I bought this system a few months ago and tested them in the field during a 2-week trip in the US and I’m pretty satisfied. Very convenient. I think there is no way back to screw-on filters after that. If you buy a kit, I don’t think you can buy the cpl+nd filter combination. You have to buy them individually. Also if your lenses have different filter thread size, you have to buy the filter size that matches at least the largest thread and then that means you can’t use the lower profile ring anymore.
Picked up the Revolution Filters a few weeks ago. I tossed the lens ring thingy (the one that needs the 'wrench' tool to install). I use Nikon and the Kase lens hood ring fits in the Nikon hood that comes with the 14-24 2.8 and wonderfully that hood fits my 24-70 2.8 and 50 1.2 and 85 1.2 (a strategy shown me by another RU-vid photog vlogger). Anyway I hadn't used filters much (don't do much landscape work) but with these thin and magnetic filters and a hood that becomes the filter holder I'm regularly using them (NDs) especially on the 1.2 lenses on sunny days for street photography. Thanks for the review and for your input to the manufacturer -- I think the colour coding is great.
I have checked out the Kase magnetic low-profile system and I am sold on it. At present, I have 82mm screw-in filters with a 77mm step-up adapter ring. The problem I have with them is that you decide to change to a 10 stop ND from a 6 and it decides that it will not unscrew from the adapter ring! You try gently, then a little more force which is about the time you want to skip the entire filter and adapter across the pond! Thanks for the info Adam!
Thanks Adam, it’s good to see how they work for real rather than just a web page. I’m looking to upgrade to a set of circular magnetic filters, but I’ve yet to find a decent brand that offers a UV/protection filter. Kase has one built into an adapter but I don’t want it on all the time, just when I’m in environments where I’d like to give the lens a little more protection.
I have the KASE Wolverine ND Pro filter set (didn't want to pay an extra $100 for the coloured ones as I can just use a marker pen to differentiate between them). What you fail to mention is that you can't stack the standard ND/CPL filters without vignetting. What you need to do is buy the next size up from your largest lens diameter that you intend to use and use the step-up rings that are available. Now you can stack at least one ND and a CPL with no vignetting. Works the same for the Revolution series.
I've been using the Revolution set for a while now but I really need stronger single filters. Ideally I'd like to see 13- and 16-stop filters in the Revolution series. Stacking the CPL, 10- and 6- stop filters isn't practical because of the crazy amount of vignetting you get but a native 16- and a CPL would be fine.
Looks pretty awesome. As did the last 3 sets of filters I bought in as many years (2 from Kase UK). I'm sure one day I'll cave and buy them. Then a couple months later Kase will come out with some new and improved technology that I can't live without (self cleaning filters?? 😅). Lol. Bonus to getting these is the box adorned with one of your photos! 🎉😊
@@QuietLightPhoto ugh... terrible. GAS mixed with FOMO. LOL. In my defense, I bought my 2nd set of Kase because I bought a new lens. Needed an 82mm filter ring instead of 77mm. Then gave my old set away. My newest set are color coated but a lot of good that does when I can't remember which color goes with which filter. 😂😂😂. I'm hopeless 🙄
Hi Adam, I bought a full set of Round, Magnetic, Kase Wolverines a couple of years ago after I saw you using them and have been very happy with them. (Especially compared to other brands I'd tried) They are now permanently in my bag. A quick question though. Do you happen to know if the Kase square filter holders can be integrated into the round filters. I'd like to occasionally use a graduated filter(s) with my existing system. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Scott
Hi Adam. Loved your video. I am new to the Kase family of filters coming over from another brand. I like them very much and your video just highlighted some new filters that I never knew existed that combined the neutral density along with the UV light or Polarizer. I have all of those filters separately and I’m wondering if I need to invest in the additional combination filters which sounds so wonderful? Just a quick point that you may want to make to the company Kase if you have any input: I have also noticed about those inlaid ring adapters that you mentioned at the end of this video. I actually purchased them in all sizes for all my lenses from 62 mm Onto 72, 77, and 82. I also attempted to purchase the revolution style lens caps which were sent to me by B&H Photo in error and needed return. They sent me Wolverine lens caps, which do not work on my lenses with those in adapters. I’ve tried to get the correct lens caps from the company case to no avail. Please tell them to start making the new revolution lens cap for all their lenses so we can never again have the heartache of having a lens cap fall off And hit the ground. Ha ha just a suggestion. Subscriber thank you again.
So many choices out there for filters it gets confusing, this looks like a great set, will the magnetic ring cause any vignetting when using wide lenses? Thanks for sharing Adam.
I have a little bit of an issue, when I stack the CPL + ND + caps when I want to take off the cap everything comes with, I mean the CPL+NDfilter. With a pair of gloves it's funny. The magnetic is quite strong that's a good thing but to separate them it's not so easy.
Hi- I tried a set and mechanically they work well, including their magnetic lens hood (uhh, not on a windy day with the 82mm, but the 67 hood has a lot more magnetic grip). HOWEVER- I found a hefty colorcast to them, about 120˚ per stop (red/ orange). For the 10 stop I had to cool the temp in post about 1200˚ to get close to neutral. This wouldn't be a big deal, but I found about 20% of the time I couldn't correct it with the kelvin slider alone. I had to make some presets for each color channel (R/G/B) to fine tune the cast. Of course, one could take a shot without the filters so one has a clue in post, or use a grey card, etc, but that is more effort. I found Maven filters with the same ring color coding and they are completely neutral. Of course, if you are happy with warm color casts, then go for it. I reluctantly returned my set, but kept the magnet hoods which happen to work with the Maven filters. My existing lens hoods do not fit over Maven, but they did with Kase. I was quite fond of the inner magnetic ring (does NOT work with Maven). There you have it.
Yes, it's strange with all the sources telling me how neutral they are. I sent screenshots to Kase showing the issue side by side with ND and no ND per stop, but no answer. I assumed the neutral blather was the sales Pinocchio effect. I have a concrete driveway, and with the 10 stop it is clearly orange. Same with the paved road out front. I do use Leica lenses and Capture One, but it's hard to believe those could be the reason. Beats me- I do wish they had worked out. Great channel, by the way.@@QuietLightPhoto
Thanks for sharing. They sound like great filters to have. Just curious how well do they do with step up rings? For my current system I need to the rings for at least two of my lens.
@@QuietLightPhoto Awesome! I probably use my filters more often if I didn't have to mess with the taking to step up rings everytime I want to change a filter or lens.
@@CalebWeston_dubland I just leave the step-down ring on each lens and use one of the KASE magnetic lens caps. The only problem that you will have is not being able to use the dedicated lens hood.
Not necessarily a question about the Revolution set but one about the magnetic filters themselves. I saw someone on RU-vid saying he was done with the magnetic filters due to them losing their strength over a fairy short period of time. Has anyone mentioned this to you, or have you ever experienced it?
Interesting! With that slim magnetic ring that sets into the lens, I assume you buy the filters at the same size as your lens, rather than buying larger filters with step rings to adapt. Yes? I have a Hasselblad X2D and my lenses all have a 72mm barrel, so seems like I should just get a set of 72mm Case filters dedicated to that system.
I use the X2D with Kase filters. You need the magnetic 72mm rings for each lens - in my case the 38mm and 55mm. You then purchase the filter set separately. Works very well as demonstrated by Adam Gibbs, whose videos got me interested in the kase filter system. Hope it works for you.
MAVEN FILTERS - Maven are simular in concept and colour coded and are a American Business. Had them for a year now and very pleased as give near no colour cast
You would have to use a step up ring which unfortunately will be a bit bulkier. I have to use one on my 100-200mm that goes from 67mm I believe to 82mm. All of my filters are 82mm
Do the filter adapter rings still need to be screwed in? This is going to be frustrating, as I have a Fuji XT5 that uses a 72mm filter , and my canon lenses are all 77 and 82 . So imo I thought buy the 82mm kit , then the adapters. I didn’t really want to leave an adapter on the smaller lenses though and thought it would be nice if they were magnetic to
You would purchse the magnetic ring that insert into the barrel of the lens and leave those in permanently. The rings are small so you can hardly notice them. Inser one of them in each lens that needs the step up ring and then you can simply move the step up ring from one lens to the next withoiut much fuss. Hope that helps.
@@QuietLightPhoto ok I should have said step up ring . So the step up ring does not screw in ,it magnetically couples to the insert you install in the lens. That’s awesome .
Ive been using round screw in filters for a while and am considering shifting over to the square filters. My question, with round filters (particularly a grad ND), the grad portion of the filter goes directly through the center thereby forcing you to keep the horizon in the center (removing my ability to put the sky in upper third for example). Am I over thinking it or can you do that with round filters?
You don't mention in the video. How you can use a grad filter with the system. I presume a circular filter will vignette if even able to stack 3 filters. CPL. ND and grad, So will the magnets be strong enough to hold a K8 Holder. Or should we use the Armour system ?
Different system. Revolution filters are a stand alone set. To my knowledge they will Not work with a K8 holds The armour system is better if you use grads
@@gamewebland@gamewebland possible Kase UK? Their prices and shipping are comparable, and if you can't find what you're looking for, they are very helpful in looking for you.
I have lenses with different size filter threads . I hope i'm not asking a daft question but i'm going to ask it anyway . Would i need a different size set for each lens ? I hope i haven't missed this question in a previous comment .
You would purchase filters for the largest diameter lens and use step down rings for the other lenses. Unfortunately you can’t use lens hoods very easily with the step down rings. Kase does offer a universal lens hood that would work if it is a problem
Dear Adam Need your help on the below - I was told that in order to prevent vignette one can order for a step up ring. Can you pls let me know whether this combo is ok? For Nikon 24-70 mm f2.8 1) 95 mm Filter Kit Pro 2) 82-95 mm step up ring For Nikon 70-200 f2.8 1) 77-95 mm step up ring For Nikon 14-24 mm f2.8 1) Please let me know what size of step up ring I need for this lens
The first lenses will work with what you have listed. The 14-24mm you would have to get a special holder. I’m not sure if Kase sells any type of holder for that lens. If the do then you might want to check if the 95mm can be used with step down rings. The other thing is that I’m not sure if Kase makes step up rings that big
Nick Page reported that his Kase filters lost their magnetism over time, and there were several comments on his video confirming the same. I don't suppose you have had these filters long enough to observe this, but do you know if Kase addressed this issue with these new filters?
We wish that Kase would use stronger magnets to hold the filters on the camera. Our friends have switched to systems with stronger magnets or use ugly tape to keep fillters or lens cover from getting knocked off in the field or in camera backpack. We try to be very careful, but even though we like to way the filters work, we won't be buying them or recommending them until this problem is fixed.
