Hii …im an anglo indian. My grandfather father was British and married my granny . An INDIAN. Derek o’brien is my uncle. Love your videos 👍🏻 keep it up
I remember Derek. We went to school together at St. Xavier's Kolkata, as did his brother, Barry. As I was involved in quizzing, I also got to know Neil O'Brien rather well.
@@kishorisahoo6088 ethnicity is different from nationality, our ancestors were british because they held british citizenship but we anglo indians are british/anglo by ethnicity alone. Ethnicity is your racial background and no matter what your nationality doesn't change that background.
Dude shes just his girlfriend idk why us guys are so narrow minded thinking every gf bf gonna marry . Let them take their time . If they do have a child I would be happy
I know of an Anglo Indian friend who was working in the Gulf in a hotel in the 80s. A British lady said that in India there is so much poverty that beggars keep touching, when begging money. This friend gave a fitting reply, "We have to thank the Britishers for that". He took up for India.
Yes Sir congratulations Sir for 1M+ followers on Twitter🎉 🎉🎉 Sir you didn't made any videos based on BAMCEF which is biggest organization for SC, ST, OBC and Minority, made for giving their rights.
Hello sir great to know that you are an anglo indian. I am Michael from India and also an anglo indian . It will be greatly appreciated if people like you could initiate try to help the anglo indians that are left back here. Not asking for personal financial help but if a group of you could startup a small business where all anglo Indians could be employed. Here the govt of India does nothing for the community and so this humble request to you and my people abroad. Regards Michael
Even I am Anglo Indian My great grandfather was a Briton and my great grandmother was an Indian. Thank you Dhruv for telling the history of my community

my great grandfather was from Ireland then part of the UK. He came here as a laborer in around 1912. He married an Indian then my father and grandfather too married Indians.
Means british did not marry Portuguese and French because they were different Christians but they were ready to marry Indian women who were hindu not even Christian ?? How is that
@@ElectricGuitarStyles...An Anglo Indian lady precisely of your community was so dear to me like my foster mom during my college days. She is no more. NOSTALGIA 🤔 I am a hindu....but always have in my heart a very special place for Anglos.
@@mohanramasamy-so4lv happy to know about it brother. Childhood was great during 90’s ...my Hindu, Sikh brothers used to come my house for English tuition and I used to go to their house for Hindi tuition. Those were some good times.
My father was working in railways and we were living in railway colony. So I had a lot of opportunity to mingle with Anglo Indian community A peaceful, well behaved community, retaining it's own culture, language, dress , religion etc. I loved the community, and indebted to them for all the help I received from them. Most of community members have migrated to Australia and other countries and I hardly get a chance to meet them now.I really miss them . But old memories of my childhood association keeps coming every now and then.
Oh Damn I am an ISC and an ex-ICSE student and i didn't know that it was founded by Anglo-Indians !! EDIT-Oooooo ma gu turrru lobb to y'all ...didn't expect my comment to boom like this..
Diversity is gifted to us by our rich history but I wish there was more tolerance and acceptance among people. I don't think minorities feel alright at present
@Hare Krishna Hare ram I get it can't try teaching secularism to 'hare Krishna hare ham' that's literally ur priority before your real name. I mean that's your choice I should shut up 🤐✌
@@maahi8070 which minority you're referring here? Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Baha'i etc are highly respected here and that peaceful community is the 2nd largest majority not a minority
@Hare Krishna Hare ram nothing wrong just realized shouldn't have said that it should be your choice I'm sry. Got hyper cause I didn't much understand what do u mean by "hilarious " on my simple comment. I think it's gonna be a mess cause our ideologies don't meet(I assume)
@@notevencalm well I cannot deny they are highly respected people in India especially in my family which is kind of a mixture of most of them but can we talk specifically about muslims here . I am 15 nd I was pissed off when my civics teacher asked if there was a Muslim in the class , then she teaches accordingly isn't that mess up? My parents who claim to be broad minded doesn't allowed me with muslim boys , isn't that too messed up!?

The Anglo Indian teachers are an exceptional class. Their mannerisms and affection towards the children is incomparable because they leave the politics of class, community, caste and religion aside. Cheers to the Anglo Indians who taught our children.
That's not true we had a quacky librarian in school ,she always used to poke our pronounciation and accent in English and she treated kids very badly and she always talked badly to parents whose English was not so good...and I am from Kolkata
very informative video...your history related videos are highly educative especially for younger generation who have been taught distorted version of history and hence are ignorant of the authentic history of our great land... would appreciate more such videos, thanks very much Dhruv.

I'm an Anglo-Indian. My dad is Anglo and mom is of Portuguese-Dutch descent. You have covered everything very well except when you said there are just 296 Anglo-Indians in India. The place where I live is an Anglo-Indian settlement and there should be about 80 Anglo Indian families in my city. Apart from that, your video was very informative. Thank for doing this video.
I m from kharagpur west bengal...before independence it was a british colony....here there are more than 100' s of bungalows where railway british officers stays ..one school is there which was earlier known as european school here are lots of british churches...and still here are many anglo indian... Ruskin Bond was born as a pure British from both English parents; however, his mother had later married a Punjabi Indian after getting divorced from his father. Even if he was sent to England after independance for studies and for spending rest of his life there more securely as his mother believed, his unconditional love and attachment for his own country had brought him back to India after three years of struggle there in England. His life itself is very inspiring.
Wonderful description of events. Thank you for sharing. I wrote book "The Last Anglo-Indians" spurred by my ancestor's story in India. My mother arrived in America soon after Indian Independence. Today, my mother is considered one of the oldest Anglo-Indians in America (in her mid 90s). Please let me know if you would like to interview her for your next video.
very interesting, i would love to know more about your stories, let me know if you ever come to Niagara Falls, Canada or Udaipur, India. would love to meet you :)
My grandparents were Anglo-Indian. We still have family in Chennai and Bangalore. Estimated there are 350 - 500,000 Anglos dotted across India. Most have blended into modern life with ease.
Very interesting story. We never learnt about them in our schools. First time I heard about Anglo-Indians is when I found out Russell Peters (comedian) is an anglo - Indian. Thanks for the informative video.

700 yrs and 200 yrs ruled by Mughels & Europeans In India after Got India independence no kathra for majority religion. Now 2014 . after New government no issue . Now "kathra' for majority communities it is 100%political .
Thanks Dhruv for bringing out such a wonderful story of my Anglo-Indian Community.Since 1971 the All India Census was compiled only based under Heads of Religion but in 2011 ,a fraction of 296 Anglo-Indians were erroneously complied under the head of a non-existent-"Anglo-Indian Religion",instead of compiling this 296 with the 4 Lakhs who were enumerated under the Christian Religion in the same 2011 Census.
Indian history textbooks are damn shitty & boring Our teachers make it feel more boring Dhruv's presentation skills are so well that we can learn a lot at the same time But we also need to be aware which video is propaganda wise & which one is educational Yet his presentation skills are awesome so I watch all his videos even I'm a BJP supporter Hope you all got it 🙃
I studied in La Martiniere College, we have our history dating back to 1800’s In 1940’s Indians were allowed to study after British went. We have most our teachers who are Anglo Indians & till date a lot of students study who are Anglo Indian. Proud to be a Martinian ❤
Had many anglo indian teachers and they were amazing. When you thought of the future in those days there was so much hope . Nowadays it's only full of anxiety and problems.
Anglo Indians are one of the best communities in India . Most of them are extremely good teachers especially good at teaching English . When I was in 3rd standard (2006) , our Anglo Indian school incharge helped me a lot in speaking English fluently without any fear and hesitation . Whereas other teachers made me nervous and broke my confidence even speaking my mother tounge . She completely reformed education in our school . She started speaking and personality development classes in schools and abolished harsh punishments in schools . However after one year she left and became principal in another reputated school. This video reminded me of her as she was the first Anglo Indian in my life whom I met personally .
I went to a convent school in Jhansi, where a lot of my school teachers and classmates were Anglo indians in late 90s, Reminds of me the days when their grannies would come to drop them off to school in skirts and wait till assembly chatting in English a contrast from out dadis in sarees and Bundelkhandi, most of them would have left us by now, god bless them :)
My favourite teacher was an Anglo Indian. She single handedly improved my English. I had Anglo friends. Many of whom left india after 10th. Studied in boys Christian school. Yeah they had a tough image about them.
hi thank you for this video . I am HENRY OSCAR BEETON. my great great grandfathers came to India in 1880 as a soldier in Madras and he got married to a local . most of his decent after independence moved to UK and Australia. But my father stayed in india so am I . and I am proud of my being Indian.
Dhruv did not tell us in the video but the British promoted Marriage between British Male and Indian Female because Females often would have to convert to Christianity. This was a way of Evangelism.
@@princejha8060 you don't always need one common language to unite people in this world... the language of love, appreciation, empathy, kindness and patriotism works magic. Today someone else's identity and rights are at stake, tomorrow.. it might be ours.. you never know what future holds for us and our future generations. These things are serious issues if one think so.
