thmn.to/thoprod/585378?offid=1&affid=3252 our family are currently vomiting violently after taking delivery of the Nano Cortex. If you fancy risking it - use this Thomann link - it's £489 there.
They really fucked up with this. It doesn’t have overdrives. It should have an effects loop. It should have everything available on quad cortex with limited dsp. Should have a screen.
At this price I think this is great for the right niche. I can download any number of a variety of sounds and plug my headphones in and practice on my couch while I watch a movie, and the captures still sound way better than anything I can get from my katana artist.
Is it grounded? My Quad Cortex is not grounded unless something the outputs are plugged into are grounded, and there is a terrible hum when playing only through headphones. One of the few downsides to the quad cortex. Hopefully they fixed this for the Nano
That’s bad news. You may want to get a an Ebtech Hum Eliminator or something similar. You can feed it TS or TRS In/Out in any combination. It will isolate the ground from the Cortex output and amp or mixer in.
@@GearStuffandThings I think the HX Effects would be a better pairing (less $ as well), no need to have a second amp modeler, unless you want a dual-rig setup.
HX Stomp has got WAY better pitch shifter. If You use it to drop -3 or even -5 then the one on nano cortex is really weak point. 4 presets aren't enough to play live without fiddling with the phone. I really wanted to like NC, but those are dealbreakers to me. YMMV. Cheers.
I feel like Boss just did the floor modelers because everyone else was. Their heart wasn't in it and they sure don't devote many resources to keeping it current.
Foolish of us to think the Nano Cortex would be similar to the Kemper Player, FM3, HX Stomp, Ampero II Mini, MG300, MX5, Zoom 4, Stomplab or the GP200LT. Lol!
I think it’s great. For me I really only need 4 or sounds per gig so this is ideal. And the fact it has effects (effects I can and will use) means it gets the nod over the Kemper etc. All in One. Result
@@Steve-n7t logic mate. Do I need dozens of tones and effects I’ll never use? No. It’s all about practicality. Plus, I’ve just measured and the little beauty fits in the little case it will be housed and stay for gigs
LOL, yeah I remember all the whiners saying the same shit about the Quad Cortex when it came out but look how popular that became. Lotta fucking whiners about this thing man. I wouldn’t buy this thing either. It’s definitely very limiting in a bad way but If it’s not your bag and you’re broke I get it, go buy a Behringer V-Amp 2 off Ebay or something but it gets so stale sifting through all the whiney bitch posts about this thing man. We get it already. You either are broke and can’t afford it or you are looking for features this thing doesn’t have but trashing everyone who buys it because it’s not your bag is super lame and unnecessary. Typical gear internet commando syndrome. 🤣
When you look at the overall market at this price point, this thing is like a wet fart in a crowded elevator. This thing would get a lot less criticism at $299 and would be more in line with it's actual feature set.
For this price I still prefer an HX Stomp, If I want to play captures I prefer ToneX One, I think anyone who has real amps to capture has also the money to spend on the better capture units and not this crippled captures version, most people who want an affordable pedal to play captures live do NOT need the capture feature, NeuralDSP could have released a cheaper version that does not include the ability to capture and instead create a 3 switch affordable pedal that can only load captures plus this FX section, in that way they'd have improved on the ToneX One
I think it can be very cool but from what i gathered if you capture a pedal, you can't use it with a captured amp so what's the point? also the idea of being able to download captures from other people is cool but if seems to me that it would be a pain in the arse to find good captures that sound good. I feel like if you are on a budget, the hx stompt is a much better bang for your buck.
I’m super excited for this! I couldn’t afford a quad cortex so this is perfect for me. I’ve seen all the other alternatives and nothing clicked with me like this did.
With another capture slot for overdrive pedals or the ability to switch between cab and capture and between chorus and tremolo … this device would be amazing for small gigs. I picture this with a power amp and a cab or a frfr.
This might be the most uninspiring release I’ve seen in a while. Sorry, I don’t get it at all. You can buy 2 Tonex minis (for drives AND amps) and a decent reverb/delay for this price. No models, no drive option, limited effects. Yeah, not for me.
As someone who has two ToneX’s and a ToneX One (mini), this is far more interesting. Way more user friendly and the quality of chorus and delay sound like they’re Strymon level. I’ve been running a TC Plethora after my ToneX rig, but the workflow speed with ToneX can be frustrating.
The flexibility of this unit over the Tonex is much more inspiring and interesting to me. ToneX also has perceivable latency on some captures. It’s all subjective
@@jamesbennettmusic2154 Fair play. It does sound good, but the lack of options would be frustrating for me. The quality of the effects is excellent, but at $500+ I have a tough time justifying that price
@@GearStuffandThings interesting. I have only used the software. On my Mac, I am not experiencing any latency. It works perfectly, and the raw tones are the best I’ve heard (if you get the right captures, of course).
I think their thought process is to use it a lot like you would patches. In other words, there's no stomp box for you to turn on and off.Tand provide your sound live. More than likely it was made intended to basically use one song per patch.I guess.... In ways I don't like it
Capture pedals inevitably become a massive tail chase. Outside of some very specific use cases, they are the worst of both worlds (Amps and digital) and you’ll always gravitate back to wanting to use a modeler or an amp.
I see a lot of people complaining about the lack of effects on here but isn't the whole point of the Cortex over an HX stomp the amp capture capabilities? A small, simple, affordable box you can trow on your pedalboard to basically deliver sounds from multiple amps---amp sounds that eclipse anything Line 6 has in its programming. Isn't that the whole point here? It makes this a great option for those who are ok running a few pedals into the front of the input jack.
@@R74NN Fair, I'm not saying it is or isn't worth the price. But from a functionality standpoint, getting a hold of captures of, say, a Two Rock, Fender DR, Friedman/Marshall type amp, and even a high-gain Mesa and carrying all those around in a box the size of a King of Tone makes a lot of sense for a lot of people, *if* the amp captures truly do stand above the modeling in an HX Stomp...
I think it’s fine for simple setups and for most bass players. Also agree that the capture feature should have been kept in the bigger unit, and add an effects loop or another block
I think it sounds really good. If all you need are a couple of sounds then this definitely would work. It will be interesting to see what they come up with for it. Apparently it's got 2Ghz of power which is almost the same as the Quad. That said, as slow as they are with updates you could be waiting a long time.
One thing I whole heartily agree with: we don't need another screen when we have a portable screen in our pockets with a wonderful interface. No more crouching on the ground to make updates.
Watching you go through this “blind” is great. You’re playing ✅. My first thought the tones are good…now give me a HX Stomp with capture capability and a little more dsp 😉🤣
Not only that, but they are not maximizing the technology, the processing algorithms or processing speed needs to be maybe 4X better. The pitch shifter sounds garbled the further away from the fundamental. Sure, I realize the further away, the worse. I had hope the newer technology would improve upon. Apparently not. LOL, maybe they should ask AI on how to achieve this. Not that they haven’t 😊
To me it seems like the main selling points for me over say a Tonex is 1 Name Recognition(i love the nerual Plugins) 2 the app ( seems way more convenient than having to plug a tonex into your laptop) and the added reverb, delay, transpose, and chorus fx. Personally thats not enough for me to switch (atleast not without trying it out in person through a sound system). If they wouldve added the ability to add and edit a drive pedal and run stereo amps that wouldve been a huge upgrade over the tonex especially at the price point but id imagine the tech to do that would drastically increase the price
For what it does, I'd probably go for the tonex mini or micro or whatever it is? Maybe N-DSP does the capturing better, that's definitely possible, but with the artist presets available for the tonex stuff even if you have to pay a few bucks for those packs, you're getting pretty well curated, carefully done captures. I kind of just went the opposite direction and sold my Walrus ACS-1 (which is a great, great little box, don't get me wrong) + a few dirt pedals and bought a Friedman IR-d. The idea being to streamline a little, use my HX Stomp for f/x and some modeling (and recording of course), but have a single knob/single function setup for the 'amp' itself. Like a lot of people I go back and forth on these things. One day I love my VST synths and the endless power they have, the next I want a Prophet or a Waldorf Q because each has a bunch of knobs you can just grab and go. We'll see how long this 'simplify' thing lasts, but I'll still have my Stomp if I want to spend hours tweaking the sag parameters on amps I'll never be able to afford . . . .
7 blocks is enough so if it would get some more effects in future updates … compressor, OD instead of the shifter and some modulation like phaser or vibe instead the chorus, I would give it a try.
Not sure that's true. There were leaks of the image and John made the video on that, guessing that from previous experience it probably meant it was going to be announced in the next couple of days. Then yesterday it was available to buy and John said he'd put an order in. I expect it's just arrived and John's made a video on it, simple as that
And that video was perfectly timed with other RU-vidrs videos on the same device. And we're supposed to believe that this is not a sponsored video or the previous one.
@@PuRe_AdDicTits a bit of reach there my guy, the picture of the nano cortex was leaked online hours before john made a video on it. I wouldn’t think there’s anything nefarious going on
@@PuRe_AdDicT Yes. John is open and clear when it's a sponsored video. There were images of the nano over the internet and John just picked up on those and discussed it, same as others were doing. Yesterday when it was officially announced he said he would order one, which means buy it with his own money. Today it arrived.
Any bluetooth pedal can honestly get in the bin - had a gig where my phone refused to connect to one of the UA pedals and flushed it immediately afterwards. Pedalboard amps with analog parts are still king imo.
If it matched the capabilities of the HX Stomp (modeling, dual amp capability, no fixed signal path, same effect options as the flagship but with less DSP) this would’ve been a home run… even if they charged $100-$200 more.
Would have bought this if it had had an effects loop, or at least some way to get the drop-tuned input signal routed to an output for parallel use in a vocal harmony pedal (for correct harmonies given the key being played in). As is, I love that the drop tuning feature is implemented, making it unnecessary to use a Digitech The Drop up front for occasional tuning down a half or full step, but with no way to feed a vocal harmony pedal with the dropped guitar signal at all, it‘s dead in the water for me as a singing guitar player.
I bought one next week I should receive it Was kinda disappointed that you couldn’t load plug-ins But seen a video wich you can capture the plug in on the computer I have the tonex one witch I can use distortion pedal in front or I can use split into two different amps The capture is bonus with real amps or capture plugins
@@DarthV506 yeah I actually went down the route of getting a midi-Bluetooth adapter and using the 3rd party app that’s out there for controlling fractal but it’s very unstable. Not worth doing.
They should've named it the micro. Then, next year (soon) they could've released the nano in the same form factor as the ToneX One. Now they will have to call that the femtocortex.
I echo my comments on the Kemper Profiler...no screen, no sale. Even the Two Notes M+ had a screen. Why not. A couple of bucks and it would make this unit so much easier to use rather than tap dancing around tiny lights on the pedal. OK, you can capture. How often do you do that with quality results. More than likely you find captures that are of professional quality. Another disappointing second tier product.
I have a QC, but this thing seems like something for someone who does a lot of work on their phones (millennials and Gen Z’s). This could legit be the ultimate fly rig and no annoying power plug like the QC 😆😆
I have a Behringer Ultra Octaver which is $25 brand new. It allows you to bring in a little octave up or down with levels. Can this unit "mix" up and down the octave selected?
I’ve wanted to get something do do captures of my amps and preamps for a while, but have been balking at spending close to $2,000 for the Quad Cortex, which seems to have the easiest and quickest method to do it. The Tone X looked intriguing, but the complexity and poor app management kept me away. This hit the market yesterday and I ordered it as it seems to be the best unit to do what I want at a price I can live with. I don’t need tons of effects…I have pedals and the HX FX and Stomp for all that. So for me…..the Nano might be perfect. We’ll see………
" Nano Cortex can be utilized as a USB 2.0, 24-bit, 48kHz (Fixed) " No 44.1kHz, no 96kHz so when I'm away from home I can't work on projects at those common fs . . . . unless of course I take my HX Stomp with me !!!!!!!
I’d like your opinion on making your own captures and the quality compared to the Tonex. I’ve invested a lot of time making captures on the Tonex which are in my opinion better than the majority of what’s out there. I’ll probably get the Nano Cortex anyway because I’m a gear junkie.
At almost the same price you can get a Tonex and pair it with the Ua Ox Stomp then you have endless possibilities in tweaking your amps and cabs, and the same number of fx than nano cortex..even more considering compressor. It is the best sound I ever got so far after trying modelers from line 6 and Ampero. The downside is the crap App of Ua Ox Stomp that should learn from neural how to release a decent smartphone app ;)
I still think that they should offer something in that size that is dedicated only to the plugins, that already can run all the plugins. i am so unimpressed with the nanocortex as it is.
A valid point. I guess it would be the included effects which would make it work as a simple one stop solution…. I know how that goes. We’re musicians. LOL. We’re always looking for that magical holy grail.
you can capture the plugin but not the effects so more trash we do not need nero needs to get the x plugins done instead of making some trash pedal that no one needs.
Capture is a snapshot of an actual amp. It's plugged in to the amp and samples it. You then can't change the sound you get out of it by much but by all accounts sounds pretty accurate to the recorded sound of that amp. Modelling is where you try to recreate the actual amp digitally, either by modelling the individual components and circuit in a computer simulation, or some other algorithm. This should then let you adjust all the settings like you would be able to on the actual amp. How accurate it sounds and feels come down to the quality of the modelling
I like that the Nano has the capture hardware built in. This makes it most comparable to the Tonex and Tonex capture but in a single device. I went ahead and bought one thinking I could return it if it doesn’t meet my needs so once it shows up I’ll scrutinize it pretty heavily. We shall see
The HX stomp just doesn’t sound high end. Yeah it has more features but I care about audio quality and Line6 has never cut it. I don’t need modeling. I have all my captures dialed in and only need a few effects to get the job done. Plus the library of effects make getting new sounds easy. I bought this because it simply sounds better than any other modelers that are thin and cheap sounding.
Using my samsung ipad should be no problem as far as a screen is and are concerned... Do you really think this is worth five hundred dollars...def not as far as i want a stom box and amp emulator both to use live...
