I had a laugh when after the Doctor explained at lenght all the events that made the goblins latch to Ruby she asked "but why are they harassing Davina mccall" and he just goes "fun" and resumes doing other things lol

Not the first time The Doctor has interacted with mythical characters. Remember that time TARDIS landed in Sherwood Forest?

The Doctor singing doesn't really bother me .... the Third Doctor knew a Martian lullaby and the Second played the recorder....

I think the goblins were meant to add a more supernatural element to it as they are considered supernatural and the bad luck kind of reminds me of gremlins. I think that season 14 will focus more on magic and supernatural and the goblins were a way to ease the audience into that.

I predict they’ll fix the mavity thing by the end of the season…hopefully 😅

Im honestly really excited for this season. You cant watch it and say the new doctor isnt having a FANTASTIC time with the roll, I love the energy. I also thought the goblins were a really fun time, everything just feels very refreshing. I picked a good time to get back into dr who!

Cherry. I've got a feeling that somehow it's Ruby herself that leaves baby Ruby at the church. I think Mrs Flood could be another Timelord. It was a good episode, I am saving judgement on the new Doctor until the new series.

Was really hit by the continuity error in the snowman scene. As the policeman comes along and the doctor is standing by the snowman head we see multiple full views of the tardis in the distance, then when the doctor goes up to the tardis it's tucked behind a wall

I have a mixed review of “The Church on Ruby Road.” I think the actors portraying the new Doctor and Ruby are doing the best they can under the circumstances, but RTD’s writing is weak especially in the third act. The action seems forced, out of character, and missing important context. I am also very concerned about the Disneyfication of Doctor Who reducing the show to generic villains, heroic tropes, and weak dialogue. The show has a history of science fiction overlaid on reality. The goblins appeared to be generic fantasy villains without any explanation of their presence in reality. And as an American, I honestly feared for the Doctor’s life when the police officer approached him and started writing a ticket. I do like the mystery of Mrs. Flood.

I wanted to love if not love this Christmas special. But the narrative and editing fell flat for me. Maybe I expected too much from RTD esp. since it has been over a decade since he helmed DW. I was expecting him to top The Eleventh Hour in terms of a new Doctor introduction, story and feel. This special didn’t live up to that, let alone it seemed more about the aesthetic visuals than the storytelling. Having said that, I love Ncuti and Millie’s chemistry. But now being 4 specials into the new RTD and I, not impressed like I had hopes. Maybe that’ll change…Time will tell…

It's likely Mrs Flood is the one who leaves baby Ruby at the church. I wouldn't be surprised if Ruby is also a timeless child. RTD likes to make the companion all-important.

Yasmin Finny is returning for season 14

The singing scenes reminded me of willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. I thought it didn't fit Dr who. Maybe trying too much to get fans more interested?

This episode looking back… was weird, Gatwa has his own style certainly, I wasn’t sure about it at first but I think I can warm up to him. As for the writing, honestly…it was passable, but not as doctor who. If you showed me this without me knowing it was doctor who I simply wouldn’t enjoy it. The end however picked up, the ending was good. After seeing this and the 60th specials, I’m hopping that season 1/series 14 will pick back up, but I’m sorry, as a whole this is one of the worst episodes I’ve ever seen of doctor who, and I’m one of the people who LIKED the timeless child. Look, I’m not looking to hate on it, I didn’t hate the episode, it was okay, I just didn’t enjoy it till towards the end and I’m going into 2024 with a cautious mind. RTD I love you and I hope this was a fluke, but don’t give up. One thing I hope we see next year is the doctor’s anger, that’s something that was seriously missing here, something to make the doctor angry. He seemed too… sensitive, as someone who’s over 4 billion years old and who’s seen the things he’s seen and done the things he’s done… he was way too positive through most of it, and I know he’s supposed to be a new and refreshed doctor. But it was simply too in your face.

It was great, a crowd-pleasing easy watch for Xmas day with the family. Fans need to remember the show needs to bring in new people and be watchable for family members...

I noticed in some of your videos and podcasts that you usually expect the villain's motivations and grand schemes to be more nuanced. I kinda abandoned this expectation a looong time ago lol.

As long as the singing is a once off kinda thing I don’t mind. Xmas specials allow for a bit of extra fun. So if it was just that it’s fine. I liked Ncuti as the doctor he seems fun. Gibson….not quite to sure how I feel or who she is as a character yet. So we will see. Goblins/Gremlins were a meh and the plot was a bit meh…

Episode was meh and pretty sure all the snowflakes out there will flock to this series and like the goblins gobble whatever rtd shoves in front of them and say more please. Another disappointment in the making for the foreseeable future.

I think Mrs Flood is just going to be the reoccurring side character that everyone is going to end up loving. I don't know think she's anything but that - the cheesy wink and the reference to the TARDIS is just RTD saying come on everyone's heard of the TARDIS esp a lot of new viewers and Americans would know of the TARDIS.

I really enjoyed the episode so I’m carefully excited for the new season. Personally what I find so much fun about the episode is that he already just feels like the doctor, he is just charming guy. I just wanted more of him in this episode which is my major sadness

Production values were high. Some of the controversial elements from the recent anniversary episodes were toned down. The companions acting was very raw. A couple of current and former Eastenders actresses popping up was amusing. Still suffers from over the top and misuse of dramatic music. Good to see "original" creatures even if they were a Labyrinth/Gremlins rip off. Singing seems to be in vogue now - Marvels and Hunger Games. New Doctor is a work in progress that needs to be kept on an even keel. Trailer for incoming May episodes wasn't too exciting. Overall - potential that hopefully isn't squandered

It was appallingly bad

I didn't like it. It was so weirdly rushed and loud 😢 Could barely hear the voices over the music and it was hard to watch and keep up with. There were so quiet moments and odd way to introduce a companion with them being interviewed for TV- really unrelatable. Didnt feel like I knew Ruby or saw her and the doctor meet and get to know one another properly- they were so comfortablr with one another so quickly. The song was so strange and out of place. Nothing about it felt... Real? Then all asudden the doctor was crying over her like what? You barely know who she is??? Very action packed and detached 😢

I'll be honest It was A BRILLIANT EPISODE and I'll be Honest Ncuti Gatwa Is Brillant playing as the Doctor so in other words NCUTI GATWA is the Doctor whether you lot like it or not just get over it already its pathetic and disgusting were all human at the end of the day

It was incredibly good. Gatwa is fantastic and is now my second favorite Doctor (after 11). Mrs. Flood is future Ruby. Obviously.

RTD has fallen flat!! Needed you make this good but let’s be honest! It was poor and lazy writing! Seriously, gremlins turn up to eat a baby?? did anyone even notice the poor editing? when Doctor gets on the ship, it’s travelling away right! But when the doctor leaves the ship? the place they started from is still there like the ship went nowhere????

You people are all totally insane who liked this.. It was more 'Mr Wonka and his glass elevator', (bollywood style) than Doctor Who.. That's it for me.. I'm finally done with it..😂

I like the diversity stuff honestly i think that's all welcome and great and all that jazz. But for me this was just truly terrible. I don't like either the new doctor or the companion, i think their acting is quite wooden and the episode was just all round quite cringe and weird for me

OMG it is sooo refreshing to see a white guy who isn't threatened or triggered by diversity in Dr Who. That's bigD energy all day long! . Concerning Mrs. Flood, in the absence of any more info it's most likely she is UNIT staff. Her personality doesn't match up with the Master or the Rani. If she were a previously known timelord with that kind of personality she could only be Romanadvoratrelundar. ( I love saying that name and so rarely get a chance to do so lol )

Dr. Whosical=Dr. Who cares anymore Christmas specials are allowed some copium, as they are always a bit lame, but if this continues... Houston , we have a problem. This has become tonally rediculous and generally a bad start for gatwas doctor, who generally has so much energy and potential for real momemtum, not this cheap entertainment.

I thought Mrs flood will be the master/mistress. Ruby is a decent companion though do not believe Ncuti as the doctor.

I was bored and it was anything but special. Wasn’t Doctor Who in my view but eh. May new people who say things like ‘fit’ and ‘babes’ and love clubbing… really really love it. I don’t any more.

NO one cares about Dr Who anymore. Just over 4 million watched it live(it should be getting at least double that figure). It will probably turn out Ruby Sunday will be a reincarnation of Clara with a very similar story arc.
