In North Carolina's Lake Norman lies Normie, a lake monster reported to look like an overgrown alligator. Investigators theorize that Normie might be the result of a mutation caused by the nearby nuclear power plant.
'Boogeymen' takes an in-depth look at the history of local monsters and travels to the small, picturesque towns where they appeared to listen to both believers and skeptics as they investigate the most recent sightings.

My grand father was a diver who was part of the maintenance team for Warragamba Dam in NSW, he told of the day he and four other divers quit on the spot after they all saw an eel whose head was bigger than the men’s heads. Grandpa said it was so big that none of them saw the ‘whole’ eel. He thought it must’ve been more than 6/7 metres long. Obviously there’s no proof of such but when grandpa would tell us about it he was clearly very shaken. And this man survived combat in WW2. He was a war hero. And is always my hero 🫡❤️

I wish there was more research on lake monsters. A boyfriend and I were visiting Crater Lake in Oregon one very clear day and we both saw an enormous dark creature almost surface then descend back into the depths of the water. It was absolutely huge, definitely larger than a sailboat and we both saw it at the same time and agreed it could not be any kind of ordinary fish. Crater Lake has Native American legends and mystery also, and I believe it's the deepest one in the United States. I definitely now think, like Loch Ness, there may be prehistoric creatures at the bottoms of several bodies of water around the world.

When the Chickamauga dam was being built on the Tennessee River in the 1930's, divers regularly quit because the catfish laying up against the dam wall were bigger than they were and capable of swallowing a person, and some became aggressive and attacked them. Lots of big fish in the dark holes of the Tennessee River.

Every dam over 50 feet long has people claiming there are giant catfish at the bottom of them. I've only seen actual proof of that at one dam near Paducah, Kentucky, which was the skull of one hanging on the wall. That skull was big enough to go around my shoulders (6'3", 200 lbs.) without touching, so that was a big catfish.

I love the ignorance of the general public as to how biology works. Hybridization requires that both species are either from the same genus or from very closely related genuses. Triploid Grass Carp, the fish introduced to control Hydrilla in Lake Norman, might develop the ability to reproduce (unlikely) but they will not hybridize with any other species in the lake either introduced or native. It is unlikely that any of the introduced fish or native fish would hybridize outside of a lab period, other than sunfish (bluegill, green sunfish, pumpkin seed, red eared sunfish "shellcrackers"). Also the coolant water from the nuclear plant never comes into contact with any actual radioactive material. The nuclear fuel rods heat water in a sealed system that is cooled by the water pulled from the lake, this "coolant" water is heated sufficiently to produce steam that then spins the turbines that generate electricity. After the steam has spun the turbines it cools further and is released back into the lake.

Evolution always finds a way, where I live we have a place that had tiger muskie introduced,I never caught one but don't fish it much It's kinda far for me but I have seen pictures of people catching pretty small ones and huge ones, and they only stocked them a couple times about 7 years ago so if they can't reproduce their shouldn't be small ones, but Evolution will always find a way.

Being in water/forest with a large creature which can not identify is outright terrifying, it doesn't even need to be a monster, it can be a regular creature partly visible or maybe a bit larger than usual...

A lot of people think it's easy to just flip out your phone but any time something new or unusual happens, your brain is still processing what you just saw. You are NOT attentive nor conditioned to make action. Easier said than done. Example: if you are a ghost investigator, you are conditioned to bring equipment and "prepared' to the outcome of recording.
