At first I was like "Hey he missed a verse!" Then I remembered the verse contained the line "It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics to get you on your feet again" and I was like "Oh, right. 70's TV, family show, gotcha."
he's singing so perfectly I thought it's lipsyncing at first. but then you see little nuances here and there from the album version to realize he's really singing alive. oh man he's got the most beautiful voice in the rock history.
Of all the bands for Elton John to be backed by, Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem. Way cool. This has got to be the calmest Animal has ever been on drums.
This is what pure talent sounds like. Long Live Sir Elton John. Update: I had the wonderful opportunity to see him perform at Amalie Arena in Tampa on April 24, 2022 and this was the final Encore Song before he waved goodbye to the crowd and went offstage. The concert was absolutely amazing, bittersweet because it’s likely the last time Elton John will tour but being able to see him is a truly treasurable experience. Revisiting this video made me a happy kind of sad
So what? It is how he transforms those lyrics to song. Without the melody and the voice the lyrics would be more liked by poetry lovers. Besides he can put a beautiful melody to anyone's words or make beautiful music without words.
@@mattrobledo4871 yikes if you think paul or john were better singers lol. Elton has so much more range. Pauls voice had already started showing wear by late 73. Pauls a great singer but Eltons voice is superior and to this his voice is very very powerful hes only lost the range and obviously its deeper with age
I am getting old i am 58 next month. I love the Beatles and other bands of the 60 ths and the 70 ths and early 80's but late 80's when SAW came on and destroy everything
Elton John+Electric Mayhem+ Goodbye Yellow Brick Road=More epic win than the world seems capable of containing. I am a great deal happier having watched this.
Even though I'm only 13, this starts up those nostalgia feels. My dad always showed me the original Muppets show when was little. I freaking loved it. I even still watch it every once in awhile today 😀 this is the shit.
He is still kicking after all these years,he can't hit every high note like he once could but regardless, his voice is still comforting and angelic like it always was.
I swear, this performance was a pivotal point in my young life. Loved the muppets I then became an Elton John fan ♡ I finally get to see this legend play next month ♡
I always loved Elton's music. Never would we have known what turmoil he was going through at this time in his life. But I always felt he was sad even as a kid. So glad he turned his life around and found love ♡
For the intended audience (youthful), the lyrics: "I bet that'll shoot down your plane It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics" Were removed from the muppet version of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and the song still works. Great songs like this always do. And glad to see Elton sang it live with a live recorded backing track by his own band.
My heart melts every time I may listen to this song. I love it so much. Had the honour to see Sir Elton live last month in Cologne, Germany. Hardly a live concert I attended touched me so much emotionally. Nothing but love to Hercules John, the man who's made of pure and wonderful talent.
This is a great song and a great performance. Probably my favorite Elton John song of all time. I noticed that the comment in this comments section that received the most thumbs up stated that "Elton John is such a poet...", but it should be noted that Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to this song and many of Elton John's other songs during this time period in Elton's career. Elton John and Bernie Taupin were viewed as a sort of a songwriting team and they sure made for a great songwriting team.
This makes me so happy. If I was this famous and had such a special voice talent like Sir Elton here, I would love to do this type of stuff all the time. It would be cool to this for families and children.
I am so pleased he sang live - what would've made it perfect for me is if the ENTIRE muppet cast sang backup and could be heard a little louder...they have the perfect voices for it
Sir Elton Hercules John inspired me to create a character for my future video game Enter the Claytoverse. He is called the Great Elton. He is a magician with a great voice.
It was a family show, more so than a kids show. Plus, previous epiosdes alluded to far more adult things than gin and tonic. Elton did 4 songs in the episode and all of them were cut. Most probably due to time more than anything else. Because if he had done all the songs at full length, there wouldn't have been any time for The Muppets stuff.
This is vintage Elton John as he hits all those great high notes that he used to be able to sing. Love this version with the Muppets ! Thank you for posting this awesome video.
I love his smile so freaking much oh my gosh. It's adorable and genuine and he seems actually happy and proud and it's so amazing!! I just really admire him a lot, he's been through so much but he's still a rock star and keeps fighting and Im rambling but I just REALLY REALLY appreciate him so much!! What an incredible person omg!! It would be so surreal to meet him in person
Could it have gotten any better than this back in the day! I remember watching the 'Muppets' when I was a kid, and yes seeing this performance! Great memories, thanks!
I love him on the muppet show he was amazing I love this version I also found out I can get the muppets on Roku about time Awesome love Elton great version with the electric Mayhem lol
I loved the muppets so much as a kid and still do to this day 😍😍😍 I thank my mom for exposing me to this! This was my favorite episode! I'm proud to be the 90s kid I am! But I think the old shows are the best! Thumbs up if you think so!
One of the few times my parents ever yelled at my sister and I was to shut us up while singing along to this on a late night road trip. Totally worth it
My generation has had many great and talented performers but no legends. Greats like elton john, John lennon, the beatles, rolling stone and jimmy hendrix will live forever.
I can't remember if this or Lynda Carter was the first episode I ever saw, but I can say with confidence that Elton John was my first concert aged 6. The way this episode came up on the VHS my mom recorded for us was perfect cuz it started here, the episode made a reprise and the tape ended on Any Old Iron. Took me eons to realize it was cyclical
