I see it this way. link got the hero's clothes when he was as old as the hero of time, oot link was 16-17 years old when he became the hero of time so doesn't that mean that windwaker link is as old as the hero of time therefore he could pick up the master sword?
@Zachary Erickson the only time windwaker link was revealed to be 12 was in super smash bros brawl's trophy menu. Sadly many information about the trophies in that game are wrong and many are uncanon. Since it has been revealed that link was 17 in oot it means that windwaker link was also around the same age as oot link.
I will refer to my reply to the video for my theory as to the explanation for the age thing. Considering your thoughts are somewhat similar to mine, I think you'd be interested in my idea.
Rauru said he was too young to be he “Hero of Time” not that he was too young to wield the master sword. So he was likely too young and physically weak to be able to stop Ganondorf, rather than being unable to use the master sword at all. Or something like that
Yes! I have the same thoughts! I would like to add that if link had to complete the 5 temples, it would be impossible due to the items he cannot have until an adult and some of the ledges would be too high to climb. Link probably would have a hard time trying to even lift the megaton hammer or biggoron sword. (This is assuming that link pulled the sword and 7 years had passed but he's still a child.) There is one problem with link pulling the sword and not time traveling. There are various events in the game where those 7 years needed to pass. I won't give any examples since this reply is already really long. That's all. Thank you for reading all of this.
I was thinking the exact same thing, to be honest, that it was a requirement more linked to being the Hero of Time than to actually wielding the sword itself, possibly also a requirement of not so much age, but maturity (as others have pointed out in other comments), which would explain why OoT Link maybe wouldn't be ready but WW Link would. Then again, in the specific case of WW, the master sword was powered down and Link literally proved himself worthy to the gods before going to claim it
I think the problem was that Link drew the MS too early. Fi intended for Link to leave Kokiri Forest when the Deku Tree died, join the military and become Zelda's knight. Then Ganondorf would launch his attack on Hyrule, Link would collect the three stones from their holders and access the Master Sword WHILE GDORF WAS BUSY WITH WAR, and then confront him as a trained Hero. But the Deku Tree messed up the timeline by giving Link the Kokiri emerald instead of holding on to it like he was supposed to. This lead to Link going to get the other two, and then being at the castle gates while Zelda was escaping, so she stupidly threw the ocarina at him. Pretty sure Fi was facepalming the entire time.
They were likely trying to make that point in the cutscene just before you get the Ocarina of Time where Ganondorf on horseback basically just swats him away like a fly.
I think once he is 13 or a teenager(the age of puberty) he is able to pull the master sword. I remember having to get 13 heart containers in breath of the wild to be able to pull the master sword. 13 is the important number here, but just because he can pull the master sword at age 13 does not mean he is going to. Just because he is physically able to pull the master sword does not mean he is truly ready for the challenges, but being older and more mature is a good thing, because a 16 year old is more mature than a 13 year old, even if both of them hit puberty. There is a reason why teens are teens and fit into this category. Once a person is 20 they are no longer a teen.
It’s possible Fi decided not to do a repeat of the OOT warp for BoTW link when he drew the sword and just let him train with it in its unpowered state (30 base damage non glowy form), only unlocking the blades true power when a direct source of Ganon’s Malice is nearby
Well breath of the wild is the first time the mastersword was not in the pedestal of time. It might only have that function if the mastersword is working and pulled from the pedestal of time.
@@RFDN0 Maybe, after all it’s only when in that pedestal dose it act as a key to the sacred realm. And then after the events of Ocarina of time, the link to the sacred realm was broken? Since TP link wasn’t sent there when he pulled the sword from the pedestal of time. (Probably. I haven’t played TP) It also could be that Raru chose to keep link sealed away in the temple of light until it was the right time to release him according to the prophecy
@@Agent-Ig Well TP Link did enter into a past version of the temple of time. He did this by replacing the master sword back into the pedestal. But we know BOTW link didn't draw the Master sword from the pedestal of time. That is in the temple of time not the Korak forest.
Rauru doesn't want a child soldier. The various spirits and deities of Hyrule don't care. Toddler Link is probably a bad idea though, no matter how adorable that would be.
Is it possible that 12 is the minimum requirement with which to hold the sword, but that the sword understands when the best time to awaken Link would be so as to defeat Gannon? When Link grabbed the sword at 9 years old in OoT, it could have woke him up at 12 but would all the pieces have been put in place for Link's success at that time? Just a thought.
@Zachary Erickson It didn't happen because there was no need for it to happen. Wind Waker Link wasn't under the same position as OoT Link. Rauru specifically states that Link wasn't old enough to be the Hero of Time so he was put to sleep for seven years
Yeah, that makes lots of sense. Link wouldn’t get Epona if the ranch was being fought over, he would have to wait for Bongo Bongo to escape from the bottom of the well, the master carpenters needed to be captured, Volvagia needed to be revived, and who knows what messed up stuff Ganondorf was doing in those years.
That's always been my assumption, that and evil doesn't care how old the hero is so the hero is needed when they're needed so there isn't much of a choice in the heros age.
Problem is that the hero of time seems not to "live" his growth, Navi says "look at you, you are an adult", Link couldnt have gotten more mature just by getting physically older without going through multiple life experience. He is basically a child in an adult body, thats why Zelda sends him back in time so that he can actually live a childhood
I think it's more likely that the sword doesn't have an actual age limit attached to it, but rather just actively judges whether and when each hero is ready to wield it on an individual basis. Young Link from oot was simply not ready/not powerful enough as a child, so it sealed him away for 7 or so years until he was powerful/mature enough. Link from ww was simply powerful enough to wield the master sword at a much younger age than oot link. Most of the time, a Link is ready to wield the sword by the time they are 16 or 17, but ww link happened to be mature enough at a much younger age (much like botw Link if creating a champion is to be believed), and oot Link was simply not ready yet/not powerful enough when he first found the master sword. Also, think about how the sword judges Link in botw. It tests him based on his number of heart containers/how much life force he has. This would imply that it judges a hero worthy based not on how old he is (since he is 117 years old) but on how powerful he is.
My theory for why link in wind wakes is able to wield it is the soreness of the situation, and all of Hyrule is bassicly gone, so I believe that Fi could bend the rules a little bit
We know for a fact that the Master Sword in BOTW is the orginal becouse Zelda (or maybe it was the deku tree i forgot) said they can no longer hear the voice inside. (Aka Fi from skyward sword) Which is the FIRST game in the entire timeline.
Well, in OoT Rauru's quote was "However, you were too young to be the Hero of Time...". Which doesn't mention he wasn't old enough to wield the blade, just that he wasn't ready to be the Hero of Time.
It may be that the Master Sword also takes into account how near the evil is, as well as the lengths the hero will go to obtain his goal if he started out with one and got dragged into the mess with the evil along the way if waiting for the hero to come of age isn't an option.
I always just chalked it up to the fact that the Hero of Time was destined to be the age he was when he defeated ganon. I think it may just depend on the time in which the hero is needed
I think with the wind waker, he’s allowed to use the master sword at his age because he became the hero due to gathering all the triforce pieces himself, not being the goddesses “chosen” hero.
I think that the Heroe of the Wilds having the second Master Sword wouldn't make sense because of Fi been at that sword, so it seems that he wields the true Master Sword
Id say He usually has to be at minimum 16, because of the whole draining the life force test, but he may be able to pull that off early with ample and direct training
You know, I've heard this issue about Link's age and the sage's line in Ocarina a few times, and I guess I interpret it in a very different way. The Legend of Zelda has a lot to do with destiny, people who have some manner of foretelling and how events should play out. What I took Raru to mean is that the time when Link drew the master sword wasn't the time of - well - the Hero of Time. Certain things needed to have happened and be in place for LInk to have gained the power and ability needed to defeat Gannondorf, and that period happened to be 7 years in the future. Raru didn't say he was too young to wield the blade, but that he was too young to be the Hero of Time, i.e. the time wasn't right for the hero to act. I don't know if that makes sense, and maybe I'm forgetting some dialog that specifically mentions the sword needing to be wielded by someone older, but theories that mention this as a consistency problem with the rules of the master sword (such as they are), have always kind of struck me as odd because I'm reading something entirely different in the sage's explanation.
yeah, i agree, especially then considering BOTW and the 100 year sleep. it's kind of a mix of predestination and free choice, there is a "time" for the hero to defeat ganon but when that time isn't a specific pre-planned instance
About Wind Waker Link, one, he passed the trial of the Tower of the Gods, so he's technically approved by the gods being worthy of the master sword, two, his age is literally written in the intro cutscene of the game (at least in my version... french)
Maybe BotW Link could use the Master Sword earlier because it wasn’t time for the Hero yet, like he wasn’t about to face the evil the sword was designed to defeat yet, so it was fine being used in a passive time
I think I can explain the age thing. I think it's Physical Capability, rather than literal age, though in most cases they require them to be 16 in order to get that physical maturity required, whereas Link was raised by a Royal Knight to BE a Royal Knight from an early age, being physically capable of taking out a guardian with a pot lid and taking out a large number of Knights before hitting age 10, and the burden of being the holder of the Master Sword matured his mind fully around 5 or so years too early. Using OoT as a base reference, Young Link was weak, needing a Power Enhancing Wrist Band to get the physical power Adult Link has without the Power Bracelet. Yet by the time the Hero of Wilds was the Young Hero of Time's age, he could beat the ENTIRE Royal Guard single-handedly.
Ten years old, then seventeen years old. Yeah. That makes sense. One guide said he was ten. Then the amiibo came out with Link as the seventeen-year-old he was after seven dark years. Even the amiibo said he was seventeen.
The Link in Twilight Princess had his Hero's Journey as a young seventeen-year-old. Maybe he'd be seventeen throughout the whole story. Midna could be in his age group. The Princess Zelda in Twilight Princess was twenty years old, just three years older. Link was three years younger at seventeen.
True Lion of Hylia Bro just chill he said I think not ITS like you are doing. He wasn’t being pushy and trying to assert his dominance, like you. No one cares.
I’ve always thought him being frozen wasn’t down to the age needed to weld the sword but sages and all knowing he needed to be older to actually have a chance of beating ganondorf in that incarnation.
It is interesting how the two exceptions are also examples of the Master Sword’s power needing to be unlocked. Breath of the Wild Link went through the trial of the sword at 17, so he was of age when the power was fully awakened. As for Wind Waker Link, one possibility is this second Master Sword has different rules. Another is that the trials of awakening/unlocking the sword can get around the age requirement; it’s like taking a test to get out of attending a class.
I'm thinking that the reason why Link in Windwaker was allowed to wield the Master Sword has to do with his situation and his unique position. Maybe up until the era of Ocarina of Time, it really was mandatory for the hero to be 16, simply because that's the ideal age for someone to be trusted with a task as big as sealing Ganon away. However, when Link from OoT did not return to rescue Hyrule, which caused the flooding of Hyrule to occur (definitely a very rash choice on the Goddesses' behalf), the world was desperate for a hero. When Link from Windwaker took the Master Sword, maybe it didn't put him into coma because it was nothing more than the shell of what it was. But by the time Link did power it back up, maybe the Goddesses and the sword itself saw that Link really was capable enough to wield the sword and they were also very desperate for a new hero, so they decided to let the age restriction slip. After all, this Link wasn't chosen by fate. He kinda twisted fate's arm after it let his sister get stolen. Or maybe it really was a different sword like you said~ Sorry for the long paragraph. Just really love your theory videos ^^
The thing that could explain botw link being 12 or 13 when he pulled the sword could be that the sword new that the calamity wouldn't arise until link was 17 so it made an exception, or it could be that Fi chooses if the person is the right age to wield the sword. this is just what I think
I think I figured the master sword age requirement. This is actually not the only age requirement that exists. Although it's not for the master sword, the reasons for the requirement are similar or the same. Zelda 2 has this requirement. Link could not go on his second adventure until he was 16 because only then did the crest of the triforce appeared on link's hand. To quote hyrule historia, "those who wielded the triforce were required to possess the unique characteristic of having been born with a heart free from wickedness." Another quote, "the monarch's magic ensured that a crest would appear upon a worthy person who had been properly raised, once they had reached a certain age and gained enough experience." These requirements could be the same for the hero of time, because of the circumstances hyrule is facing.
Virgin Hero of Time: Is 9, but the Master Sword needs him to be 16 to fight Ganon. The Chad OG Link: Gets a magical sword through grave robbing and kills Ganon at the age of 10.
Did you notice something about the concept art you posted at 5:33? There are multiple Toon Links at different ages. In fact, one piece shows him at three different ages. What this likely means is that Link would have been the normal 16-17 year age when wielding the Master Sword against Ganon, and likewise truly the same age as Young Link in Ocarina of Time when receiving the clothes. At some point this idea was dropped and they stuck with a single Link- apparently the middle one at age 12. However, the script wasn't updated to align with this change so we're left with these two plot holes (the clothes and the sword). But as such it became official that Link could wield the Master Sword at a younger age than originally intended.
You should totally do a parallel video of the incarnations of Zelda ages!!! I would watch the crap outta that! Thanks for all the hard work. Love your videos!
Botw link getting the master sword at 12 or 13 is kinda weird considering in AoC we see a 16 or 17 year old link getting the master sword for the first time
It is possible that the Master Sword’s requirement was based on the age of the hero of the sky. When WW came along, it was so depleted that It had to hard reset when fully restored, and 12 (WW link’s age) is the new requirement from then on as that is now all it has left to refer to.
The Link you play as in Triforce Heros is confirmed to be Link from A Link Between Worlds after his adventure. The other two "players" are considered two other random heros that fit Link's description. So in short, Link is through the eyes of the player and is the same Link from ALBW.
I’m not sure about this but I swear it said that he was too young to be the hero of time meaning that all of the other links probably are able to wield it at a different age. Maybe I am looking at it too literally.
I would have thought Twilight Princess Link would be more like 19 or 20 just because he looks the most mature out of all the incarnations of Link. I also would have thought BotW Link would be older because typically throughout history, boys training to become soldiers were knighted at 21. But then again, Hyrule might have different traditions closer to Japanese culture, where you’re basically considered an adult at 17.
I think it might be a timeline thing as well as a Master Sword thing. All the games from the Child's Timeline seem to get the Master Sword as an 'adult' because that has worked so far for that timeline. Meanwhile in Wind Waker, the Adult Timeline, where due to time-travel shenanigans TO GET AN ADULT LINK there is no Link available when he's needed again, things go very badly. I think that is why the Master Sword in Wind Waker doesn't make Link wait to be any more 'adult' than he is because that WENT BADLY LAST TIME.
Is it maybe just a prophecy sort of thing? Like, The Hero of Time specifically had to be 16 while the rest were just coincidences since there's not a lot of in-game focus on Link's age except in OoT?
My theory: The only reason link had to become 16 in ocarina of time, is that ocarina of times hero's prophecy was a 16 year old would beat ganon. The other links' prophecy doesn't say that they have to be 16, or any age for that matter.
Nice theory , also , Hylia ( I think , sry I'm new to this ) created the prophecy , but she didn't specify ALL the details so maybe is that , the prophecy can change depending on the circumstances on something
@@rodreyes5vb Think of it this way, You are going to the store, and you have to buy a soap and shampoo (horrible example ik), That part is written out, you have to buy a soap and shampoo, the rest is variable as you pointed out. It doesn't matter if the soap is on clearance, or there is a karen who wants the shampoo and won't give it, all that matters is you get the soap and shampoo, and similarly all that ocarina of time link had to do was be 16 and defeat ganon (and some more stuff)
Mini theory: link in breath of the wild may have been younger When he obtained the sword however he wasn’t being called to wield the sword to vanquish darkness immediately, instead maybe the store just saw that he was the most fit to wield it when the time came. Hence the fact he is in possession of the sword but only beings to use it against Ganon at 17.
I believe that the Master Sword determines the hero based on his "potential" and his age may not be an issue for that, but it's just a theory....a game theory.
I think the only reason why OOT Link was sent to the future was for training purposes. From what I recall, in most games, link is shown to have had some training previous to obtaining the master sword, LTTP had his uncle who was a solider, Wind waker had Orca, Twilight had the shade. The only one I can think of who didn't get trained by someone was OOT Link.
From you quoting oot "too young to be the hero of time" key words (hero of time) and when time line split and fan wanted to know what went were it was decided not to put an age issue on the use of the master sword. But the storyline effect of that is different age heros can use the sword but they stick really close to the late teens area.
Background: Twenty years after the events of Legend of Zelda Age of Calamity. Calamity Ganon was defeated ushering in an Age of Prosperity (campaign title). Queen Zelda and King Consort Link have led Hyrule in a time of peace. They have a son, Prince Rhoaman, named after King Rhoam who passed the same day as his birth. At the point when the story begins he is nineteen. The heroes are part of a group called The Champions of Hyrule led by Link. Recently there have been Bokoblins sighted at an old ruin as well as sightings of a strange man with red hair and gray skin. The Champions are sent to investigate. The ruins are Zonai ruins, the individual in question goes by the name Phantom Ganon. He controls malice which he uses to corrupt his minions, as well as the sheikah slate pedestals. The Champions soon learn that Phantom Ganon is raising the ruins up from the ground for what they presume to be a war. As they unravel his plan they learn that the ruins are temples to Nayru, Farore, Din, and Demise. The Zonai were the first hylians to inhabit the world. There was a fifth temple that was actually a door way to enter the Sacred Realm. The Zonai once opened this doorway using the Fused Shadow to enter the Sacred Realm, but they were cast out and banished for their wicked ways. Phantom Ganon sought to raise up the fifth temple so that he could enter the Sacred Realm and destroy it. In the final battle against Phantom Ganon, one of the Champions landed a grievous blow against him, tearing away his breastplate, and revealing his flesh. He was not as they expected. His skin was tan, and he had a scar that was infected with malice that they had seen before. In a previous battle, after Link had been defeated, the Champions looked to Prince Rhoaman to pick up the Mastersword. But he could not, for he was corrupted by malice. He revealed a scar on his chest. He had been stabbed by a Yiga assassin who had corrupted him with malice. But, being a child of Zelda, he was born with great power. He used that power to control the malice inside of him. He became Phantom Ganon. After learning this truth, the Champions questioned him. He revealed that his plan to destroy the Sacred Realm would prevent the goddess Hylia from being reincarnated and therefore would stop Demise from being reincarnated, ending the cycle of death. The Champions could not allow him to complete his goal. They killed him, ending his treachery and saving the day. During the epilogue, the Sheikah were escavating the final temple when they discovered a hidden chamber where they found a mummified Ganondorf which they in that moment awakened.
The awakening of Ganondorf is to set up for a future campaign that I am going to start writing where the Champions will learn that Prince Rhoaman was being manipulated by Ganon the whole time. By destroying the Sacred Realm, Hyrule would be thrown into chaos without a goddess to guide them. Zombie King Ganondorf would rise up from his prison and finally rule Hyrule forever.
Great theory! My thought has always been that after the events of ocarina, fi realized that sealing away the hero until he’s ready doesn’t help anyone (ganon breaking into the sacred realm and the timeline split) it just so happens that most of the time the conflict of the games arise around the time any number of links is around the age of 16. If the wind waker master sword is the same sword from ocarina, then a) probably didn’t seal toon link away because it was powered down, or as I said, Fi realized her mistake and didn’t act. Fi technically hadn’t come in contact with a hero since skyward sword so she probably assumed it was best for him to be around the same age as her previous master, until she found her actions made things “worse”.
What if you just have to be at least 12 years old to wield the Sword and in OoT, they just aged up a few years just so he was a bit more wise or something.
wouldnt it be that the age changes based on what the world needs. And with ocarina link it is that a kid couldnt defeat ganondorf at that point, also wind waker link could because that ganon was possibly older or weaker.
Maybe the Goddesses thought that having Link wait until he was older was not a good idea because that is what caused Ganondorf to take over Hyrule. So they decided that he could be any age from 10-17 to avoid Ganon taking over Hyrule again. If you noticed in both OoT Link was asleep for 7 years so that he would grow older and stronger so he could defeat Ganondorf but that resulted in Ganondorf taking over Hyrule while in Breath of the Wild Link is defeated and was taken to the shrine of resurrection where he slept for 100 years leaving Zelda to keep Ganon sealed so that he wouldn't cause anymore destruction and ruin. Link being asleep even for 7 years can be bad for the entire kingdom so maybe the goddesses didn't care how old he was anymore and decided that they needed a Hero. But thats just me.
@@christywakeen229 The OoT thing was specifically because he wasn't old enough to be the Hero of Time. That's all it really is and that's probably mainly due to not being the same age as the original Hero of Time who was the first wielder of the Master Sword which was SS Link. Even then he was off by a year.
I honestly think that the reason for the messed up age and master sword ownerships is that ocorina of time says that he was not the right age to be the hero of TIME, but the other links might not have been needed to be that age and it might just be a coincidence that they wielded the sword at the same age or around the same age
I am guessing the 16 year old rule probably comes from the fact that the original wielder of the sword, SS Link, was 16, and so Fi only allows people old enough to use it based on her previous experience. In the adult timeline she gets to "see" the effect such a hard keeping of this rule does, as it allows Ganon to effectively conquer hyrule for 7 years. It could be that to avoid what happened during Link's seven year sleep happening again in windwaker, Fi opted to allow a fudging of the 16 year old rule. That's my theory. I think she saw what happened to hyrule after, and the toll it took on OoT Link, and she decided to avoid that scenario again, by allowing a younger hero to yield the sword, and stop ganon before he could do too much damage again.
The other 2 links from triforce heroes arent actually links, they just look like one. I forgot their names but they do have official ones Edit: I can't find their names, but maybe their parents were just very optimistic. We know from majoras mask that other characters can be called link aswell
Right. One of the three "Links" is intended to be the Link from A Link Between Worlds. This is confirmed. He's simply being rendered in the Toon artstyle in Tri Force Heroes, just like how we saw OoT Link in the Toon artstyle during The Wind Waker (thanks to that stone statue in Hyrule Castle). Chances are the other two "Links" are descendants from a previous Link, and are part of the same Knights of Hyrule bloodline, but lack the true Spirit of the Hero. That's just my take, though.
well they technically did say that he wasn't old enough to be the Hero of Time so IDK might just be me but maybe the age limit is only on the Hero of Time and none of the others to take take the master sword
Here’s another take on it: it’s not age that determines when the hero can wield the master sword, but a combination of their physical and spiritual strength. It just so happens that the Hero of Time didn’t meet the requisite “power level”, so to speak, until age 16. Maybe that is around the average age that the hero becomes strong enough. The Hero of the Wild seems to have been particularly gifted. It’s noted that he could defeat grown men when he was 4! As such, that’s why he reached a high enough “power level” to use the sword at a younger than average age. This also explains why, despite being 17, the Hero of the Wild CAN’T use the master sword when he first awakens post-calamity. He’s been greatly weakened. It’s explained in game, trying to draw the sword without the required “power level” is fatal. In BotW, you have to regain that level of strength, as represented by your number of hearts. So to sum up, it’s not really age, but overall strength that matters. Most Links probably reach that level at around 16, but BotW shows us that it can happen either before or after that age.
@@perr0263 yeah I caught on to that I don’t think there was any Zelda titles and he said in another video that he grew up playing ocarina of time and other Zelda titles
Um, actually... the green one in TFH is the one the one from aLBW. The blue and red Links have gone by other names, apparently, although they are somehow also canonically just different Links. They both have distinct, non-Link qualities.
I’ve always wondered WHO or WHERE “The Spirit Of The Hero” comes from? Zelda is the reincarnation of the goddess Hylia, Ganon is the reincarnation of the dark god Demise. So who is link the reincarnation of? I found very little on the spirit of the hero. Except some believe skyward sword link is the Spirit of the Hero as he travels back in time to defeat Demise filling in the prophecy, though it’s just a theory and it still blurry. There’s definitely a hero before skyward sword. I hope we get more info or even a game one day
I personally believe there was an original hero before the events of Skyward Sword. Kind of like the manga (which isn’t canon but is still very interesting)
@@aslowsloth2461 well i don’t think he was just chosen by chance, as demise said, the events of the game Made him into ‘a paragon of his kind’. I’d also say that Link being a seemingly normal dude that turns out to be the most courageous individual makes for a more uplifting message than a certain predestined purpose. (I think the time jump in SS is link fulfilling the prophecy)
"the spirit of the hero" just means all the links are descendents of SS link. All the links after him are just carrying on his "spirit" or "will" to the next gen and we see this the most with the direct descendents. You either stumble upon the legend and became the hero by chance (hero of winds, hero of legend, og hero) or are a direct descendant of the previous hero (hero of minish, hero of twilight, hero of trains, hero of light, new hero of Hyrule and lorule). The only oddball being the hero of time. He is somehow not a descended of the 3 links before him and he also didn't stumble upon the legend by chance since it is stated many times that he was destined all along to be the next hero of Hyrule
My theory is the master sword chooses a worthy hero from the hero themselves, not their age. Child link wasn't worthy, so it made him older. But toon link was already worthy at age 12, so he was able to wield it.
I’m thinking it’s more so that Link could pull the master sword, but he just wasn’t ready to wield it. I remember Zelda saying in one of the memories in BOTW something along the lines of ‘can YOU hear the voice within the sword?’ And in all other memories we don’t see the master sword glow until Zelda’s 17th birthday and ‘speaks’ to her. I’m assuming after Link’s 100 year nap he has now met the age requirement, has his 13 hearts, and is finally ready to use the sword to its “fullest” might. Until the DLC is like hey.. your sword could be stronger~
I think the minimum age for the sword is about 12. Oot child link was younger than that so he was aged up by the sword. Being sealed for 7 years specifically may have been either completely by chance or the the sword knew that Ganondorf had gotten the triforce already so it decided to keep him longer that the minimum age so Link would have a stronger more matured body to face Ganon. Kinda like "Well crap, Ganondorf already took over Hyrule. Might as well keep you a bit longer. It's not like he can extra take over Hyrule." Lol
My thought is that the sword just has this as a tool that has only been necessary once. It knew OoT link didnt have a chance as a child and decided he needed to age. The others were generally close to peak shape from an age standpoint, or were just ready. After all, they can all use bows and stuff like that where the hero of time could not. He was aged to be more prepared and theres still a timeline for his defeat, the sword had to have known he didnt match ganondorfs power
Good theory! Though I have my own: OoT Link was put into a slumber because he was too young to be the Hero of *Time* (like Rauru outright states), and because the other Links are heroes of other things, the age requirement isn’t (as) necessary
It’s possible that “old enough to be the hero” is relative. We don’t really know what aspects of physical or mental development the sword would be looking for to determine suitability. That could be why BotW Link could have the sword so much younger. He was a child prodigy after all, besting adults in combat at age 4. Every individual person develops differently and we would first need to know the criterion the Master Sword requires before we can say what constitutes “old enough.”
Here's my theory: before ocarina of time, there was a requirement by the goddesses that the hero has to have reached 16 years of age in order to draw the master sword, but after all the distruction that happens while the hero of time is in slumber, this rule was removed so that nothing like that can ever happen again, and that's how the hero of winds can draw the sword despite only being 12 years old
@@Koi_Swirl In a death battle episode they were talking about Ganondorf fighting with a sword on horseback and also fighting with two swords on foot then questioned if he could fight with two swords on two horsebacks
People seems forget that link in ocarina of time just hold the True master sword potential awake by rauru in the end during the last battle against Ganon , when she glows , it's probably the situation where the sword really chooses when the person is ready or not .
For the whole debacle about the Hero of the Wind's age and how its the hero of legend's age, they could be referring to the hero of the minish and four sword link
9:35 Creating a Champion could also be wrong as in AOC link is 16-17 years old when he obtains the master sword plus creating a champion wasn’t published by Nintendo so there could be a few errors within it
There are also people who say that Link is over 18 in BotW since he's in the Hylian army, which sounds logical since BotW was created with GenZ in mind (Wokeness) and it pretty much gives us a tablet at the beginning of it 😂😂 He'll still be the oldest Link to date because of that shrine of resurrection downtime...
Hey just to clarify, AOC Link is at least over 17 because he's allowed to go to Mt Lanayru (which people under 17 can't do, hence why Zelda never went until the day of the Calamity). So he's already older than OOT Link when taking the Master Sword.
@@samf.s.7731 Actually there are many other reasons to believe that BOTW Link is around 18-19. We already know he's AT LEAST older than 17 since he's allowed to go to the Spring of Wisdom, there is a literal law they talk about in-game dictating this (Lanayru's Decree). And there are many other bits of info from the game and Creating a Champion if you wanna take a look -> lunamaria-fanblogs.tumblr.com/post/651010129058201600/prisiidon-prisiidon-lunamaria-fanblogs
Maybe it's less about age and more about whether Fi or Hylia deems you worthy enough to carry her. Remember Link in Breath of the Wild was a prodigy from the time he was a young child so it's entirely possible that Fi deemed him worthy to be the Hero when he was below the age of 16.
Link might have been able to “wield” the sword in BoTW, but he didn’t really use it in anything other than training before then. Therefore yes, he might be able to hold it but the power might not be unlocked until he turned 16 (17).
I like to think that Link's age is determined by the threat that faces Hyrule. Like in Ocarina of time the threat of Ganon was to great of a threat for a 9 year old to defeat, which is why he had to wait until he was sixteen. However in the windwaker Ganon was not as much as a threat this time, so a 12 year old was able to defeat him. And for the hero of the wild, while he was 13 when he drew the sword, he did not need to use it until he was 17.
Maybe BOTW Link's knight training convinced Fi that he was cool to get the sword earlier. Even if he wasn't an actual knight till later his father was one and he was beating adults at four years old. They probably started training him early. Fi saw this and was like- "Nah you're good," when he popped into the forbidden forest four years early.
I mean it could just be a matter of how it was worded, Rauru specifically said that he was too young to be the Hero of Time, not that he was too young to wield the master sword (of course there could be many other points in the timeline that say you need to be a certain age to wield the master sword, or the original Japanese translation could state so) edit: another thing is that botw Link was wielding the master sword in a supposed 'weakened' state in botw, so it's possible he didn't need to be 16/17 to wield ( it it's implied that this is due to the damage the master sword had taken in the calamity, but the master sword glows when at full power (in botw) and it doesn't glow in any of the memories)
How often is link missing something when he receives the master sword at the wrong age? (I think this is important but like with all theories I could be wrong)
