhantom” Destler I agree. They show the knife and the sword, so we really don't need to see Pharaoh get chopped to bits to figure out what's going on. The screams and the horrified reaction of Imhotep's priests is a lot more effective to me.
Agreed. That's the problem with a lot of scary movies nowadays: they don't leave enough to the imagination. Because, if we get shocked enough, what our messed up minds can think of can be waaaay more disturbing than anything we see onscreen. XD
It was mean to be a reference to the original Mummy, where Helen was the reincarnation of the princess. Agreed with Nostalgia Critic that the original was better, even it was like a copy of Dracula. These movies payed some respect to the original, unlike the 2017 one.
@MUFC What does that have to do with the mummy? I also like to point out how you're using soccer instead of football, despite your name and profile picture being MUFC, a British team.
@@brandenburg2388 He may fancy himself as a living god, but she who controls the flow of booty can talk how she likes to him. Such has it always been for men.
"My body is no longer his temple!" What a strong sentence proclaiming her agency/reclaiming of her body. Even though she turned out to be evil. LOVE that quote.
***** Meaning her body is no longer something he can choose to come in and out of as he pleases, pun very much so intended 😅 It's proclaiming the fact that she can now choose what she wants to do with her body because it no longer "belongs" to him, as she was his concubine (?).
I love this movie. The scene and the screenplay. It's amazing how the Pharaoh does not respond in defense because he is in utter shock and that is how much he believes in his priest. And after Imhotep grabs his sword, I love it that he waits and keeps looking at the Pharaoh like there is a silent conversation going on there and out of respect. And it is actually Ankhesenamun who stabs him first.
Right when you incomplete shock you freeze bcuz you don’t know wat happened!! Happened to me with the police lol I was at my trunk and they jumped out of old vans with guns i thought I was done 😂 bcuz white and black dudes jumped out of a van with guns I thought it was a hit 😂 I was caught completely by surprise I froze up until they flung me to the ground lol
@@theshermantanker7043 that's because imothep is the Pharaoh's trusted subordinate. He's supposed to protect, advice him and the land they live in. Imothep knew he wasn't allowed to have ancksunamun and his position in the country made it clear why he was punished in the most cruel way. The pharao is the linchpin of ancient Egypt, the connection to the ancient gods, the ruler and the protector of Egypt. Imothep his priest assisted in his murder, stole his wife all that brought shame to the Egypt people and their faith
@@lamb4613 The pharaoh would have had multiple wives and mistresses. The fact that he gets to fool around but she’s supposed to be faithful is bullshit.
And, the real Imhotep, in addition to being a high priest, was also a statesman, engineer, architect (having designed the step pyramid at Saqqara) and physician. He was most famous for his work as a physician, and was eventually deified as the god of medicine.
This is such a good movie. Especially compared to the unfettered feces that was Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Thing is, the Mummy 3 SHOULD have been great. Check out our video on it. If you're a fan of The Mummy, it'll be cathartic for you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6lXuMMaZM1k.html
This entire flick is so worth it simply because of Patricia Velasquez. Just that shot of her walking down (0.19 - 0.25) - always gives me chills! Glad director Steven Sommers gave her more scenes in Mummy Returns.
I never got how the body paint was an effective indicator of Anck-Suman's infidelity, what if she had to scratch herself, wouldn't that mess it up too?
I'm telling you that your view of Ancient Egypt is blurred by racism and hate. Any river can be looked at like a highway where people and things move up and down. You have a very very unrealistic view of the past egypt did not exist in its own vacuum
if you walk back up the river Nile into Africa You pass nine countries Egypt Tanzania, Rwanda , Uganda, Burundi Kenya, Ethiopia , Sudan and ZaireThere you can find all the braids, beads, animals and plants of Ancient Egypt
So... is anyone else gonna state how oddly awesome the guards look, busting in through the door, walking like bad ass mofos. Giving off this aura of "the guards are in the house!" Without having to say one word.
That sound track itself gives you goosebumps. I can do time travel, by just watching this movie. Traveling back to my childhood. Thank you. Brenda Fraser Rachel Weisz Stephen sommers Jonathan And others who help make this movie.
It’s about time someone other than myself is giving big praise to the soundtrack! My favorite part in the music is 0:42-1:04 and the part where they kill the Pharaoh. It’s epic!
First time I watched this movie ,I thought these lovebirds were kind and innocent till they slayed the pharaoh and that mummification ...gave me nightmare when I was little...
I got almost the same story only that my dad didn't want me to watch the movie since he knew I wouldn't be able to sleep for 2 weeks lol. I never watched it only when I became 18 and fell in love with the film. I thank him today for not letting me watch it as a kid. I mean this movie would terrify and little guy out there no doubt it creepy
To be fair, they wanted to be together but the Pharaoh wouldn't let them plus we don't know what kind of man the Pharoah was or how Imhotep and the woman he loved would've been like as rulers of Egypt. For all we know, the Pharoah could've been a tyrant while Imhotep and the woman he loved could've been great rulers to their people. I'm just saying that we don't have enough info about what they were all like in ancient Egyptian times.
The Nameless Monster I was six when I first saw this movie and the only times I ever got scared was when Imhotep and the others were in corpse form. When I saw this scene, even as a six year old girl I thought Anck-su-namun was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen
This scene is so etched in my memory. I was 18 when I watched this movie and I wished I was in love with someone so passionate it endured death itself.
"For he would arise a walking disease...a plague upon mankind....an unholy flesh eater with the strength of ages.....power over the sands.....and the glory of invincibility. I love that line.
the sound effects and background music are truly wonderful like it brings a sense of ancient awareness, 10/10 for the music composeres and truly this is my favourite film of all the time
Don't feel bad for the Pharaoh, they were notorious ass holes; possessive single-minded men. They killed many innocent people. And how would you feel to be trapped to someone you despised only because he/she sees your attractiveness as something they must posses solely for themselves? You are a prisoner. And for no other reason then the fact that your beautiful. She wanted to be free. So does anyone.
Yeah, I wanna be born in Ancient Egypt, too. Where slavery was vast, medicine was underdeveloped, and rare, and diseases like the West Nile Virus, Yellow Fever, and Malaria were more common than ever! Lol
Lol, I think it's funny that it never seemed to frighten me but the temple of doom did. Well, I have this movie and the sequels to thank for inspiring me to be an archeologist.
same im 21 now and i had nightmares about the beatles eating people slowly alive and floating demon spirits and the rotten corpse demon the priest turned into and shit
The Freestyle Garage I remember going on the ride at Universal Studios based on this movie when I was 10 (I loved roller coasters) and I was so scared lol. But in current day, this is one of my favorite movies and the ride is one of my favs, too :D
Considering the circumstances of their love… it’s quite a tragically romantic story… Almost swoon and tear worthy! Forbidden love! And despite being evil Anck-su-namun’s final words is quite badass! Reclaiming agency over herself and her body
The sequel ruined the original for me. I always felt like it was a mistake to undermine the love connection between the antagonists. The idea that love can become fearsome in its application is so much more interesting than..."you know what, strike that, they didn't love each other all that much after all."
My mom has just came back from Egypt and she's keepin' talkin' about all Egypt stuff I'm kind of jealous I wanna go there since I've seen the movie 13 years ago by the way in this movie they took care of all details of that period GREAT MOVIE
I'm addicted to their lines: "ibipp yo hareh.. Inee meeyo too, KYAHAMEH! kyaya harah tratay natsu haweh." that's the most romantically intense moment in the movie. Patricia Velasquez and Arnold Vosloo made a priceless art out of those lines, I don't think they could've been said differently with such precise drama and with the music its just perfection, the facial expressions, makeup and costumes with all the add-ons. the BEST MUMMY MOVIE
Miki Anchevski in one of the directors versions where the producer, director and Brendan spoke over the scenes to explain things, the director said they pretty much told the actors to improvise their "Egyptian" lines😅 so no none of it is real
We'll never truly know. I do know that Imhotep truly loved her and that he was willing to risk death to be with her and even went as far as to kill his Pharoah for her.
I like to think she really liked him but didn't love him. I mean she pretty much when through all that trouble to resurrect him in the Mummy Returns but in the end left him.
"Thebes. City of the living." Looks more like Giza to me. No but seriously this movie is my childhood. An absolute gem. A perfect example of a remake done right. The same story made for the generation watching it. The acting and the effects still hold up over 20 years later. A perfect blend of horror, action, comedy and romance. Good on you Mr Sommers. Good on you.
I'm so glad I never watched the third one, as I heard they didn't even bring Rachel Weisz back. (Don't know if she couldn't film the third movie, or just chose not to). Probably liked the Mummy Returns even more than the first movie. . .
+MegaNatsu11 But first movie was like "Oh, ignoring the casualties, resurrecting your lover is kinda nice", while second movie was like "OK, you finally accomplished your mission from the first movie... Since when did you want to take over the world with Anubis' army again?"
DarkAdonisVyers If I remember right, it was Meela/Anck-su-namun who told Imhotep in the second movie that they would rule the world together with the Army of Anubis (not including when Hafez told him that it was the Year of the Scorpion, but didn't mention the Army or taking over the world). Based on that, I'm guessing Imhotep went along with the plan if only to please Anck-su-namun.
In the second movie it was originally Anck-su-namun's reincarnation and the cult she was involved with who wanted to take over the world, so I just assumed Imhotep went along with it at first to make her happy. However, when he became mortal again, Anck began having second thoughts about him risking his life for power, but Imhotep went forward anyway. It's likely that he had become more power-hungry by that point, since he continued to go after the Scorpion King even after Anck said she didn't want to lose him again, but even so, he clearly tells her "nothing can stop *us*; it is *our* destiny" as opposed to "nothing can stop *me*; it is *my* destiny", which shows that he was to some extent still doing it for her. But that said, he did say afterward that "the Army of Anubis shall now be *MINE*", which shows that he was also selfish to some degree by that point. In short, he originally did it for Anck, but his motives became somewhat more selfish as time went on.
In real life the pharaohs had at least 50 concubines, young fertile women which the pharaoh banged day and night. Most pharaohs had at least 100 children by the end of their reigns.
At least Imhotep and Anck su Namun's love story is much more real, relatable and compelling, with its lights and its shadows, its virtues and flaws. Unlike Twilight, which the main couple are so excessively perfect that is nauseating, along with Bella being a self insert for the author and being based on her wet dreams.
@@planetoftheapes6044 True, in fact if you look at Egypt, how long it lasted and how strong it was, you can say that it was the greatest country that has ever existed, the greatest empire that has ever existed.
Erik Killmonger’s line: “…Just bury me in the ocean with my ancestors who jumped from ships, cause they knew death was better than bondage”, is a re-telling of exactly what Anck Su Namun was going through in this scene. It’s better to die, than to be a slave.
In this movie, Anck-su-Namun is willing to die for Imhotep, but in the second movie, she runs away instead of saving him from the Underworld pit, though that might have been because her reincarnation self isn't quite her original. And let's not even talk about their relationship in the animated series.
Her reincarnation being different is likely why she ran away. The real Anck-Su-Namun would've rescued Imhotep from the Underworld pit in my opinion and likely killed the 'present day' aspect of herself for not saving Imhotep.
@@girlgarde Also, what's weird is that present day Anck-Su-Namun is what... in her 20s at least? Unless this took place 20 years after the first movie, it would imply that, at one point, Anck-Su-Namun's soul was both in her reincarnated body and her undead body.
The Weird thing in this Film is in Real Life Imhotep lived a thousand years ago before the Seti I's Reign. And also Seti was died because of illness instead of Murder.
OMG!!! The terrible cruelty, and ruthlessness, the Magi meeted out to Imhotep for his involvement in the murder of the Pharoah was a frightening retribution. For the priests also. They were all doomed the minute they murdered the Pharoah. Paid a terrifying price and justifiable karma. Too bad they couldn't get to Anck-Su-Namun before she killed herself. I'm quite sure the princess would have had quite a unique death for her.
And, the real high priest Imhotep was also a statesman, architect, engineer (having designed the step pyramid at Saqqara), and physician. After his death Imhotep was most famous for his work as a physician, and was eventually deified as the god of medicine.
Love when 4 priest closing the heavy door with difficulties, the Pharaoh just push it aside like it's no deal..is it somekind of cinematic power projection or what ?
I love how both from the statues and the pharaoh's name, you can tell that Set was the patron deity of Thebes. Indeed, for a long while, he was the top Egyptian god, before worshipers of Osiris and Horus rose to power, after which he was demonized.
