I had high hopes for some good footage from The New Christs’ gig at the Wombarra Bowlo. It was an intimate setting under a pavilion in soft afternoon light. Thankfully, I snapped off a handful of stills during their first song as I set my recording levels. The second song was “It’s Not a Game” which I was more than happy to start videoing. But then, just I was settling in, the focus went on my camera and no matter what I did I couldn’t get it to refocus. I turned the camera off hoping things would right themselves but they didn’t. In fact, the camera wouldn’t function at all. Took the battery and memory card out. Still wouldn’t work. So I tried to put my frustrations to one side and enjoy the band in the here and now. They were very good and Rob Younger has lost none of his charisma. How I wish I could have captured just a couple of songs.
I didn’t think I’d do anything with the half song I managed to record but I do like this snippet. I know there are lots of other New Christs/Radio Birdman fans out there who might also like a glimpse of this Australian icon. Sorry there’s not more.
Now I’m hoping I can get my camera repaired or I’ll be facing an expensive replacement.
