1:38 ish the discussion on Blood Raven and the Ironborn issue in the north...seems to me he's grooming Egg and Dunc to go do the job in the north rather than just ignoring it. To me theres an undertone through all this that Blooraven is training Egg to be the future king as well as firefighting the current issues. Later we see a similar thing with Danny, Jon and FAegon all being groomed and led by people trying to shape and control their ideal future ruler.

just to add a little bit to the house Peake rant, and you may know this, I can't remember if you mentioned it ever in passing or not, so apologies for a likely redundancy but just in case -- they are a rather blatant reference to Gormenghast, which is written by Mervyn Peake, their current lord is called Titus, like the main character of the novels, and here in Dunk & Egg we even have a Gormon Peake. Last castle of the Peakes is Starpike, while Steerpike is another central character in the novel. And a world of ice and fire mentiones a bastard brother of a Lord Peake called Mervyn Flowers. I think its just a fun callout, idk if the book or house Peake contributes much to the understanding of the ASOIAF plot/lore.

I missed so much of this just listening to the audiobook once at work. It didn't do it justice. Now that I've started writing myself I really appreciate all the playful word games and subtle things going on under the surface that you hope people will pick up on.

I loved the analysis of how poor the disguise of "John the Fiddler" and company was.

I’m very surprised that when talking about what the colors of Egg’s dragon egg could represent that they didn’t mention that the white and green could signify the Tragedy at Summerhall, with the green symbolizing Wildfire and the white either being the white of the walls themselves, the birth or Rhaegar and the general “rebirth” and continuation of both the line & Aegon’s prophecy, culminating in TPtwP. (On top of all of the other green-sea / green-magic symbolism Dave & Tim already touched upon.)

I watched that video Tim mentioned about the early draft missing pages regarding Maelys the Monstrous, and I would love to hear your take, Dave, on the symbolism of the 9 wannabe kings picking apples from the apple tree. I listened to it thinking "food of the gods" because I'm sure that's what you would say. I want the Dave Take.

so sorry if youve mentioned this before and im just forgetting but do u think all the times dunk says eggs mouth will get him killed one day is like foreshadowing egg potentially having to give the order to extinguish the flames at summerhall with the sand pit and maybe he and dunk will be directly under it when that happens like a moment when they lock eyes and dunk like nods his approval to die with his king and egg calls to end the fire

Am I the only one who thinks it's strange that the Targaryen sigil seems less apt for their house than the Blackfyre sigil? 'cause a black dragon upon a field of fire seems more representative than the obverse. quite separately: Are the Reynes and Casterlys related? More specifically, are the Reynes a cadet branch of Casterly or vice versa? I just wonder whether Lann the Clever was a Reyne and not a Casterly; was watching one of your videos yesterday, can't remember which, and it made me think. Also, one might think that Reynes (reigns) would rank higher than Casterlys (castellans), so Idk... any thoughts on this? There are few lion sigils and they all seem to interact with one another, so I only wonder if it was cadet branch politics.

Tim comparing Azor Ahai to a Jesus like figure is very interesting. GWT suggested that the last hero legend from the different cultures could represent completely different individuals. I have always thought of Azor Ahai as multiple people and the Jesus comparison supports that theory. There are real world theories that the stories of Jesus Christ are an amalgamation of multiple different prophets working different “miracles” throughout the ancient world. I will have to do more thinking on how multiple Azor Ahai(s?) affects Aegon’s prophecy

I've read the dunk n egg novels , and I've read what's published of the a.g.o.t. series ,,, am I missing any?

I think it would actually be more interesting if Egg really did manage to hatch an egg at Summerhall before the sand trap got triggered. Daenaerys is interesting but she just feels like too much of the stereotypical Chosen One at times. Learning that the rest of the Targaryens actually did manage to crack open that mystery before her only for their new dragons to be snuffed out moments later would add a lot more realism to the story and a lot more gravity to the events at Summerhall.

Things I noticed: egg's increasing desire to use his privilege, and dunk's increasing contempt that people are still arguing over blackfyres. love the maester aemon theory. can't wait for the hammer of the waters vid! i do have a question. do you have a video on why you think the wildlings were left "outside" the wall, despite jorumun helping with at least the Night's King (jorumun always seems to parallel howland reed with his "horn" helping Ned at the tower of joy)? It seems cruel but also like it's key to what happened.

One thing I love about this read through is that we know the outcome and play up and analyze The Fiddler and Plumm for who they truly are. “I’d like to cross swords with you.” Etc. stoked for next week. ❤

I haven't seen 'Fiddler on the Roof' in a long long time. My adhd demanded that I go listen to all the songs from it before coming back to finish this video. 😂 I grew up in a crazy religious house and for some reason the classic musicals and a bunch of the old black and white movies were considered appropriate media. 😭 😂

I was listening to this on a long drive. These read alongs with you and Tim are so so so good I have a couple of ideas (sorry if I’m late to the party) So they’re heading north. That’s established and repeated so we are constantly thinking “North” They’re heading to White castle - Wight castle? What’s the wight castle The night fort 🎉 The old man’s head above the gate was SCREAMING black gate to me. Also when they meet Maynard Plum the hedge knight describes Bloodraven as “Worm knawing at the roots” which is Odin and Idracil - maybe even the dragon under winterfell? The Midges and the fire - is this maybe Mel burning Shireen? Amazing video❤ 🎉
