Hi Joe, First things first, love the format ! Price-wise, well, the equivalent Golf 8 is almost as expensive, and a lot smaller. The eTSI, the same as on my Golf 8, works perfectly on the lighter Golf. Great review. Cheers, Tom.

Decide which VW you want then drive to the nearest Skoda dealer and buy their equivalent model.

I like these a lot. Hopefully you keep them coming. My wife has aa AWD Tiguan a 2021. It as she said was "dangerously slow" . No ome does 55 here (US) so changing lanes was problematic. A tune brought it up to about 225 hp and 264 torque. Its sufficient definitely not dangerous anymore.

Good format Joe. For cars like the Tiguan, which are more family transport oriented the first drive review is probably enough to gauge the suitability of the car. Your usual longer videos are best suited obviously to the more performance oriented machinery. Looking forward to more like this. I enjoy all your videos.

What’s with all the bikini bots? Another disappointing VW (have sat in one and wasn’t impressed, too much piano plastic, haptic buttons etc) The Kodiaq will be better, which seems a common VW theme at the moment, where its other brands seem to do a better job with the platforms they make…looks too much like the ID4/5 and they are pretty poor efforts.

Effectively a £40K car, eligible for the punitive “luxury car” tax. Good car though it is, it is not a luxury car

Completely agree with you on; the amount of poke these cars have when loaded up with the family and some luggage. My dad tends to go for a car with at least a 2 litre for this reason. They have a countryman with the 1.5 petrol and although he doesn’t mind bumbling around in it, he can’t stand it for longer journeys or motorways as it feels a bit gutless merging with traffic especially on shorter slip roads - there’s some of these where we live and even I; sport mode, it really needs winding up. He’s looking at a Hyundai Iona next time round as that suits him muc( better - and when you need to merge quickly it is fast enough. Oh and£ not only is it better than the mini on fuel, at 65 mpg but it’s also 15 to the gallon better than his diesel golf.

Great honest review, as always!!! Shame VW ditched diesel in Tiguan, I guess Skoda will still have diesel available, they might win many customers I think 🤔

In the mid spec versions I’d go for the Kodiak equivalent but in the high spec higher horsepower versions I’d tend towards going back to the Tiggy. It remains to be seen if there’s going to be a performance spec Tiggy or new Kodiak for that matter. Frankly I’d just stick with a 180kw R Line or the full R of the second generation.

Just ordered one

Mother-in-law has just ordered a brand new Polo. I was really impressed with the interior. Not so sure with the Tiguan, particularly with that unnecessary huge screen. I can imagine it felt gutless with that power train. I agree the latest DSG is excellent. Great stuff as always Joe. You should have left the swearing at the voice assistant in though 😅

I’d be interested to see you review a Formentor with the same engine (which I have). I’d definitely say it makes better use of the engine than the Tiguan, certainly doesn’t feel slow, especially with Sport mode engaged.

Your review started with launch control and effectively set the tone for the remainding 16 minutes . Prospective Tiguan purchasers are not expecting a performance vehicle.

How do they manage to keep making these cars slower and slower ? Also it looks like VW stopped making Tiguan R?

The "big" Diesel with AWD is the only engine making sense in a car like this. But most people will buy the petrols or hybrids, w/o missing much. Format: ITs alright, but I'm not sure if you need any "x out of 10" ratings. You're good in talking about the pros and cons, no need to put in into a measurement.

I have just collected my first BMW 118i M Sport with the M Pro pack and it blows VW/Audi out of the water in terms of build quality and refinement and I have owned new Golfs and an Audi A3 S Line

Hi Joe, good review, however do you think the Road Tax over 40k requires reviewing ??? Vehicles with a list price of more than £40,000 You have to pay an extra £410 a year if you have a car or motorhome with a ‘list price’ of more than £40,000. The list price is the published price of the vehicle before it’s registered for the first time. It’s the price before any discounts are applied. You only have to pay this rate for 5 years (from the second time the vehicle is taxed).

Would 1.5 litre 150 bhp still be inadequate if carrying 4 passengers and joining onto a motorway from a slip road for a Volkswagen Golf/Audi A3; given that they are lighter than the VW Tiguan ???

05:30 Hi Joe, I don't really get this point. Even supermini cars such as (e.g. Aygo's, Up's, Polo's etc.) can join a motorway without fear or fault. Plenty of University students have their cars brimmed with stuff as they move around the country and they whiz up the motorway no problem. I just don't think it matters. Planning and preparation is everything in motorway driving.

How is the DSG really doing, especially in traffic or when maneuvering on inclines? I think on the eTSI they use the worst one they have: the dry setup 7-speed DSG DQ200. I really wish Volkswagen would stop ruining their cars for the EU market with these pieces of garbage. If they gave them a proper 8-speed torque converter automatic, they would be perfect cars! We're not talking about a cheap compact neither, this is a £40k SUV and it deserves to feel like one. DSG is the reason why I'm sadly not driving VWs anymore. Please, somebody tell me I'm wrong. Please tell me this car is perfectly smooth in traffic, with a direct feeling and no delays from a standstill, no jerkiness, no indecision. Please tell me that when you drive this car, it feels like it's doing exactly what you tell it to do, and that you don't have to hope it behaves as expected. Please somebody who is used to traditional automatics tell me this is at least as good as those. Although, I feel like I'm right again... 16:13 that doesn't sound like a good launch at all. You can hear the engine cut the power as the DSG dry clutches would fry during a launch. You should hear the engine rev up to 2,000 RPM (or whatever the TC's stall speed is) and build all the torque, so when you let off the brakes, the car really pulls.

Why can't they give it a bit more BHP it sounds so strained! 7 seconds 0-60 would be more acceptable.

Joe I wish you'd stop lying, when do you ever actually sit in the back of any car, lol you're like me you'd rather be driving ! Interesting car though I think the Skoda Karoq is better ! I have to say this review format is superb.

Somehow I feel that your review of a mainstream family car from a non-premium brand would always be tainted with the experience from powerful, fast and expensive cars you usually drive.

I wanted this to be more luxurious at that price point, something that had driveway appeal. I think vw have dropped the ball and it smacks of cutting corners. Skoda do it better.

40k CAD would be insane for a Tiguan, nevermind 40k pounds. Utter insanity.

It's not a review, it's a mediocre advert, negatives are smoothed over so you don't upset the manufacturer and get taken on the corporate first drive days. It'll drive well, like all vws but that is massively over screened it looks horrendous, may as well be driving a transit van.

VW have been getting worse and worse. Having had the previous gen and the Gen before that. I can safely say the 2018 model was the better of all 3. Better value for money and the interior wasnt a cheap shoddy synthetic fabric, boring and cheap plastic screen and interior. They are trying to be modern and it’s completely let down the build quality and design. And for a high spec option touching 50k+ absolutely shocking

It’s a nice looking car. But I think the 1.5 is abit sluggish for such a big car the 2.0tdi will be a better option or even a 2.0tsi 190hp

Great format, overpriced car!

It looks very slick, round, and plastic-like, bubble style with a huge TV that doesn't fit into the design. The way to the successful design is simple, Volkswagen, takes the Touareg and makes a smaller copy of it. Why these round ID's shapes are present where strict forms gone?!
