ABOUT THE SHOW
"The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow" this holiday season as NBC has found its next live musical event: the beloved seven-time Tony Award-winning hit Annie Live!
Annie Live! features Academy Award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson as the musical's infamous queen of mean, Miss Hannigan. Henson will play opposite Celina Smith in the titular role of Annie. Already a triple threat at the age of 12, Smith was selected in a nationwide casting search.
The holiday musical event also features Tituss Burgess as Rooster Hannigan, Megan Hilty as Lily St. Regis, Harry Connick Jr. as Daddy Warbucks and Nicole Scherzinger as Grace.
Robert Greenblatt will executive produce the telecast along with Neil Meron, who has served as executive producer on all of NBC's live musicals since 2013's The Sound of Music Live!, and most recently the Emmy Award-winning Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
The live event is being produced by Chloe Productions.

I actually got to watch it. Not as bad as I thought. You can't judge a book by its cover. I know what I've been saying before but see after seeing this I know originally Annie was white but I think Annie can be white or black. Because Annie will be Annie. She will still be adopted by Daddy Warbucks. She'll still try to be finding her parents. I finally understand what everybody's been saying. Annie can be white or black. Even though she was originally White but this is a new Era. But honestly I will always see Annie as white redhead girl.

If you take away the extreme poverty aspect of it, you take away a core part of its identity, and what makes it hit hard. 1982 movie, 1999 and this will always be better than that mess.

Annie is my favorite musical of all time so when this was announced I was afraid that I was going to end up hating it but after watching this trailer I gotta say I’m surprised at how good this looks after going through the 1995 Disney version and the terrible 2014 remake I’m glad to see we’re finally getting an adaptation that’s faithful to the original source material and the 1982 classic movie (although that movie will always be the superior version) but after watching this I am a little more open to the idea that I could end up legitimately liking this ( though to be fair there is also that chance that this could end up sucking as well but we’ll just have to wait and see on that) but other than that I am definitely interested in watching this on Thursday or Friday

If it had been the other way around - original version with "black people" as you called them and a remake converted to non "black people" then there would be angry mobs howling and rioting in the streets right now with cars being flipped and set on fire and businesses looted for reparations. @@rekle5739 Well it’s a reason it can’t work the “other way around”. Most black characters and other POC characters have some cultural background and their ethnicity tied to their character. Your example of a “white Black Panther” wouldn’t work because Black Panther is a ruler of an *African* country and the comic book often tackles black issues. Lol the movie dealt with the topic of colonization and whether it was right to close borders to other countries due to the effects of colonialism. That’s not going to work with a “white Black Panther”. Meanwhile some characters that are white don’t have ethnicity or cultural backgrounds to their characters so it’s easy to swap them out. Annie has no cultural significance to her character so Annie can be whatever color. We already had TWO black Annies. If she HAS to be white, what cultural significance does Annie have, display, or represent? Oh and red hair and freckles isn’t a character trait or a culture.

To those who have an issue with Celina Smith playing Annie, the 2014 film also featured a black actress (Quvenzhané Wallis) playing the titular character. So this is honestly nothing new. Annie’s race wasn’t even essential to the plot of the story, so it really doesn’t matter who portrays her as long as she can act.

Annie was a good actress but I felt like she couldn't really sing that well. Felt like she was really straining her voice. I feel as she acted more through her voice than with her body like her facial expression seemed stiff most of the time. Also half the words the woman were singing I couldn't understand. Cool choreography though. Very cute ending.

@@josephchappell1389 Being a white American isn’t a culture either. Prior to this and the 2014 movie, Annie was just a white girl with no cultural significance to her character. If she was a redhead that was Scottish or Irish and she had a accent and showed off her heritage, you’d had a point, but she didn’t and one more time being a white person with red hair and freckles isn’t a character trait and it isn’t a culture which is why they can honestly swap her color with whatever they want.
