The Nehru Trophy boat race is an annual sporting event that takes place in the backwaters of the southern Indian state of Kerala in the district of Alappuzha. Established in 1953 by India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, it is a unique spectacle with Olympic-level precision and performance. Each boat has around 100 players, who bring down their oars in unison at exhilarating speeds.
We explore the sport with members of the United Boat Club (UBC-Kainakary).
