The biggest problem I see in the NBA is that most players, especially the stars, are more concerned about trying to draw the foul than they are about playing the game.

But players are complaining about playing too many games. They want longer rest time, they want to lower the season, very even complaining about wanting more All-Star breaks when they already have extra all-star breaks. They already complaining about back-to-backs when in reality they removed the triple headers to do them a favor. They have all the advanced technologies, faster playing rides, unique, special personal trainers, longer breaks, and yet they want more? Dog come on man

Agreed. Look at the international rules vs NBA, you can actually play defense in Europe. Game changed in 2003 drastically and every change after has been done to hinder defenders. Hell, You can now take a 3 pointer a foot behind 3pt line and land two feet over it and the defender is responsible for you jumping horizontally instead of vertically. You can still hit big guys but breathe on guards and wings and they all hit the floor whenever they shoot.

TBH I like more scoring when the games average like 105 or so points per team. Cuz honestly those low scoring 60-70 point games were not always the most fun to watch. Also the fact that teams are shooting more threes makes it easier to put up more points since 3’s>2’s. And besides if you look at playoff scoring there has been a lot more defense and actual real defense being played albeit within the soft foul and flopping rules of the NBA

I do not have the numbers in front of me, but I'm going to assume that the jump in injuries are largely because of non-contact injuries. The softer rules allow drivers to have more success weaving through traffic, and therefore there are more people possibly planting their feet at awkward angles. Plus, modern medicine allows those whose career would normally be cut short due to injuries stick around in the league longer. And those types of guys seem to be the ones who continually get injured.
@SmoothOperator419
@SmoothOperator419 Год назад
Other reasons include getting less sleep due to technological advances and youth train harder earlier in life so by the time they are playing at the age of 18 or when drafted; their bodies already have a lot of miles on them.
@eyechip8492
@eyechip8492 Год назад
Exactly! And the game really is a lot faster, many more possessions per gane than in the early 2000s, so with everything being a little faster, you don't get to plant your feet as well, to correct your posture, etc.

@@SmoothOperator419 to me the mileage is the biggest thing. For some of these kids basketball is like a job from an early age. They're damn near in bootcamp. In Magic and Birds eras it was more pick up till it got dark cause they loved the game.
@MrWillhnic
@MrWillhnic Год назад
Actually, and this has been proven, players have more miles on their bodies due to AAU. Plus... they don't really focus on health like they should. No one is really "stacked" like LeBron and those guys in the 90s, etc. Having "meat" on your bones helps you avoid injury. Working out strengthens your ligaments, joints and all things athletic. America focuses on actual playing vs. fundamentals and working out. Think about it... MJ played 82 games even in when he was 40. He was DURABLE. Today... they aren't durable. They just play and hope.

People that say Jordan would average 40 today don't factor in the fact that players today AS A WHOLE are far quicker and more athletic than they were in any era before which is expected, it's evolution. People also act like MJ didn't play in the era of 1 on 1 and still didn't average 40. MJ literally used to clear the floor and have his entire team stand on the other side of the floor to play 1 on 1, they then brought in the rule that it was illegal offense, now imagine if KD, LeBron, Kobe, Kyrie etc... were allowed to do that, one could argue their numbers would be significantly higher too.

The "Curry" effect also doesn't help but I digress. People won't really accept that these rule changes are business decisions to aid in longevity, watchability, and predictable performance. AAU and the greater mileage these players have entering the league combined with the fast pace game (only can be quick because of freedom of movement) means if it can either be physical or fast, but not both.

Players will cater to the rules in all sports. The NHL started having problems with flopping/diving. So you know what they did? They changed the rules. It’s really not that complicated. They added “embellishments” as penalties, AND more importantly, they actually started handing them out regularly. Players switched up REAL QUICK once they were hurting their team and getting embarrassed/ruining their reputation. It literally took like 1 season to fix the issue. All you have to do is just commit to actually calling it league wide. It’s not that complicated.

But Hakeem did...Mutombo did... and you're using a small sample size because for the most part, you didn't have many international players in the NBA back then as it wasn't nearly as popular as it is now. Now you have guys from all over the world. For dirk it took some time for him to get off the ground but the same applied to Kobe. The only argument you could possibly make is for Steve Nash and that's it.

And yes i know there talking about the physical game and how its softer but players are softer emotionaly aswell

The game is less physical but... they really overstate it. Guys in the 70s said the 80s was soft, guys in the 80s said the 90s were soft. Theres an interview of Wilt on youtube where he says the Jordan era was so soft he would average 70 a game. Now guys who came into their primes in the mid to late 2000s are saying they were the tough era, but when they played the 80s guys said they were soft. Its just oldhead behaviour to think that you had it tougher and better and that music, sports, society, etc is always getting worse.
@donaldb93
@donaldb93 Год назад
They have slowly made the rules favor offensive players so the games can be high scoring for the casual fan not a die hard NBA fan who’s just passionate about how hard the game is played. This era is just really soft because you literally can’t play defense now they even changed rules on how you contest a shot on defense. It’s just more soft than it’s ever been to the point where they have made certain changes to let the players play guard a little bit more now

Well the stats show the number of fouls called is at an all-time low right now so we can throw that "so soft can't even breathe without it being a foul" argument out of the window and anyone that actually watched the games from the 80s and 90s knows the game felt like it was constantly being stopped due to whistles. I honestly don't know what these old heads are talking about at all. It's like they have selective memory. Another issue is, these kids are being put on these crazy advanced workout programs from when they're 11-12yrs old before their body has even had a chance to develop they're already lifting weights, putting weights on their ankle, using equipment that restricts them during workouts so that they can be more explosive when it finally comes off. Does it work? Absolutely but at what price? A lot of wear and tear and strain on the body from a very young age so by the time they hit their 20s notice how a lot of these guys miss huge chunks of their careers. That needs to be looked at a lot more because these workouts clearly have huge effects and also having these kids playing full seasons like they're in the NBA or College is unacceptable combined with these weird workouts.
