Slime mold is actually a type of protist rather then a fungi. Slime molds are colonial detrivores that are capable of moving like a swarm ants and are able to reorganize there mass in such a way that the they can feed as efficiently as possible despite not having a nerve system.

Hey, am a bio students that specializes in ecology, first off I'd like to say that this video is really good, it takes real life terms and adapt them well to the universe of monster hunter, both goes to show the work put into the game as to replicate a coherent eco-system with esoterical things in them as well as well as the work put into this vid to try and decipher said eco-system, I feel like brachydios is a prime example of symbiosis, while in nature there are many types of interspecific interaction(predation -> +/-, one species feed on another, one gains something, the other loses it, includes parasitism too / competition -> -/-, Two species fight for the same ressource and both gets hurt / etc...) symbioses might be the most interresting while prolly be one of the most ancient! Indeed, the endosymbiosis theory is a theory that tries to explain the presence of mitochondrias, between all the lil compartiments in the cell, only the mitochondria has it's own dna, the theory suggests that the mitochondria was a prokaryote (a bacteria of sorts) that went inside an ancestral cell to form one of the biggest love relationship known in the world haha, basically, the cell itself collects and gives the ressources to the mitochondria and the mitochondria gives energy to the cell, this simple interaction was just the beginning, for then it paved the way to eukaryotes which, in turn, permitted the creation of all complex living organism! It's kinda crazy to imagine that our very existence is dependant on symbiosis! Then we have other examples like the bacterias in our digestive system and all, but really, the theory of the endosymbiosis is clearly the wildest example of it to me, now to go back on other things, it is true that due to stress, the body releases high amounts of noradrenalin which ups bodily functions with little to no regards to the consequences on the long term as long as it helps for survival on the short termes, finally and to end this oh so long monologue, the brachydios's slime of sort could be considered a secondary sexual character, primary sexual characters are just the possesion of male and/or female genitalia while the secondary are all the visible assets an individual can show to prove they are genitically perfect, for example male peacocks are much more colorful than females because they have to show female peacock that they represent genetical perfection, to some degrees we can even put that to humans(this part is very theoritical so no need to take it as entirely true) when we were still quite primitive, male humans had to protect the female and their infant, thus to show power to protect the family, man's secondary sexual character were mainly muscles, body hair can count too in that, anything goes as long as it showed manlyhood and thus strength which was what women saw as genetical perfection, while woman had to deliver babies healthily and feed them, thus why men usually have an attraction towards wide hips and breasts, some of these concepts tend to change with time tho, as society was created and we became all the more connected all the while the dear of predators became less and less of a focus, the standards for men is in evolution dependant on that since to protect its family, men today don't really have to protect them physically anymore but secure their well being with good enough ressources (mainly money, let's be honest) so while thousands of years modelled our brain to find strong powerful bodies attractive, it isn't anymore in a society where intelligence dictates our status as a potential partner, while it changed for men, it didn't for women because the criterias stayed the same, no matter how society evolved (theoretical part over, this was kinda messy but I hope it was understandable) Anyway, I'm not gonna bore anybody much longer than I already did lol, just to say this video is great, and it nailed most of the parts around ecology and biology it was aiming for, and I hope my comically long comment isn't too much of a pain enough of itself lol

just putting this out there that the thing with the immortal reactor making R.brachydios immortal is nothing but a fan theory perpetuated by ragegaming that actually has no basis within the actual lore and was was never hinted at to be the case.
@plus-delta4477
@plus-delta4477 3 года назад
Lol true. I've seen ragegaming lore videos and instead of using in-game hints/references its usually stuff they just make up without saying it's a fan theory. Like Fatalis being the "god of all monsters". Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's called an immortal reactor because it doesn't give out, not because the Brachy itself lives forever.
@allastairvontoussaint5176
@allastairvontoussaint5176 3 года назад
@@plus-delta4477 Maybe because it makes Brachy withstand both the brunt of a full on fight while using the flashpoint slime, as it seems that the thing can literally shred a normal brachy's shell to pieces and kill it, as well as it gives them the hormone overdrive to apparently just sustain absurds amounts of damage and appear unfazed

i still remember the genuine scare i felt when i was doing my guiding land runs, my first time run of wounded brachy luring me to its own playground in the volcanic region erecting walls for a mano a mano run. i was out of healing items and running out of bullets as well on my beo lbg. the moment brachy reached its lair, it screamed, punched ground violently, i was shit scared from its sheer roar, never felt a good goosebump untill this encounter.

Lovely video, but I don't think Raging brachys are male-only. I think they can be either one, since I didn't find a source saying they're male. My sister has an ongoing joke that it's just an old brachydios who lost its chancla so it got mad
@Oceaniz
@Oceaniz 3 года назад
Good point! I ended up going with that interpretation since large territorial animals generally tend to have the males be the ones who seek sexual approval, and the flashpoint is specifically mentioned in multiple translations as a display of sexual attractivity, so I conjectured those two facts together. But you're deffo right, it isn't a hard fact whatsoever - these videos always include a fair bit of speculation just due to the nature of MH Lore being somewhat too sparse to fit a nature mockumentary like this. Thank you for your input!
@Namiazathoth
@Namiazathoth 3 года назад
@@Oceaniz Yeah! I do like that you came to that conclusion though, as a biology pursuer I think it's very much well explained. I actually headcannon female brachys to be bigger and more aggressive because actual studies of T-Rexes and other dinos that share a similar body plan. The fossils of females found that they were WAYYY bigger and had a stronger bite force. This makes sense as most animals in general have females as bigger, it's just most mammals that have bigger males because of the sexual competition and "impress the group of ladies" as their motto.
@Namiazathoth
@Namiazathoth 3 года назад
@@Oceaniz oh and i forgot to mention: while the hypothesis of female t-rexes being bigger was originally questioned due to the bones being broken, nowadays most scientists agree that while it is stupidly difficult to determine if dinosaurs were even sexually dimorphic, in some confined species, female t-rexes had much bigger hips and structure, making them larger than the males. also, while most female reptiles are bigger, some are smaller. royal ludroth is pretty accurate with iguanas and crocs, as males compete with other males to secure a harem. But in most nonsocial animals (which brachydios is), females are bigger, even if there's sexual competition. good example is a lot of spiders, such as Australia redbacks; males will fight if they end up at the same female. So here's my hypothesis: male brachys are smaller, but still show off their slime to their lady friends when there is one. Maybe they follow the trail of the female and duke it out if there's another male. She sees his slime as superior, she chooses him, and after he mates, he gets the hell out of dodge before she gets territorial again. sorry for rambling in the comments section I just love this type of stuff lol
