Today I share a new Turntable I acquired (store demo) in the form of the Luxman PD-151 (the older model) with a Luxman LMC-5 Cartridge. This is not a review of the table, rather a video with a first look and I also share some of the albums I am enjoying right now with the table. I am now using this table with a Pass Labs XP-17 Phono Preamp and it is a great match up, with an improvement over the internal of the 595 ASE.
Enjoy!

Thanks so much for the lp suggestions. I'm always looking for more from the muse, whether vinyl or digital sources. One has to appreciate the old recordings when there was much less processing of the singers' voices, allowing the unique character of each to shine.

Congratulations! I love Luxman too and own a few of their pieces. Thanks for sharing your music. If you can get your hands, on a D-10X definitely do. It's DAC, which you can use with external sources is a huge bonus. Its CD transport is phenomenal. The D-10X easily brings you into the performance no matter how you use it. 🎶

A very entertaining episode, as usual. I've actually just bought a used 151mk2 from Japan, for AUD$2450. Now I just have to wait two weeks.........

The sound on Sinatra at the Sands is beyond belief; it was gifted to my wife by her aunt who was in her 80’s; we cleaned it surfaces are silent talk about being in the venue! No hype and the recording is 70 years old; one of the best live recordings IMHO. Do more of these please. Thanks!

I like you sharing the albums. In fact although it may be streaming, there is something you mentioned I want to hear now. I was wondering about the turntable as the more recent videos of your listening room did not show one.

Wow the Luxman tt is better than that VPI you had! Hard to believe
@HiFiHuff
@HiFiHuff Год назад
I had a VPI Prime years ago. It was a great table but I ended up not being a huge fan of the unipivot tonearms and tweaky nature of the VPI tables. In the VPI Realm I had a Prime and years before that a Classic. The Classic is a great table but it was just overbearing in size and weight. It was a monster and was larger than my amps. I tested out a Technics 1200G not so long ago (which I enjoyed and almost purchased) but the Luxman ticked more boxes for me in design and style (and I found a used deal). I listen to much more digital than analog but the 151 is a pleasure to use and yes, I would say it bests the VPI I had in sound and even design FOR ME (maybe not for you). VPI Tables are cool, but you have to like the tonearms and they are not free of issues. The Prime had a noisy motor that needed to be swapped when I bought it initially. I also much prefer a button to change speeds rather than having to move the belt to do so. The Luxman is a beauty but there are many tables out there that are just as good or better. Things such as this are a personal choice more than "better or worse". The VPI is not "better" than The Luxman though, just different design, materials, type of arm, etc. I can say one thing I DISLIKE about the 151 is that it has captive interconnects. Can't change them. With VPI you can. Thanks.

@@thomasfi1275 Not true, sorry to call you out but as I have said a million times, I ONLY REVIEW gear I enjoy. I drop not do negative reviews. I send back PLENTY of gear that doesn't get reviewed. I'd say 1-2 pieces per month go back without review. This table is not "the best" as that does not exist in audio. At this time, with the 595, this table is "the best" for me, and yes, the best table I have owned, for my tastes. I talk about gear that is actually worth the money, which is why you will not see me review many brands or pieces. Nothing I have reviewed is "The Best" for everyone, that doesn't exist. I am sorry you dislike positive reviews but if you want to see trashing, I do not do that here. I'd rather not review a product if it is subpar (and many pieces of gear are subpar). I also keep a ton of gear and have way too much (some that have been in boxes for a year or more), but it is our entertainment in life and we enjoy it. Have a good day.

Yes; it is a Jelco tonearm. The Mk2 uses a different supplier since Jelco shutdown it’s tonearm operations.
