"Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean" is a patriotic song written about 1843. It was long used as an unofficial national anthem, in competition with other songs, until Congress made "The Star Spangled Banner" official in 1931. Columbia was a nick name for the United States during the same period. A personification of Columbia was long used as an emblem of the US, much as France's Marianne or England's John Bull. Here is a rather lush version with all three choruses. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8wIDXclKtGQ.html
