so this is a review of inferior xeno, the humans should have just put down a bio weapon on the planet.

Because the unfortunate reality is that the story is relatively well and self contained. There's not many real mysteries outside of stuff that gets explained in deleted scenes or in companion media. And beyond that... the story is... Kind of bland honestly. Basically being a 'save the earth' tree huggy fest that after the first couple of watches gets kind of blatant and noticeable. I didn't notice it when I was 16 when I first watched it, but rewatching it when I I'm thirty it feels like I'm getting beat in the face with the message. Another problem is due to the cut content a *lot* of the nuance was lost in the story that I only found out later. When I was younger I rooted for the Na'vi because 'humans bad.' Nowadays I realize that for humanity to survive at all, they require the unique properties of Unobtanium to make sure the billions of people on earth can survive, thrive and inevitably leave their planet via the space travel unobtanium facilitates. Without that, Humanity stagnates and collapses if not dies out entirely. Humanity is fighting for it's survival which is the final nail in the coffin for such a franchise. When the entire society of your alien race remains unchanged for longer than human history has existed, you really have to consider who is worse off here. The Na'vi are stagnant in the worst possible way. In a few billion years when their star goes supernova, Eywa will not save them and the moon will become their tomb. They will have wasted their unique biology, their unique viewpoint that could have possibly gone towards understanding the universe in a way that humans never could, potentially even to the point of them figuring out a way to survive the heat death of the universe. And we will never know, because their species peaked, their great natural neural network wasn't put towards unraveling the secrets of the universe, it was simply used to enforce a perpetual state of the now. And that, frankly, is depressing. So much strength, so much potential, wasted.

The white man won, get over it, had it been just about any other group of people on the planet, the natives wouldn't have been shoved onto reservations, they would have been exterminated outright to the last man woman and child or taken as slaves like it's happened to countless other groups of people in other countries for millennia. Beyond that, Natives weren't exactly the 'noble savage' trope either, they were killing each other long before European or even viking settlers settled there. They had just as martial a culture as any other human society on this planet, again, they lost, it happened. The only reason you're able to complain about it is that the natives didn't get shot in the back and shoved into a ditch after they lost. Also regardless, It's still tree huggy save the earth bullcrap. The Na'vi are a stagnant culture that will remain a stagnant culture until their sun turns into a red giant and burns the surface of their moon off in a few billion years, if it doesn't just go supernova and yeet them all into the darkness of space. Their civilization will die in barely an eye blink in the timeline of the universe not because they failed but because they never even tried in the first place.

@@ComotoseOnAnime idk, there are other stories/movies with huge well explained and defined universes like Star Wars and Game of Thrones, and they still have a great fanbase that create a lot of content about the universe and characters, create theories, etc. Avatar has basically no fanbase compared to these examples, it really is wasted potential and work, i feel sad for all the workers that created the Na'vi, the animals, the world of Pandora, etc, because nobody cares about it, Avatar is only valued for it's CGI, nothing else.

@@tereza1959 See the thing about Star Wars and Game of Thrones is they have a lot more room for fans to actually create things. What does Star wars have? Like 2-3 dozen alien races that you can delve into, dozens of alien worlds you can delve into, half a dozen major factions you can delve into, tons of ships that you can delve into, etc. Likewise for Game of thrones you have multiple families, multiple warfronts, multiple factions, multiple continents and a vast array of characters with interesting backstories that you can delve into. What does Avatar have? Two primary factions, two worlds, a single type of space ship, a single type of mech/tech, a handful of interesting creatures and locations, etc. It's all incredibly limited in it's scope because it was meant to tell a complete small scale narrative, Whereas Star Wars required all three of the first movies to tell it's overarching, galaxy spanning story, and in doing so it had to create an actual galaxy that felt as alive and organic as Pandora had to. The sequels planned for Avatar are going to be equally as self contained from the looks of it, so while they expand the world that's like saying the prequel trilogy expanded the world, they required another three movies to tell one narrative as well and opened up just that much more universe to be explored whereas the new movies for Avatar they're still just exploring the same moon, some of the same species, and some of the same conflicts. It also doesn't help that almost fifteen years passed between Avatar 1 and 2. Whereas only three years each passed between Starwars 4, 5 and 6. So you have 3 movies within the span of 6 years compared to two within 15 years. The prequel trilogy came out 16 years later, so similar in that regard but then released another 2 movies in the same 6 year timeframe as the first three movies. Game of thrones is a bit different in that it's a long running book and tv series and with those having to present a lot of self contained narrative , you get a lot more content and view points rather than just one single contained narrative. Plus it gives a lot of jumping off points. Say you want to write a fanfiction about Star Wars or Game of Thrones, where could you realistically start off at within those two narratives with a Self-Insert, Crossover character, out of context problem, etc.? There's frankly an enormous amount of places a character could step in and change things. Whereas the narrative timeline of Avatar is relative short and glossed over. Sully's coming into his own as a Na'vi is presented as a montage for petes sake. About the best you could do is, replace Sully, oppose Sully, replace Quaritch, oppose Quaritch, replace one of the Na'vi, replace Eywa, or start off outside of all of that and set up an OC story that takes place nebulously compared to the rest of the narrative, which isn't quite as intuitive as you're pretty much making up *everything* as you go along at that point, Like I said, Avatar's narrative is annoyingly self contained to where a lot of the avenues of easy story creation is kinda locked out. I suppose you could do a cyberpunk story set on Avatar Earth, but that's even further removed from the actually interesting content of the setting.

You don’t come over and completely destroy everything in the name of “survival”. So the Na’vi and everything sacred to them have to die because the humans neglected and abused their own planet? RIght?! His backstory adds so much more depth to his character and really shows how amazing he was to forgive Jake.

in the Australian release the sister was completely cut out - first time I watched the American version the whole story made way more sense, with the school and the characters stories. The school, the shooting, the sister, tsu'tey's death scene were all cut for some reason...

I agree that there could have been way more time for world building. Especially during the middle of the film where Jake is getting trained in the ways of the Omaticaya Clan

@@greninjaguy5264 i agree, theres something else I really like, their tool/ accessory racks. Each member has a simple rack to hold their "clothes", jewelry, tools, etc. A Na'vi is not aloud to craft their own, instead they must be gifted one by another member of the tribe. And since each rack takes awhile to make, and is done by hand, its another way of bonding the tribe 😁

Since the Metkayina are more turquoise in color, and all their other features that makes them different from the Omaticaya, I wonder how they're going to show the other ethnicities in the sequels. Will the Na'vi that live on deserts and plains be darker blue or purple, with dark orange or reddish eyes, and the peoples of the cold forests, grasslands, marshes and mountains be a paler blue? I'm really stoked for the environmental diversity of the next sequels. I imagine that working on a world like this must be so much fun

Not usually a fan of films>>books but I'd also be definitely down to read Avatar as a book series due to the fact that they would uncover so many more details and deleted scenes. They would go more into depth with the main storyline and have features like teaching the native language which I think would be the dopest thing ever!

There are two additional graphic novels that expand on the story and give more world building. :) Highly reccomend you check them out.

@@justafan5179 If you truly want to go down the rabbit hole and get lore technical it’s actually a room-temperature superconductor containing several substances, particularly UBH-310, and is used heavily by humanity for chip production and other tech systems like maglev and space travel, especially the ISV engines. It’s really just the simpleminded corpo who keeps calling it unobtanium. Working scientists and engineers probably wouldn’t use that term in their research because it’s more of a general nickname.

Iqiniso lelo sesi. I would even argue that the whole theme is influenced on what was happening in the past here in Africa. The truth is normally hidden in plain sight for those that are walking with their eyes open. What Hollywood normally deems a time in the future is normally what was happening in the past in Africa. If I ever have enough time I will come back and give detailed feedback about the secret code language layered throughout the movie, or I'll do another video explaining Why the movie Avatar was really about Africa/Kemet. The next one and movies like Aquaman/The Mermaid speak on concepts of living in water that are not foreign to Africa. Today many people bathwasa amadlozi amanzi not because they are being visited by snakes and all these demonic things confused as African spirituality, but because we used to live there, back when mountains were still under water.

I noticed that the clothing that some of the Omatikaya (especially Mo'at) was African and I remember that in the original script there was a direct reference to a tribe in Africa that directly compared them to the Omatikaya but it's been so long since I read the script I can't remember the name. I'm fully expecting one of the clans eventually to be heavily based off at least one of the South American tribes because Cameron went down there and spoke with many different people about the ongoing battles they were going through to protect their land. He's always been an activist and almost stopped making films to go into activism so it wouldn't surprise me if I found out that he also had gone to Africa prior to making Avatar and based the Omatikaya off of the people and their stories. He said once that he is a storyteller, and he wants to make sure those stories are told to as many people as possible. They deserve to be heard!

This was our conclusion: Step 1: Humans engineer a bioweapon that explicitly targets Na'vi. Step 2: They deploy it worldwide to reduce the Na'vi population by 90 percent or more. Step 3: Get the space whale immortality brain juice. Step 4: Start terraforming Pandora to allow for unaided breathing. Step 5: Re-seed the moon with bioengineered life after the terraforming starts causing a mass extinction of native species. Step 6: Colonize Pandora properly. Its resources should be good for hundreds of years, which can be used to discover new star systems for colonization. A simple yet elegant solution to the Na'vi problem, right?
