@@anamethattellsastory6648 the difference is that Bird was already a 2 time champion, 3 appearances by the time he won his 3rd mvp. Bird was probably already seen as a top 10 all time player at the time. The NBA didn't know if Jokic would ever win a chip by comparison, so they viewed it differently.

It's been 3 seasons but yeah the way OKC is going about it has probably never been seen in NBA history. Not only were they tanking for a very, very short amount of time, but they also still have 22 first round picks and 23 second rounder from now until the 2029 draft, with weird protections here and there obviously. Like, guys are only going to get better, they're the second youngest team in the NBA (was the youngest until Houston traded Eric Gordon), plus Chet is coming back, plus whatever they decide to do with their picks this draft, they could very easily jump to, like, a 5 seed next season. And that process is just going to repeat, young guys get better and then they have all the draft capital in the world on top of it. Or, y'know, they're a top seed in the league and then decide to also dump their most valuable picks for whatever superstar happens to be upset at the time. Not gonna say dynasty or even a single championship, but OKC definitely has a very very bright future

Yeah also what was sage talking about "if you're gonna tank then go for all the generational number one guys" that's literally what the 76ers did and now every gives them shit for it. They tanked for like 5 or 6 years, then in 2017 every one is freaking out thinking Embiid, Simmons, and Fultz are about to be a big three and lead 76ers to like 3 straight titles. And even if OKC doesn't win a chip, tanking for two seasons and then immediately going back to being competitive is a huge win for the fanbase considering Sam Hinkie made 76ers a poverty franchise for 5 years and made them just competitive enough to lose in the second round every year.

Look at what the heat did, what the celtics did. The idea is that having a high pick don't mean anything if you draft a Joel Embiid or a Ben Simmons. You need a good front office and culture.

@@simple45679 The heat are literally the exception. The Celtics don’t count. They had high draft picks regardless (the Nets tanked on their behalf). Also tanking worked for San Antonio twice (Robinson and Duncan), and soon to be Wemby. Another thing tanking does is give you a shit ton of valuable trade assets
