I was told by a lady on a period house group that she had one fitted privately and it didn’t heat their house . Consequently she had to have another one fitted to support the other one and the house still wasn’t warm. Was a four bedroom property. Stone like mine . She was paying £2000 a month approx in electricity bills . She told me catagorically not to have one fitted. I’m glad I listened

I know a person in the same type of house (4bed trad stone Welsh farmhouse) in a very exposed coastal position - we call it windy alley. Heat pump. Doesn't heat the house properly or provide enough hot water for 2 adults 1 child. It fails in any storm, and so they have fitted two log burners that are their comfort in the winter. Oh yes, their electricity bill has quadrupled. They wanted solar panels to help with the electricity but the Parks have said no, not on a stone farmhouse!

Look at Australia - they forced the smart metres with laws and the use of cops to enable the installation if people refused. As for heat pumps - yeah they're utter BS, we're stuck with one as when the solar hot water heater / service died (tank failed), the law only permits heat pumps - can't even have solar hot water anymore. The old solar hot water was great even in winter - heaps of hot water 4-6 showers worth! The new heat pump hot water is wonderful in Australia's scorching summer but, come winter you're lucky to get 1.5 showers before someone has to go out, push the "boost" button, wait and repeat a few times over 12-14 hours for more hot water as heat pumps are utter BS in cold weather (under 3 degrees Celsius) - and this is considered "working properly".

We were offered a house on a new housing estate and it is now the norm, the way they do it is crazy. They had a central building that manages all the pumps/system for all of the 30 houses and the lady that showed us around said that you don't have your own bill, everyone pays the same on the estate. It takes an average of everybody's bill and you pay that fee, which worked out dearer than our current 3 bedroom house built in the 70's. She said there would be no point keeping heating off to save money as if someone on the estate was running their heating 24/7 you would still end up paying more (apparently its supposed to help someone pay their bill if they are stuggling). It literally made no sense. I commented on the solar panels on the roof of all the new houses and said does that lower my bill, she said no that is just backup power incase the electric goes off for the heat pump station...

I installed an air source heat pump in a new house that I built in 2015 to heat the underfloor heating. It constanly froze up and then pumped all of the heated water back through the pump to defrost it, which made the water in the underfloor heating freezing cold and useless. It continued to do this and i eventually had to change it for an oil fired boiler. Lesson learnt.

My neighbour is "one of those" , tesla in the drive, roof swamped with solar panels and a recent heat pump. He spent all winter caressing his hot radiators but he's unaware that when the outside temperature gets to a certain level a thermostatic sensor turns on a immersion heater in the 6 foot tall water tank you have to have with the pump. I think his immersion heater has been on since December 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I live in southern Tasmania. Heat pumps have been being pushed here for 10 years as THE best thing for heating your home. We had one in a rental property which had absolutely zero impact on raising the ambient temperature. The house of course only had single glazing which meant the warm air hit the glass and dropped below the inside temperature. The assertion is that they should NOT be turned off! ie, that once the room temperature reaches optimal comfort level, the HP should just carry on maintaining that temperature. Unfortunately reality is not like that: we can have an autumn or even a summer's day of 26-30° but as soon as the sun sets the temperature plummets to 10-15°. Normally we would fire up the would stove and in 1/2 hr things are toasty. This is not possible with a heat pump. They also claim that they are sooo much cheaper and sooo much more environmentally friendly!? As we all know electricity is not cheap, and, depending upon how it's generated, it can be down right inefficient! When all is said and done, it is about coralling people into one easily controllable means of heating. Once everybody's on board they can remotely control people's usage and reduce it as necessary!

We only use ours for hot water every day, if you have the radiators on it brings down the tap water temperature. Also once a week, the machine forces the temp of the water very high using only the immersion element which is very costly, something to do with Legionnaires!

Also, a heat pump is just an air conditioner that can run backwards to switch coils. So it has to be sized a certain way that it doesn't heat or cool when it's at extreme ranges. They want everyone on electric so they can control what you can do.

Pester pester. Pestered twice last week. Actually my elderly Worcester Bosch oil boiler was replaced last month with a modern condensing boiler, just a one day job, no fuss. Unfortunately I was caught by the government £100.00 plus VAT 20%) levy on oil boilers to subsidise this xxxx.

I wonder how these idiotic heat pumps are going to work in Canada where in January and February the temperature goes down to minus 15 celcius or lower. This year we had a few days of minus 30.

Darren I have a heat pump (government installed for free). It is crap. It only heats the downstairs radiators to look warm levels. It does not heat the upstairs. It costs so much electricity the electric suppliers have a separate charge rate and a separate meter for it!!!! It's absolutely useless!! Same with the freezing cold air getting blown halfway up the garden - no joke, it's that much air!

heat pumps are fine in areas where it doesn't get really cold and stay cold... they are very common in the south in the states. You don't see them very often up north where it gets cold.. I do not have a heat pump because it gets really cold and stays cold for months...

I've had a heat pump for 8 years here in WV, USA. The only problem I've had, aside from adding fuel to it, is in winter when it gets below 30 degrees, it kicks automatically to emergency heat and the price of heat doubles. That is 3 months out of the year here. I am all electric in my home. Love watching your updates.

My 12kw heat pump keeps my house warm typically consuming 1kw per hour, this increases to 1.5khw when the weather is down to -8’c. But when it’s above 0’c it uses 1kw per hour. Mines runs for 18 hours on a cold 0’c day, it will run 24hours when we are below 0’c. That’s not really using that much power, it’s cheap, don’t you agree?

In August 22, we changed from solid fuel boiler to Heat pump, best move we ever made, the old boiler was coming to the end of it's life (40 years) now we are more comfortable, more control over the system and more importantly it costs less then buying solid fuel. House not great insulation, but we have a steady temperature of 20°c all the time, not noisy, and for the last year, it has only cost just over £710 . Took time to set up correctly, but now, I never need to touch anything.

Heat pumps remind me of the reverse cycle air conditioning units in Australia. Cools the home in summer, heats the home/room, if you can call it heat, in winter. They're noisy as heck, particularly outside and extremely expensive to install and even more to run.

Maine, USA here. Gets down to -30°F/-40°C here and the ptb are trying to steer us toward heat pumps. Not only that, the oil thieves are charging $5-6 a gallon(!!!) for heating oil, a petro product that requires less processing than gas, which costs $3-4 a gallon!😠 Remember what it said on the stairwell in the church near the beginning of 28 Days Later?

Air heat pumps are noisy and useless in cold climates. However ground source heat pumps, whether a hole drilled down 100m or digging a long trench 2m deep for the pipes are much better and all the equipment is inside. You can imagine that only the well off in more leafy areas could afford it.

They are not as efficient as advertised, take up too much room for most average households and do not pump out enough heat needed for the average home. Iv'e looked into it as i just moved house and needed a new heating system. Iv'e choosen a gas boiler, if i was younger and had a traditional fireplace at this house, i'd have a traditional log burner- very little to breakdown or replace-and free wood if you can source it.
