In today's video, we talk about Chun Li and the possibility that she has a secret husband. #streetfighter #chunli #streetfighter6 Support my show on Patreon : www.patreon.co... Watch My Chun Li Deep Dive • The History of Chun Li...
@@Chris-dt5fg Keep in mind, Capcom is aware of how appealing Chun-Li is to male fans. So they will not give her a love interest. If they do, it will ruin the longevity of her appeal. It’s important to know that Capcom is aware. And will not make such risky decisions. They are not like SNK.
Chun Li's "husband" is Akiman himself! The very first concept art of Chun Li (originally named Zhi Li from 1988 - 1990) looked more like Tong Pooh from Strider Hiryu. But Akiman rejected it saying she's "not sexy enough", and tweaked her appearance into looking more like his ideal woman. He's into wrestler chicks with lots of meat on their leg-bones, hence the birth of Chun Li. He or the co-creator also seems to be into blondes like I am! Hence the creations of Jessica Haggar, Eliza Masters, Julia Guile, Maki Genryusai, Cammy White, Nanakawa "Rainbow" Mika, Karin Kanzuki, (edit: The Shopgirl from Forgotten Worlds), etc.
@@xxromanovaxx6682 Most Japanese men do, according to a survey. If a Pamela Anderson looking chick came to Japan, the first thing they would do in an instant is treat her like a queen.
It’s not canon. The ending was a what-if ending and Capcom’s main story ignores it. You’re fine. Her single girl ending from the OG SF2 is the only thing canon.
@@sridrawings4510Tbf having both ryu and ken would be way less interesting gameplay ways than ryu and chun li especially because most of the time akuma is also there
@@sridrawings4510 most crossovers also have akuma so we would have 3 characters that play very similar don’t get me wrong though I love Ken I probably like him more than ryu and akuma but from a gameplay perspective it makes sense to not have him and instead get chun li . I’m not saying he couldn’t get in a crossover though as long as akuma isn’t in it .
Well Capcom rejected her creator’s idea. Yasuda was only a character designer. Not a writer. And Capcom has already established her lore. So he has no say of her character. Plus he doesn’t work for Capcom anymore anyway.
I've always thought of her of being "all business,no games" kind of gal. In the ending of the first versions of SFII , after avenging her father's death , she said she now could be "a regular girl" and appears in a more casual look...And later in SSF II ending it's the same idea but more explicit by having her on a date with some guy. But what I never liked is her being paired with Ryu,Ken or even Guile implied in the American cartoon and JCV movie. I never thought Capcom left her relationship status vague on purpose but makes sense, I can't really see her with any of the game characters other than maybe Charlie Nash, who had at least a closer relationship albeit only professional.
Oh please. Him and chun li are more like besties 👯. The same is said well to Guile. Ryu lives secluded. Isolated from society. Guile’s a family man. And Ken is a rich guy with a wife and son.
@@CevicheGato Guile has a Wife and Kids, Ryu and Chun-Li have neither, the two are Capcom's First Man and Lady which is why they're always used more prominently than any other Capcom Duo. Ryu isn't merely isolated from society, he is a simple man that seeks a peaceful life, but he's always ready to protect the world or connect with his friends when it comes down to it. He just doesn't have any experience due to his upbringing.
Truthfully, he most likely tried to give her a husband but it was shot down. Nearly all of her old endings deal with her living a normal girl's life, until the crossover games hit, then it just ignored her home life. BUT she did go on a date with Charlie during an undercover operation [and according to all about Capcom and the SF Fight book back in the late 90's (by "fight book" I think it was like a history guide that had a weird name similar to that), she may have had a crush on Charlie]. Capcom did flirt with the idea. In older promotional and secondary external media of SF, Chun Li was more friendly with certain fighters than others. There is one ex-media, where it was a documentary about agriculture in Japan; when she saw Ken she was over-the-moon happy to see him, ran to him, hugged him and was super handsy, and when she acknowledged Ryu (who was standing right next to him)-- she just gave a wave. Then the external American media of her and Guile, and the Japanese external media of her playfulness with Guile and her "close connection" with him (remember she even coped a feel on Guile). Let's not forget that Dudley at least on two occasions asked Chun Li out (in either SF4, SFxT, or SF3S) and she turned him down. Why is the external media important; because this is SF-- 90% of its lore is cherry picked from external media. But now you can openly flirt with Chun Li in SF6 World tour mode, and she can [what it seems to be] flirt as well, so maybe Capcom is loosening their chastity grip on her again, in favor to push in a new female face of the series. It needs to happen; she's 55 now and in lore she's in her mid or late thirties. Time for some Spring babies... yeeeeaaaaahhhh.
Indeed, a lot of the official lore was developed in the Udon comics in the early 2000 decade when the franchise was dormant and Capcom took a huge lot of it as canon.Even having their artist do art for the character's endings in some game. I had no idea Dudley had a crush on Chun-Li, I thought I read somewhere he was gay. The other ship,or rather "toxic obsession", is Vega(Claw) on Chun-Li, several media has him positively obsessed with her beauty, which is probably the closest to love a sick bastard like him can feel 😅.
@@Shinmsl actually Udon is its own thing. Within their debut issue, they changed foundational things of SF. To give them credit, Udon is good at actually using tidbits from old SF Guides to place in their comics. But I have yet to see Capcom pull from Udon. To be real most of SF lore is pulled from anime manga, old action movies, dojins, porn and cartoons. A lot of the costumes in SF4 have odd resemblance to ones in the old American cartoon. The idea of Ryu losing to Sagat during SF2 was first introduced in "The Final Fight" and that was inspired by trivia cards of SF2 that claim Guile defeated Bison. Something that would be addressed in (I think) Brady Games guide of vanilla SF4. This is important 'cause Sagat quotes the promise that's in the manga. Another example is how M.Bison's powers changed to fit the movie and then his source changed to fit the anime. Yeah, Vega was and is a perv. But yeah, I haven't seen them use anything from Udon-- perhaps in the future Capcom will let Alex's favorite food be hotdogs, or acknowledge that Ken is also a t.v. star. Hell, Ken has online classes which was a joke from Capcom X Namco.
Capcom says she is just friends with the male cast. Also there is no in-canon evidence she went on a date with Charlie. That’s just more speculation, but it was never officially deemed canon by Capcom. So Capcom isn’t keen on giving her a love interest as they want her appeal to stay intact.
Chun-li, like Ryu, strikes me as the kind of person that only tolerates fame because she really likes to fight, plus she’s protective and an agent. So I could see her going through great lengths to ensure her public and private life stayed separate
Her being a secret agent I can see her having a hidden family both for their protection and to do exactly what is mentioned about pop idols but for video game characters Capcom should really give the legacy characters a DLC/season of time traveling maybe seeing the main world is Metro City throw in the classic cast of Final Fight and given a choice of who to team up with
It’s non-canon. Calm down. Yasuda doesn’t have a say in Chun-Li’s character anymore because he no longer works for Capcom. Capcom rejected his idea multiple times.
Of what I know, chun Li isn't married because of the M Bison, but now that he is "dead," maybe can find someone, and in some of the games they mention that she's interest on Ryu
There is a never-ending line of men who would totally and completely simp for this woman. Voluntarily. Pretty sure I would, she is a goddess. Especially in the alpha outfit
It’s not canon. Relax. Capcom never allowed Yasuda’s opinion to be canon to the main lore. Yasuda was only a character designer. Not a writer. And he doesn’t work for Capcom anymore. That ending was a what-if ending. Because her pre-SFIV story takes after her default ending of vanilla SF2. So all her endings in later editions of SF2 are non-canon.
I've played the games, I don't think it was a husband but likely a guy she was just dating. If she was married, you'd think they'd mention this in the games.
@@thetoondevil They don’t. Because the ending is non-canon. So this never officially happened in the lore. The default ending from vanilla SF2 is confirmed the only canon ending of that game for her and her pre-SFIV story “The Story Of Chun-Li” proves that.
Those endings were non-canon. The only ending that is canon is her default ending from vanilla SF2 as her pre-SFIV story takes right after it. You can look it up on RU-vid or on any source. Remember, Capcom doesn’t want her to have a love interest. They’ve established her lore that way for a reason. She isn’t even the romantic type. And giving her lifestyle in SF6, she doesn’t have time to think about that. She is fully committed to her lifestyle of being a kung fu, master, raising orphan children and teaching the community martial arts. Even after retirement from interpol, she is still living a busy life and she is happy with what she has. She is a workaholic after all, and she openly admits it in her SF6 arcade ending.
Ryu or bust. If Capcom still had some sense for business, that would be slam dunk. But this is the game developer studio/Company that blue balls their main male. Heroes.😂 Being a main character in a Capcom game is a curse (4 ever single status)
18:48 so is akuma gonna pop in or… Also I’ve seen the chun li outfit nasu is talking about and all I gotta say is, it’s definitely a sight to see… Also I definitely love the arcade story because in guile’s his daughter is a fan of Dee Jay. There is some others that are hilarious but I think you should experience it yourself.
That’s her default ending from vanilla SF2. which is the only one that’s canon. Because her pre-SFIV story takes right after it. It’s called The Story Of Chun-Li.
I’d like to think her secret husband is a stay at home one who cooks and cleans and takes care of her when she gets home. They should make this an anime
Japan is well known for having K-Pop stars becoming incredibly unpopular because they're in a relationship. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if her real relationship was secret, or Cammy, or Juri having e-simps after her feet.
Calm down. It’s not canon. Capcom rejected Yasuda proposal of ever making that canon. He doesn’t have a say in whether Chun-Li has a love interest or not. He doesn’t even work for Capcom anymore. The ending was a “What-if” ending. And Capcom rejected it from the canon.
They didn’t. Capcom rejected Yasuda’s idea of that. That’s why that ending you see was non-canon. Capcom’s official canon lore of the games never mentions this. Her pre-SFIV story takes after her default ending of vanilla SF2.
