I love Waffles! I thought the guy with the black mare with white markings was really good and the guy who patted his the bottom of his horse's hooves was great, too!
EXCELLENT REPORTING BRITTA!! LOVED THOSE SMALL BUT IMPORTANT COMMENTS, LIKE SAFE HANDLING OF LEAD ROPES, ALSO COMMENTS ABOUT THE TRAINERS AND THEIR HISTORY OF THE EVENTS THEY HAVE COMPETED IN. KEEP UP THE GREAT REPORTING, YOU WERE MADE FOR THIS. Susan
Matt Zimmerman is from my area and he and his wife help host Idaho’s Mustang Mania challenge which I got to attend last year with a friend who competed. They have clinics at a local arena and help many people in our area learn how to handle and train their horses. I love to see him at Fort Worth but it is impressive the work all of these trainers have put in!
Thank you so much for posting this!! The only thing I miss about lockdown is that the EMM and Magic were live-streamed…. Would love to someday see an EMM IRL, but it’s tough to afford the travel expenses. I really appreciate being able to get a ringside seat to watch the competition- some absolutely GORGEOUS Mustangs in that class! Wow!
Just great horsemanship to get these beautiful animals to a point of such cooperation and partnership. Waffles is just gorgeous, and such a willing horse- I would not be able to part with it.
Thank you for your series. These horses are so beautiful and calm. Many buckskins! Waffles is gorgeous. The arena seems empty but maybe we don’t see the sides with spectators? Are many viewing it online?
Could you livestream or upload everyone's freestyle routines tonight and tomorrow(the 20th)? I have friends competeing and I couldn't afford to go see them in person this year
I was pleased to see Waffles allowed to turn around to unload, only because that's how I do it and I need kindred spirits who are good with this. I get that the configuration of some trailers don't allow for this, or when you have 4 horses in a 4 horse trailer, the first one is going to have to back out, yet it's easy to understand a horse's worry about backing off a step they can't see. I've heard at least a few people insist that horses should always back out, but I've never heard the rationale for this.
I've always backed mine out, just because they need to learn to do it. I haul with many different trailers and can't have a horse freaking out just cause it has to back up.
In the show world, wearing a helmet is better than nothing, granted a hat is preferred for western handlers. Those that show in English attire are supposed to wear a helmet.
