The research, published Friday in the journal JAMA Health Forum, tracked a total of 747 patients who reported that the high cost of drugs has forced them to leave prescriptions unfilled or stretch out the time between doses. About half were randomly selected to have their drugs fully covered. After three years, the researchers found that providing prescriptions free of charge to these patients saved the public healthcare system an average of $1,488 per patient per year, by helping to prevent such things as unexpected trips to the hospital. with this pharmacare bill the cost of drugs will now jump up 100% as of right now I do not pay for insulin but just the dispensing fee with pharmaceuticals coming in from the us, canada will have to raise taxes(a turdeau love affair ) to pay for the extra cost of all these drugs that canadians do not have to pay for.

OK I have had enough of this guy! None of this stuff is free! It is taxpayers that pay for it. $10/day child care is misnamed but it wouldn't sound so good if we called it $150/day taxpayer funded child care. Interest costs on federal debt will be more than what the feds spend on healthcare next year, so we are paying for all this stuff, and paying interest on what we borrow to make up the difference. Now he is suggesting that the feds step way over their jurisdiction (again) and offer lunch programs at schools across the country. Does he realize that running deficits every year, forever, is unsustainable? He claims we need to make the rich pay more, but there isn't enough rich people in Canada to cover all this. Reality please!

I can't wait to see my taxes be raised even higher because the NDP doesn't understand that the majority of Canadians have pharmacare coverage. Even if we were to believe in the necessity of this plan, there are dozens of other issues far more pressing to Canadians right NOW (unequal healthcare access, substandard healthcare, substandard civil service, rising cost of living, rising violent crime, rising drug deaths.....). By continuing to prop up the Trudeau Liberals, you too bear responsibility for these priorities falling by the wayside. You have chosen to support a government driven not by logic or care for its citizens, but rather one that would prefer to use its power for the advancement of ideologically driven nonsense that only holds down Canadians while they sneer and pretend to be "on your side". Drugs are cheaper when the govt uses it's power to negotiate the prices down. This Pharmacare will be better and less expensive than the current system.
first of all, the government doesn't care about the price of drugs since they're not paying for them, you the consumer will. the government has no revenue other than from your taxes so they don't really care about costs. second of all anytime you sell something to the government you double or triple the costs just because (a) you can and (b) to cover the costs of dealing with all of the bureaucracy.

Pharmacare's bureaucracy costs way less than the extra corporate bureaucracy added by insurance companies, since govt do not have to spend money marketing and giving profits to rich people.
