Everyone loves to denigrate the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie, but I thought Mark Strong killed it as Sinestro. Looked and sounded like the cartoons and comics. It was actually one of the first times it felt like a character was perfection from print to live action.

They fucked up with Green Lantern by cancelling the animated series only because the live action was a disappointment. The animated series was very good, and if they at least used as much effort as they put into the animated series, the new live action been a great film.

I'm a huge believer in the theory that the MCU and the DCU are going to cross over which each other in the next ten years. I think there is an even greater story being told here, and the use of certain actors is deliberate by both studios in order to make things even crazier!! What could actually beat Avengers Endgame?? Or Avengers Doomsday or Avengers Secret Wars???? I'll tell you what would!! A cross over between studios for ONE movie, which I always thought would be through Avengers Secret Wars. How?? Doctor Doom comes along in Avengers Doomsday and destroys the entire MCU! And every reality across the Multiverse. Then out of nowhere in a post credit scene, we see a portal open, the area is covered in smoke, and then we see it!! The outline of Superman's diamond shaped chest plate!! And cut to black! It would break the internet like never before!!! And it would put butts in every theaters seat across the world!! I know it sounds crazy and even impossible, but I believe I will get to see this before I die, one way or another!! It's the single largest untapped potential in the entire Super Hero genre!!

They want a sure thing probably since lately i gather that Hollywood is kind of going under at least in the financial sense. Lack of writers because of strikes and producers who want to spend a couple 100 mill on a major motion picture. I think movies are going in a different direction. Brolin ins in every superhero movie it seems now tho.
Because they know that one particular guy can act and keep an audience engaged, even get butts into cinema seats by his name alone. You don't have that with random ass no-name actors no one's ever heard of. Go and announce that you have Amandla Stenberg leading your next big project, see how many people will get excited about hearing that prestigious and well-established name. And then go ahead an invest $100m into your movie only to find out that she can't act for shit. And then release your big project only to have it critically torn to shreds by everyone because she has like 0 onscreen presence or charisma. That's not smart business. You take what you know works, pay $2m extra for that privilege and call it a day instead of risking it all on some up and coming nobody that's potentially gonna burn your entire investment.
The story wasn’t the greatest and your supposed to believe the little mask hid his identity, - the CGI was fine in my opinion, but Ryan himself doesn’t seem to like it .
If you regard Guy, John, Kyle, Jessica, Simon, and rest of the Corps as the most exciting thing about the Green Lantern brand then playing Hal as the tough, old fashioned, veteran cop makes perfect sense. If you see Hal as THE Green Lantern period, then a younger actor would probably be needed to really give him the best hero arc. I always thought Ben Affleck entering the DCU as an older Batman who had already lost a Robin was a missed opportunity.
I’m always supportive whenever people say certain actors are too old to play a role but for green lantern I feel he is too old unless he’s playing a 1 time standalone green lantern movie, he wouldn’t fit the age of Superman or batman

Gardner needs the "dude bro" voice or ginger hair or both. hell no. brolin doesn't fit gardner at all. he doesn't really fit Hal much either but its a bit closer. I would take Brolin as Kilowog i can see him saying poozer and it fits fine. Gardner in every iteration of him showing up ALWAYS comes off as Highschool Football Jock with a Lantern ring Brolin is way to old to pull that off.
Nah they definitely missed with this casting, Brolin would've made a killer Darkseid or general Zod when and if they do those characters. Hot Take: I think Ryan's Green Lantern wasn't all bad and would've found it awesome if they brought him back [again] as a new version of Hal Jordan

As a white boy this is my time to shine. 🤣 Everyone hates Ariel becoming black from continuity issues. I was raised when we had a black Green Lantern and wish we had a black Green lantern based off this character instead, not gonna lie. It works both ways. Just wanting continuity from what we grew up too is the actual issue. No hypocrisy here.
Lowkey I really wouldn’t want Josh Brolin for Hal Jordan and I think it’s a terrible idea to have an older Hal Jordan in the DCU as much as Josh Brolin is a terrific actor These rumors just don’t make a lot of sense
I get it that most dc and marvel characters are similar, but the mcu and dceu have taken things way to far by using the same actors for different roles

John Stewart would be a much better launching point for The Green Lantern. Kyle's story is waaaay too dark, Guy is good, but they're already doing him in Superman. An older Hal might work, but depending on which version of Hal it'll be. Parallax Hal maybe?
@CatotheE Most people don't read the comics that these characters come from, Hal is just a part of a much larger Corp in which most of the iconic stories take place. It's like the whole Barry Allen and Wally West thing where people are familiar with Flash but don't know that their familiarity is based on Wally and not Barry. People who are familiar with Green Lantern generally know of the JLU cartoon series. Or either the Ryan Reynolds version which left a bad outlook for the character. They can come back to Hal and the others at a later time and just include them as if they've always been there.

I hate that we are getting Damian over Dick and Jason. I’d love to see a Batman trilogy where it starts with Bruce taking in Dick, then the sequel being Bruce and Dick fighting crime and butting heads with each other. At the end of the second film Dick walks away. Then have him become Nightwing in the third reminiscing on his childhood as Bruce brings in the new Robin, thus traumatizing him all over again and forcing him to deal with his trauma in a healthy way unlike Bruce. Or same idea for a first but with Jason. Then have Joker kill him at the end of the second and end the trilogy with Redhood and forcing Bruce to deal with his own trauma. That would give 2 solid perfect arcs. With the former setting up more spinoff films leaving Dick being the new big lead and Batman more of the guy needed for the major crossovers. Damian is just a much weaker story comparatively.
Their stories can be done in flashbacks. Easy fix. I actually like it bc then we would've had to wait years for the other stories to be told. This way all they have to do is fill in the gap while still moving forward
If they're going for Justice League International stuff, I really hope the Booster Gold show introduces Ted Kord as Blue Beetle. Maybe tie it into the Jaime Reyes movie with Booster saving Ted who was "lost in time" or something similar in the post credits scene of that movie.
Yeah. It was like the script was written over an afternoon, by someone who knew the very basics of the character (if that). Hey lets merge 3 villains into one. Idiotic. How anyone affiliated with DC could look at the script and say ok was beyond me.
I was hoping for Chris Pine as Hal Jordan. For casting John Stewart, IMO, they should cast Jay Pharoh. Have him bulk up some and he would add some comic relief to Josh Brolin’s Hal Jordan.
That's some bullshit because Warner Bros didn't let zack synder use green lantern in his project just because they were going to make a different project, but they let this guy use them for the DCU? NAHHH, They're tripping..
Next year. They had to finish off the old movies up to end of last year, and movies take a while to do. Especially rebooting an entire universe, it takes time. Marvel is actually in a similar situation ATM. Deadpool and Wolverine was really the only movie to survive, but they're changing plans. They're giving people breaks from superheroes for a bit.

Green Lantern should be DC's playground for doing some Star Wars-y type of stuff all over the universe. The lanterns are kinda like the jedi, and have all different factions like both franchises. So much comic stuff to draw from too, not sure why they never get anything right.
Wonder who would’ve been a better version of Maxwell Lord. Not hating on Sean Gunn by any means, I think he brings a lot of creative dedication to the films he’s in. I just think that some of these parts have nobody auditioning for it.
I had read about Josh Brolin being considered for the role on IG and X (formerly Twitter) but nothing was made official which was weird. They usually do that when him or another actor are brought in by the studio or director. Thank you for clarifying that, Charlie. Now we know.

Josh Brolin is collecting Comic/Book Roles likes he’s Thanos & they’re Infinity Stones. I’m about it! Honestly, I love Brolin so much & missed his presence in “Deadpool & Wolverine” so yeah, let him be Hal Jordan. Bet he’ll be amazing & really fight for a lot of the source material to be in the film(s). 💜💙♥️🧡💚💛

I love the casting for Josh Brolin as Hal Jordan. He was awesome as Jonah Hex and if they bring back Megan Fox to be Carol Ferris as a Star Sapphire that would be epic.
Some people, not all. Believe it or not I still see those upset that Hank Pym was old and wanted him ( and Janet ) on the Avengers instead of Black Widow and Hawkeye because of EMH and the earlier comics. It's not about them being "okay" with this, it's that Hal Jordan has been taking the shaft lately and Hal Jordan fans desperately want the cocky and arrogant test pilot to be adapted properly without him being sidelined or killed off just to prop up another Green Lantern ( John Stewart ). I don't blame them, and this casting choice is understandably ruffling their feathers.
@@Weirdman20 there are some key storylines that happened in the avengers with Hank Pym and was a founding member of it. Even if he wasn’t on the Avengers, still would have preferred Hank Pym Ant Man first over Scott Lang. I liked them going with Josh as Hal. An there are so many awesome Green Lanterns in the corps. A would love for them to show John as he was introduced in the Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams. An who knows how he will or be portrayed in the show. As for Michael Douglas as Hank didn’t like him as it or the character.
Nathan Fillion was my top choice to play Hal Jordan. They're going with an older Hal, what a missed opportunity. Don't get me wrong, I am a Josh Brolin fan, I'm just a bigger Nathan fan. Either way, I'm looking forward to this one, I'm curious to know how young they'll cast Jon Stewart.
Probably young enough that he and Kyle can be used as the new guard vs a Guy and Hal old guard. And pairing lanterns off that way a young rookie and an established old timer could be a way to have as many lanterns as you want while getting to play with all of the cop movie tropes and having comic relief without it being forced.
Dissapointed, wanted a younger Hal, he's my favourite character with Barry Allen a close second. An older Hal will limit the stories they can tell with him, and he had the best stories with Brightest day and Blackest Night, The Sinestro War. This means they'll likely kill him off like they did on the comics.
1. There won't be a Deadpool 4 with the current casting, Ryan Reynolds said he won't do it. Deadpool will pop up in other stuff. Eventually they'll recast, the whole universe is getting a soft reboot after Secret Wars. 2. Cable, Thanos, Jonah Hex, now Hal Jordan? Brolin loves superheroes, doesn't he? 3. I HIGHLY doubt we'll see Brolin as Cable again, aside from possibly Secret Wars. The X-Men in the MCU will be a full reboot. D&W is the beginning of the official closing of the Fox X-Men door. I'm ten seconds in and i already had to rant
Mark Strong needs to come back as Sinestro. He played Sinestro perfectly and his performance may have been the best thing about that movie. When he puts on that yellow ring, that was a level of acting that is about as good as it gets for any DC or Marvel movie.

DC really needs to think twice about this move. Selecting Josh Brolin as Hal Jordan is a dangerous proposition and may send DC into a dumpster fire death spiral right into bankruptcy.
I was soo pissed when they ended the Christian Bale/Christopher Nolan Batman series, setup Joseph Gordon-Levitt American character John (Robin) Blake to be Nightwing, then just walked away and did nothing with it. What a missed opportunity there. If they reboot Flash, please bring in actor Thomas Grant Gustin to reprise the role on the big screen. Sooo sick of DC/WB NOT using well accepted tv actors of characters in movies, another missed opportunity and hoping maybe they correct that in the future.
