Those saying it should have colour display - buy the 52! I actually prefer mono lcd when outdoors. The issue is the price. FT-70 is a nice entry to fusion for about £170, and theres rhe FT-5 if you want something fancy. Cheapest way into dstar is this ID-50 at £450, its just too much and limits dstar adoption imho. Such a shame as dstar is fantastic and, unlike fusion, hotspot users and repeater users use the same reflectors.

furthermore the 52 doesn't have usb-c, which is a big deal

El problema de ICOM y D-Star se llama " Yaesu + C4FM ". Con el FT-70 tienes portátil para largo y con una mejor calidad de audio digital que D-Star. El D-Star tiene que mejorar, e ICOM tiene que reducir precios, u ofrecer algún portátil más barato y con menos opciones. Lo digo sin tener ninguno " pero habiendo escuchado todos ". Solo tengo C4FM con la FTM 300 de Yaesu y os puedo asegurar que se escucha mucho mejor el digital que D-Star. Veo que el D-Star se escucha más robótico o marciano😅. Pero bueno... Es una grandísima radio la ID-50, pero muy cara!.

Really like my ID-51A. So much so that I got another one cheap at a Hamfest which had a couple of extra batteries included. Cannot see a reason to get an ID-50, which seems like the same as the 51A but in a newer looking case. Thanks for showing!

I have an icom 5100 not a handheld but it does everthing this does for about the same price. I think everyone wants something in the $200 to 300 range. For now i will stick with cheap beater radios for handhelds anyway.

Analogue APRS would have made this a decent radio at that price. I do like the display though, clean and readable.

Nice piece of kit, but no APRS support (SOTA spotting, etc) is a deal-breaker for me. Unfortunately, even the ID-52 doesn't have that..

I agree, I mean if your a hardcore HT user, storm chaser etc etc I can see it...I wish that they would offer more HT radios with a band scope

For the nearby repeater function, do you need to store the repeaters on a micro sd card or can you store them on the radio itself? Also, I must be the only person out here who actually prefers a non-color display!!

Icom always make a good product, but I think it too close in price to the ID52. They should have left out a few features, perhaps dual watch and GPS and priced it nearer £300. Then it could be the entry level Dstar handheld and the ID52 the top of the range.

I think i keep my id-51. Nothing new i want. Band scope on an ht is not useful for anything. But its a nice radio, but no need to upgrade.

back to the adult world away from the kindergarden. this display can be read w/o backlit energy consumption - sunlight is enough - the battery will be pleased. Its main purpouse is voice communication, not playing tetris.
