The Mummy Caves - Exploring Victorian Factory Remains (Abandoned Isle of Wight)

Abandoned Ruins of an old Cement factory, also known as the “Mummy Caves” these cement kilns are all that is left of the old Victorian concrete factory.
I had thought that everything had been knocked down when the rest of the factory was leveled so it was nice to see these appear from the overgrowth over the last few weeks.
The site is now managed by conservation project Gift To Nature and they have been clearing the land around the kilns, reading around I think that it is eventually hoped that the kilns will be opened to view by the public.

lol i used to play in these back in the days when kids used to go out playing with other kids instead of sitting glued in front of a tv or playing a console lol

They are magnificent. Were they Lime kilns, or something like that? Great photography, and well-chosen music to accompany it. Nice one.

Thank you, 😁 They were concrete kilns, not particularly sure how they differ from lime kilns (chuck something in make it hot get something else out?😅). It was great to see them again.

Where the factory now is, four anchoring ring bolts that the stays for a huge big mast were made fast to, judging from the distance apart the mast must have been quite tall, the bolts were 1inch diameter and the concrete pad was about 3 feet by 2 feet, they have been built over now, can anybody else remember them? and have we any history as to what the mast was for?

Thank you Grace, I have visited many times throughout the years, although, I've never put anything online as there isn't anything there that hasn't been posted on here countless times before... Who knows, one day I might If I find a way into the swimming pool building without setting the alarm off! 😂

Abandoned Isle of Wight that’s a shame, you should definitely make a video. It’s interesting seeing it from other people’s perspectives! Haha, I would love to explore there just too much of a wimp! I’m sure there will be a way into the pool one day 😂

This is all that left of the old cement factory and these remains are cement kilns. I think the plan is to do some archeological digging on the site.

Yup it’s on the Island next to the Vestas building on the Cowes cycle track, it was overgrown for a good number of years

@@AbandonedIsleofWight Dammit! Another domestic argument lost. Agai. Durned quick response, there, so well done ! Just watched your blog about "Rudi". Thought it was dead smart, right up my street. Had plans for something like this back in 1981, when video cameras were just becoming available to rent. Came to nowt, 'cept some ropey super8 footage, spoiled by some tourist playing squash against a motorway flyover in the background. Some unfathomable sci-fi epic THAT turned out to be. Pity the projector ate the footage last time out. Love your work , love exploring vids, love the island. Be there next week ,good to be back after 3 year absence. Keep it up, mate, you got talent.
