I’m so grateful every time you post writing vlogs- as an aspiring author, it’s so validating to see the day to day grind, but also to see you finding JOY in the day to day grind. Thank you as always; I’m so excited to hear the new title! 💕
I admire your attitude. I’m always gobsmacked by my dev edits. I hand over a near perfect book and…. No, it’s not. Lol. Especially the big act two stuff. Cut cut cut. And I write historical fiction so do tend to fall in love with the research tidbits. Which ALWAYS has to get pared down. Congrats on the additions to the family. 🐱
Congrats on completing dev edits. I think you should end all your vlogs (esp on successfully completing tasks) with that b-roll of Leo having what looks like the best sleep
Congrats on the kittens and the edit feedback! I've been living vicariously through you and I love it :P Thanks for the update! and also excited for this thriller of yours!
Aww, Alexa. I'm in the same spot when it comes to kittens. I lost my beloved cat Bandit in May, also due to cancer, and just adopted two kittens- Sora and Tsuki, to keep my older cat Sammy company. So now we're a three-cat household.
I cracked up at the *Editor Alexa cackling* 😂 cuz it happened to me too! I planned to finish my latest revisions in 5 weeks and then I ended up sending it to my editor 7 weeks later. lolololol on my earlier optimism Love these vlogs! 😍
I’m so sorry for your loss! That’s such a difficult thing to go thru. I lost my dog Wilson last October. Then this January I got a new puppy. He’s nothing like Wilson. He’s… a lot- but worth it! As far as kitten b-roll goes- I’m all for it! My entire family is allergic to cats, otherwise we’d definitely have one! I love cats, and most seem to love me. It’s as if they know I’m allergic to them and then decide to head-bump me and rub themselves all over my body. I love it, but also I get so itchy. So yes, more kitten footage. And I noticed that eyeshadow before you pointed it out. And of course it’s Pat McGrath! For the price, it better be spectacular. I also recommend Juvia’s Place eyeshadows for when you have the craving for more palettes but not the budget (love the violets palette and the berries palette). I think I’ve been buying more makeup this year just to cope with everything. I have so many recommendations if anyone needs any. 😁
Such cute babies! Thank you for sharing them with us. And congrats on your dev edits coming back so clean! (Also going to note that your Murder She Texted vlogs inspired me to watch Murder She Wrote again. Just as good as I remembered it! 😄)
Kittens!! We have five cats, but three are elderly so we did the same when our matriarch cat died, got two kittens, and its been a lot of fun, they're a year old now but settled in great!
I confess it, I clicked for the kittens. I have three cats and I'm still obsessed with everybody else's cats... (and dogs, and horses. Haha, my mom thought I'd grow out of it.)
Listening to this, although I will confes I clicked for the kitty cats, just reinforces the need for and the good editors do. The way you make it sound is that an editor is a huge boon if you can either afford or have one assigned to you if applicable. One of those small things I am jealous of going into self publishing.
I just started The Ivies. I'm not too far in, but I'm loving it so far! I'm gonna be starting my first round of edits all too soon. I'm both scared and excited at the same time.
I've been watching all of your live writing sprints, they're so helpful while writing my current revision! Will you be doing more of those live streams? Also, the kittens. the eyeshadow. the insights. Loving the vlogs!
Woohoooo you made it! Good job. Looking forward to seeing the cover! Adorable kitties are adorable. I have such a soft spot for grays and Bronte's eyes are just... ! Super jelly of your B&N too, damn girl. And I will NOT buy that eyeshadow palette. I will not. ... at least, not yet. That color was stunning on you!
Ok so I've been on a journey with her. I was told she was a calico and was like "no way she's a calico" b/c she was almost 100% gray when I got her with teeny tiny cream patches, so I thought "dilute tortie" but her coat pattern is evolving as she gets a bit older, so I do think she may be a dilute calico!
happy that your cheesecake adventure worked out well, but it just reminded me so much of that one video from SortedFood where they tested a whole bunch of InstantPot recipes and were like: -"How long does it take to make a cheesecake in an InstantPot?" -"About 10 minutes to prepare and then 45 minutes in the intantpot to cook" -"and how long does a regular one take?" -"About 10 minutes to prepare, and then 45 minutes to cook" 😂
do you always go: line edits first, THEN whole chapters/scenes/broader picture stuff in the back nine? i always assumed the reverse was the norm. unless... IS there a "norm"?
Hey 👋🏽 I do have a question on how you move the smaller changes from word to scrivener? I’ve always wondered if people are able to not duplicate the work done
When I'm on top of it, I copy chapter by chapter back into Scrivener but honestly I tend to reach a point with the Word Doc where I give up and stick to Word b/c my editor loves Words haha.
Ma'am where is your mid-year thriller recommendations? I need thriller recommendations (adult) from you. I read some of your end of 2020 recommendations and they were awesome!
Hey Alexa, I have a chapter in my book where I will introduce a very popular singer, and she will sing her most popular song. Do you have any tips on how to write music in books? from the lyrics to the instruments. I would love your help because I'm stuck. thanks!
