Congratulations for your idea ! I use the monkeys fist on almost every long rope I have, not only ridge lines, although it's a heavier solution. However, I don't pass the fist inside a loop, simply make a overhand knot around the three and place the fist on the hidden side, it will lock there. If the bark is slippery I make a double overhand. A bit lazy, but effective, adjustable and fast fits any diameter, even in stress situations. BTW, I use old computer mouse balls inside the fist. Cheers !
This is interesting and for me might be useful in a car camping situation. Thanks for sharing. As a thru-hiker I haven’t carried paracord in decades. Too heavy. I switched to Zing-(Dyneema) 1.75mm for my food bag and ridge line applications when carrying a hammock.
A lot can be learned from thru-hiking, I walked the Camino last year (a different type of hiking experience but learned a lot from the experience). Thanks for sharing
Love the idea of the monkey fist and the prussik to cinch around a tree! I usually use a rock bag attached to a carabiner then go through the whole process, the monkey fist cuts out the search for rocks and skips a step (lowering and attaching)! Welp...I know what I'm going to do later on! I enjoy your channel, and your instructions are clear and concise. Thank you!
I have a similar set up. I’ve incorporated several best practices, but the monkey fist on the running end of the ridge line is money. I don’t have a prusik on mine… yet😉
Ok, this was pretty interesting! I have a longish paracord with several prusiks on it to hang a tarp, has worked for me. I usually use a hammock so don't need anything fancier. I use prusiks to tighten my line too. But maybe I should make some kind of toggle, your's looked pretty basic and actually useful enough to encorporate in my setup. That one tarp setup in the beginning reminded me of Finnish loue, it is a neat way to get a solid shelter. I slept in one in May the First, Worker's Day. It started raining in the evening and eventually turned to snow but I was warm and cozy under my tarp. It is perhaps my favourite shelter.
