*Quick note about the World Map shown at **20:18* I drew that map. It is based on the official Map we got all the way back in 2nd Gen (specifically seen in the JP only Hunters Encyclopedia) and on speculations made by GaijinHunter in his "Map of Monster Hunter" Video you can find here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XI_VpUiAjOI.html. Newer locations, such as Kamura, are complete speculation by me. Anything besides the 2nd Gen Map is not "canon", as we haven't gotten an official world map since 2009. But i do believe the map presented in this video is a good intersection of official material and reasonable assumptions, so I will continue to use it going forward.
I wonder if maybe it's used for certain threat levels, or was it confirmed that the shots in the beginning with Volvidon and Basarios were done before the mod came out?
*Jet dragon twists its wings and points the vents at me.* Me: "That´s a bunch of cannons!" Dragon: "No they´re not, they´re just vents for propulsion. Completely harmless. Now stand still."
Some details I really liked: - Explaining Volvidon's farts - Pointing out the lack of Gravios (my own theory is that there just isn't enough room for them to fit into the caves and valleys) - Noting the similarities between the flying pinecones - Connecting the conditions of Crimson Glow and Savage Jo
I've noticed that valstrax is very capable on the ground (at least for a skybound species). For that reason I theorize that they do land often, but perhaps only in places people don't visit often, or are completely inaccessible by land. Maybe valstrax is like an albatross. Flying across vast oceans, and nesting in barren, rocky islands.
Part of the reason I respect the Volvidon is that it is analogous to a really interesting and often underestimated group of animals. In our own real world even power house predators like Jaguars are hesitant to take on Giant Ant Eaters. One swing from their claws can cripple other animals, since in comparison to the near concrete hardness of termite and ant mounds a living creature is made of tissue paper. They are such a bizarre and fascinating group of animals that they fit right in with the setting of Monster Hunter.
Okay I didn't realize Rise was tha close to the old world stuff. I never played the older games so this is more informative than I expected. Also, CG Valstrax scares the Hell out of me when I've done those hunts. Took forever to get the armor and enough for my guns.
Kamura and Yukumo seem to be neighboring areas with them sharing the Flooded Forest and Sandy Plains as close hunting grounds, and the Misty Peaks and Shrine Ruins being bordered by the same kind of high altitude bamboo forest mountain range.
I just started watching these videos today and honestly I’m hooked. I haven’t gotten to play MHRise yet but I will when it releases on console soon. Can’t wait to see more of these as I slay these great beasts
These monster hunter RU-vidrs fascinate me far more than the games themselves. The passion they have is more interesting to me than the actual games because in my opinion there's not much to them in the lore yet these RU-vidrs always find something. It boggles the mind. Rage Gaming, that one Ginger Hunter, the monster hunter tri enthusiast fanboy. All of them find content to do videos on when most of the community just mindlessly hunts.
While i agree the youtubers are great, there lore of monsters and the world in monster hunter as well as their ecology. Where do you think they some of the info? Lol
I agree that these RU-vidrs are good, but I disagree with your stance on the games. All this lore/ecology is in the game, it's on your for not finding it
Personnally, I don't think the Seregios and the Bazelgueuse are that closely related, the Bazelgueuse's scales are more akin to highly unstable secretions and other than the fact that they use projectiles and the chin spike (also present in stuff like the Rathian), there isn't many similarities. In my opinion, the Seregios is closer to the Astalos, considering their overall body shape are more similar and they both posses a specialized headcrest that can move, something that, if I remember correctly, only those two have among all Flying Wyverns. Maybe the muscles that control the bladescales under the skin of the Seregios evolved from the same set of muscles that make Astalos able to produce its electricity, this hypothetical common ancestor having a mobile headcrest, and scales that could move, maybe purely for display purposes...
Love these type of vids so much. I hope it's building up to something like the Fatalis video but about Narwa ans Ibushi. Not that it has to be the same structure, but I would just love a documentary vid about them. Especially since they are one of the few Elder Dragons with a well documented reproductive cycle. For crying out loud that reproduction goal is the story lol
The Blood Orange Bishaten doesn't always spit its fiery saliva onto pyrecones - any time it wields two together, it conserves the fuel for its fire by striking one against the other, using their rough outer shells to ignite one another via friction, like matches. Using its saliva to ignite pyrecones is only used when tossing a singular pyrecone as a grenade, or when it shatters multiple cones on the ground and flies through while spewing fire to ignite them and make a fire trap. There's a number of other unmentioned species of monsters that roam the Sandy Plains as a preferred habitat. Most notably, Barroth calls its muddy oases and caverns home, and Diablos can be seen munching on cacti in the area. Anjanath can also be found here, and frequently run afoul of Diablos in the process - Diablos generally being the winner of such confrontations, although almost never unscathed. I've noticed Seregios aren't very aggressive in the Sandy Plains. Their threat display usually wards off most monsters they could readily kill, and those that would put up a fight - like Diablos - they typically just fly away from. In fact the only monster near Kamura or Elgado I've actually seen a Seregios stand its ground and fight is Gore Magala, and brother, those fights are brief but *vicious* let me tell you. Who wins is a toss-up, but neither of them get away with it unhurt. I've only seen that happen in the Shrine Ruins and Citadel, though, as that's the only places I've seen both Gore Magala and Seregios share an environment. You raise a good parallel between the Crimson Glow Valstrax and the Savage Deviljho, and honestly, I believe it's the same phenomenon. Something either damages their Dragon sac, or causes it go over-activate, creating a positive feedback loop of adrenaline and dragon energy that overwhelms the creature. I think though, that Valstrax handles it a bit better than Deviljho, as I've seen Crimson Glow Valstrax have moments of calm. I even photographed one in the Flooded Forest sitting calmly amidst a pack of Wroggies and next to a sleeping Nargacuga, making no effort to attack either of them - though the Wroggies were certainly panicking and making threat displays towards it. I've never seen a Savage Jho coexist peacefully with anything short of an Elder Dragon, and then only by running away. I think that the Crimson Glow Valstrax is simply a very old Valstrax, whose Dragon Energy has built up, like a residue, and thus they periodically descend to the ground to briefly go nuts and unleash excess Dragon energy, before finally regaining control and returning to the skies. I've noticed that they don't often attack any other monsters deliberately, and even then it's usually just enough to convince them to back off. They usually attack terrain features or buildings; hard, stationary targets that let them vent a lot of energy at once. They also seem to go after Hunters with particular fervor - like they've had encounters with us before. I've also observed that Crimson Glow Valstraxes can produce Red Serpent Orbs - which are crystalline orbs of condensed Dragon compound, much like outsize pearls. This is completely unique to them - other forms of Valstrax drop smaller crystals called Mindstones.
Theory about valstrax what if the reason they spend all that time in the upper atmosphere and fly around at super sonic speeds is actually to keep the constant build up of dragon element down. But if they land for too long they become overwhelmed with dragon energy making it so that if they were to ignite it like they did before they'd blow themselfs up so they become extremely territorial because they are stuck to the ground Also id like to point out that the sand plains seem to be a high dessert so while we might not realize it. It actually might be pretty high up from sea level or even close to the top of a mountain. Making it a totally legit place something that lands on mountains would land on or fall on
Something to note about basarios: another "daycare/playground" for them has been found during the frenzy virus incident. It is a locale called the Everwood basarios seem to enjoy being there while gravios do not though the Basarios take a more mossy look to them likely to help camoflage better.
I'm still annoyed we didn't get Gravios in Sunbreak. I get that he's not exactly a fan favorite, but adding Gravios, Tetsucabra, and Zamtrios would have rounded out the roster perfectly.
You know: with the Valstrax and Deviljho similarity of Dragon energy seeping into them causing much pain... The New World commission team actually has kept a iron grip on classified information otherwise burnt elsewhere - particularly on Alatreon. Alatreon just produces an obscene amount of dragon energy - even entering a State where a majority of its elemental properties are draconian, a jack of all trades. One can only ponder how discomforting it is for the thing despite its terrifying mastery over the elements.
Perhaps the Crimson glow Valstrax lands so often in the plains is because of the heat. If draconic energy is seeping into its muscle, hide and blood perhaps the warmth of the area helps soothe its pain even for a tiny bit. Warmth is a common source of pain relief so the hot sand/rocks of the plains are the right temperature.
Wow, you actually gave a scientifically reasonable explanation as to why Gravios is not present in Rise. It makes sense that Gravios would have a different environmental preference over its young.
what if the reason crimson glows dragon sack is damaged is because it spends alot of time grounded in the sandy plans for breeding and isnt putting out as much energy causing it to overflow with energy explaining why it does more lazer attack, also meaning crimson glows condition is similar to black diablos as its a side effect to breeding, possibly causing them to die like salmon
The sunbreak monster came to the rise maps as due to the plot of the game so I'm not sure you can call them residents in these regions but invasive species
Man, I'm ready to hunt these monsters once the game hits Game Pass next week. Didn't pick it up on Switch (I have a switch) so looking forward to playing this on the Series X soon.
I love how every video, theres a quick overview of basic knowledge things such as "What is an Elder Dragon" and stuff like that, cause for me, a MH Veteran, thats common knowledge obviously, but whenever i watch a video like this with friends who have 0 clue about anything MH they still get any info they might need (and i need to explain less so thank fuck XD)
Can you imagine some type of gorilla/chimp monster thays huge and uses parts of trees as like weapons. But then the older much experianced one uses like old dead hunters great swords or switch axe
I feel like crimson glow valstrax is caused by sand and dust that float in the atmosphere, sand and dust that then gets sucked into the jets of healthy valstrax, damaging the jets and the dragon sack that propels them.
Well we know the two elder dragons of the game can float and fly. Perhaps this is there attacks on the Valtrax causing it. We know they like the areas around kamura to breed so what's not to say these events co aside one another.
I drew that one myself. its an amalgamation of the Hunters Encyclopedia Map and speculation by GaijinHunter, added onto by yours truly. Past Gen 2, there is no "accuracy" unfortunately, only reasonable and less reasonable assumptions.
