This is fully me being transparent and trying to give this thing more than a fair chance. It just does not hold my expectations at all.

Thanks for the video. I had bought the Jsaux heatsink and was going to try to put it on while keeping the HandheldDIY back shell on... but it looks like the best results came from keeping the thermal pad on and not using the Jsaux heat sink.... that's a surprise to me!

I got this a few days ago! Didn’t do any dedicated tests but definitely brought down the temps below 80 when I was getting 90 before hand! Mine didn’t flop out of place. The thermal pads stick in place pretty solid . Maybe you just got a bad one. I’m enjoying the product .

A combination of both the vent that came in with the back plate J whatever it’s called and the last one tested would have been a good idea as it would have helped cool both passively through the added heatsink and the metal vent on the actual backplate

It won’t fit. I tried. There’s gunna need to be some cutting done on the handheld diy backplate. Plus the temps with the hhdiy are 60-70c when gaming at full power. And I need that 2280 support. I’ll try it on the next video since I’ve had people ask tho

have an ignorant/wierd question. judging by your content hopefully you or your community can help. so i noticed previously if i set up a custom fan curve on armory crate it then provides a additional option within the command center (manual with sliders). but if i dont ever create a custom that never shows up which i prefer(just shows 10,15,25) is there a way for me to disable it showing up in command center? removing the custom doesnt change it. as soon as a custom is created those sliders are permently there. not looking to uninstall/ reinstall cuz it will delete my controller layouts. I want to use a custom curve for testing a couple games on 30 watt but i dont want to permently have one more option to scroll through just to test a couple games.

If you’re only seeing 23 it’s one of two things. Either the game you play isn’t needing anymore, cpu boost is disabled or there’s potentially thermal limits being hit and it can’t boost that high. What id do is open cinebench, plug in and set to 30w turbo, run the test. Drop in my discord and show me what your results are. Also time spy is another good test if you have it. That way I can gauge and see if your having some performance loss some where. I use also hwinfo to monitor and log temps in background while running benchmarks and it will even tell you if your thermally throttling. Open it and check box for sensors only if it’s the first time using it

Even if you can keep it from leaking out from underneath the heatsink, the biggest problem with the liquid metal is that it eventually alloys itself with the metal of the heatsink and turns it to crap. It's similar to the effect of mercury coming into contact with aluminum. It eventually alloys with the aluminum and the aluminum becomes incredibly brittle and just crumbles. I don't know exactly what it does to copper, but you can see in the one picture you put up where it alloyed there too. You'll eventually end up needing to replace the heatsink either way. It's really interesting stuff and incredibly good as a thermal interface material. It's the best thing out there if your thing is putting up crazy OC numbers, but just not worth the trouble it brings if you want to use it as a long term solution since you'll be forced to replace the cooler at some point when the liquid metal alloys the cooler block. As for that heatsink, I have some double sided thermal tape that would work really well for that kind of thing. But once it sets, you're probably not getting it back off that heatpipe without mangling that heatpipe. The stuff sticks almost like epoxy after it has been through a few thermal cycles. But I don't think I would bother with it. The HandheldDIY backplate has been great as far as I'm concerned.

Would require a lot of cutting on the handhedldiy backplate to fit and also you can’t use a 2280 which is primarily what I use. The temps on the handheld diy backplate are already epic when gaming. What if you used the Heatsink from Jsaux with a modified pad from HandheldDIY to make it thinner and the backplate of HandheldDIY. would that be the ultimate setup?
@cppctek
@cppctek 5 месяцев назад
Too many clearance issues. Would require goood bit of cutting of the hhdiy backplate to make it work by the looks of it. Plus still would need thermal pad and then it also prevents the use of a 2280 nvme which was the bigger drawback for me and many. I think what would work though is possibly getting a bandsaw and hacking this thing in half length wise and making room for the nvme and then it might serve some purpose but minimal I’d assume. I may test it if I get a bandsaw

Disappointing product, the stickiness IMO isn't a big issue, because I don't expect much from thermal putty. But the lack of force pushing the plate is. I got their backplate and I like it, this feels like a half-baked product. I think just ordering a big, thick piece of good quality thermal putty is a better idea and could net you better temps too (there's an idea for a follow up video!).
