Jimmy Hoffa's disappearance is one of the great crimes of the century. Despite a massive Federal investigation spanning 4 decades and hundreds of suspects, only the general contours of the crime are known. In the American mythology Hoffa is both hero and villain; a self-made man who ran the nation's largest union and was so beloved by the rank and file Teamsters he represented that they supported him as union president even as he served time in prison. Hoffa's name is synonymous with corruption thanks to Bobby Kennedy's campaign against him, but the truth is much more complex. Hoffa's glory years coincided with the golden age of the Union movement and the American economy; he also was enmeshed in the Machiavellian world of organized crime. "Killing Jimmy Hoffa" tells the whole story for the first time, using exclusive interviews, never before seen news footage and photographs, and revealing the real story of the day he died

Kathleen Cabot What are you meaning? If I sold you a big juicy burger which can help to prevent hunger, starvation and death. Why would I not be your friend? Admittedly you are likely right. But what makes you right? Isn't it true that such is likly true because the law makes it true? The business may have done you a favour. But the law determins the favour an act of business for their purpose of taxation and so the business favour is no longer a friendly kind act but just something done for money devoid of any good except as business for money.

@Ted Wilson So you believe government is not a form of organized crime and prefer to support that over those who rebel against its suppressive control? Cool. Keep drinkin' the Kook-Aid, it's workin' for ya! So what if Hoffa was crooked? Which politician can you name who isn't? For that matter, name me a bank or corporate CEO who isn't. At least Hoffa did work successfully to improve the working conditions for transport workers. Name a politician that's worked hard and succeeded to improve the situation of lower and middle class people. So what's your point about Hoffa being crooked, again? The whole world, at least those seeking and reeling power, is crooked. Try keeping up.

My old bather told me a story of his uncle being shot dead in his backyard, in west Detroit in the 70s. His murder is still unsolved but he supposedly had dealings with the mob. I've probably watched it at least twenty times and even bought it on Vudu to add to my other favorites. I've been obsessed with learning about Hoffa since I was a kid and this documentary really gets to the nuts and bolts of who Hoffa was. He wasn't a saint and he wasn't a sinner. I grew up in aSteel working family in Pittsburgh. I'm now 70. My father and uncles loved Hoffa; they were all steelworkers - Teamsters. Actually, the movie with Jack Nickolson - Hoffa - was filmed in Pittsburgh. The reason, I think,that union members, like my dad, revered Hoffa was because brought the labor movement to the USA. Hoffa was born in 1914 (?). My dad was born in '20. Hoffa let power go to his head. He was not "schooled" but smart. He got into more than he bargained for. But "absolute power corrupts absolutely." He couldn't let go of the power after his pardon by Nixon. Interesting video on Hoffa. Guess NJ can stop looking for Hoffa under the goal line in the Meadowlands. When you lose, it's best to accept your defeat and walk away rather than like the need for your former power to consume you.

@Savage Cabbage That's not actually the real reason. The reason people enjoy history is because you and i can look upon it with judgemental eyes. It's a simple case of "obvious in hindsight" You have the full story and facts after the event. If we knew what was going to happen in the future you can be sure that would also be as equally interesting. But we don't. So we dwell in the past. We, humans, are excellent at dwelling (although we rarely learn lessons from past mistakes.) This is a perfect example of it.
@ebz3001
@ebz3001 4 года назад
the past is always an outline for the future. The best War Generals + soldiers + heavy weights who made real change were ALWAYS STUDENTS OF HISTORY. Mel Gibson in "The Patriot" year 2000, took out groups of 20-30 men w/ himself and 2 underage sons. How? Guerilla Warfare aka ... balls out, freestyle, take hits hide, take hits, hide. Against that dumb line up and get killed while I take 2 minutes to reload by rifle? him and 2 middle schoolers took out entire regimines. You think they were the 1st to employ that method? They either came up w/ it themselves... or had had they're own soldiers pieced up by Native American's who took them apart like a wet paper bag with 3 Indians, 2 horses, bow and arrows and some hatchets... What you don't know will kill you when History is concerned.

Lived in that area most of my life and finding Hoffa's body is a well known joke. The local newspaper, The Oakland Press, would run a story every year on the anniversary of his disappearance and the media in Detroit would fall over themselves when anything came up like 1:15:43 which happened at least once a year over nothing.

Soon as I heard the voice and accent style as it should be for these types of episodes. Could sit here all day just listening. Also why I love Sopranos. Tue accents is awesome. Glad I found this place again. Watching episodes on Hoffa.

@josephsierzengaIV
@josephsierzengaIV 2 года назад
Korshak was an interesting guy… A lawyer who was in Tony Accardo’s inner circle. Put a lot of things together for the Outfit. But in terms of Jimmy Hoffa and his demise I don’t think Korshak was involved. It would be likely that he was a liaison for Accardo and the Outfit to Hoffa and the Teamsters. Accardo probably green-lighted the Hoffa hit but it really was the Genovese and Detroit Partnership who called it, orchestrated it and then carried it out.

Watching from near STL MO!! It's a well known fact that the Detroit Partnership and the Chicago Outfit were allied with our STL Mob, which was predominantly the Giordano Crime Family and the Cuckoo Gang, headed up by the Syrian "Horseshoe" Jimmy Michaels. Matter of fact, the person who succeeded Tony G as boss of the STL Mob was his nephew, Mike Trupiano, who came here from Detroit. Great documentary. I do wish someone would make a doc or movie of the Giordano era of the STL Mob though. Anyone who cares to look into it, it's very interesting!! It was Anthony "Tony G" Giordano who actually declared STL as independent from the KC Family. Anyway... Again, great piece of work!!
