Everyone always gets so concerned with the relationship between Adam and Jamie, but can we just appreciate the fact that Jamie pulled Adam out of his office for the sole reason of sharing a new piece of knowledge/understanding? He knew and understood exactly what Adam would take from that failed attempt? That is the best kind of working relationship.

2:58 It is true that, if you held your face in exactly the same position for a year or two, your muscles would freeze like that. I'm a paraplegic and I haven't walked in over 10 years. My ankles froze into a neutral position about a year and a half in. I was also told by my physical therapy team not to sleep sitting up too much because I would end up locked in a sitting position. If you don't stretch your muscles, they do freeze.

@@OverMotoren Same with anything, I have goats and if they get attacked by a dog or whatever you need to get them up and about again asap or they freeze up. While they are down you need to work their joints thru the full range of movement a few times every few hours or they (muscles) shrink up and lactic acid builds up which greatly restricts movement to the stage they can't walk. Reversing it can take your time for a couple of days and is painful for the goat. Any more than say, 5 or 6 days down and it's a dead goat (not) walking.

I've been a teacher of physics for 30 years. I have no higher compliment I could give to the Mythbusters concept and Adam and Jamie and the others than to say that I have long wished to have the budget, space, and time to have the lab experiences in physics courses be more like Mythbusters. No greater learning experience could have been given to students than to present something to be tested, have them work out how they would test it, how would they measure it, and how they would analyze the results. It would have been wicked.

@@thegardenofeatin5965 I don't have the source on-hand, but later on one of Adam or Jamie said that the line wasn't actually the snarky dismissal it came across as on-air. Basically, diabetic or not, Adam would get so wrapped up in his work that he would forget to eat. That would affect his blood sugar, which in turn would affect his mood and make him grumpy. So "Adam needs a cookie" was a legitimate suggestion in the sense of "He needs to freakin' eat something, that'll put him in a better mood."

Here's an idea for testing the 'your face will stick that way' myth. I play french horn. I brought my wife to a conference once and she thought it was hilariously great that everyone had 'horn face' as she described it. So I agree that in the long term your face reflects how you use it. It seems plausible to get a bunch of people and see if it's guessable better than chance whether a person is a horn player or not. (You could swap out horn player for other instruments or professions potentially as well.)

Colin Furze here on youtube has made great use of the hydroforming technique mentioned in the answer to the last question. Up to and including using it to build a functional pulse jet.

I think the instrument you were talking about whose manufacturing changed due to that Mythbusters segment is the Hang Drum since it's made out of a metal bubble/hemisphere sort of thing.

The 1' inch thick oval plates Jamie made to make that possible were also used in the episode with the episode: Amphibious Bicycle. Where Adam and Jamie tested one amphibious bicycle made from empty water fountain jugs in a swimming pool (Built by Adam to match a same style which was inspired by a internet image) to then later crossing a lake where Adam and Jamie raced. Jamie used this technique to make a set of 4x water pontoons for his amphibious bicycle. (This is thee only other example of this technique I can think of that was on screen during the run of mythbusters.)

I've seen two different ways to do hydroforming. One was with a pressure washer that can make smaller items really fast but slightly dangerous and another method was with a ordinary hand operated grease gun.

Talking about hydroforming musical instruments - many brass instruments (trumpets, tubas, even saxophones) have been made that way for years.

All the hard work everyone put in for the 2 trucks squish a car myth was worth it. I think of that one as one of the most audacious and spectacular myths (that and the exploding cement truck of course). Thanks guys!

I'm guessing the drum is a Hang drum/Hung drum (I've seen it called both). It fits the description perfectly.

re:"your face will stick" - I visited the Catacombes in paris, where there are miles of skulls stacked floor to ceiling. And my takaway was that it was FASCINATING how expressive the skulls seemed to be. Like some looked happy, some looks grouchy, some looked sad, like it made me wonder if a lot of that wasn't just baked into our anatomy

Seeing "what happened" was way better than seeing "what to do" with statements ranging from, "I reject your reality and substitute my own." to, "Apparently I need a cookie." Holding up a mangled part and saying, "Well, there's your problem." Thoroughly love your present format. Especially leaving politics out of it. I can't avoid it elsewhere and I love that this is an oasis of non-political respite. Really! Thanks!

At 2:00 -- I once read that Abe Lincoln was about to choose a Cabinet member, but all his advisors wanted someone else. "I don't like the way he looks," said Lincoln. "No one can control the way they look!" his advisors responded. "He can by the time he's 40 (years old)" was the explanation.

I know a lady who broke her arm and the break was fairly bad from what I remember. When the cast came off, she wouldn't move the arm at all. Maybe it was painful or just psychological, I'm not sure. Regardless, she walked around with her arm awkwardly up in the air kind of out to the side. A period of time went by and her arm basically started to die. Physicians told her that unless she started using her arm they would end up having to amputate it. That provided enough impetus and she started to use her arm again. I imagine there was significant atrophy but amputation was avoided. The face getting stuck reference made me think of that lady (and her unsettling arm).

On that truck smash... it always bothered me that they didn't link the 2 cables together and put them on a pulley. And running a similar cable between the 2 towtrucks through the pulley so it wouldn't matter if one accelerated a bit quicker than the other.
