I have been wondering the same thing. I have seen about half a dozen RU-vidrs do comparison tests and they are all using the standard, not HP, battery. I am sure the Edge is better than the HP also but would be nice to see how much better.

Hey Mark Thomas! Good Evening! Nice presentation package by Ryobi, and nice review by You. There is an obvious difference here. On the saw test, when You first started ripping with the newer battery, it was as if You ‘sped up’ the video! It made a huge difference. Not a real Ryobi fan, but glad to see they are getting some new tech. TTI has to do a ‘balancing act’ with regards to their different product lines, and so Ryobi, Ridgid, etc., sometimes take a backseat to Milwaukee. But choice is good, and so is ‘competition.’ Hi Leo, and Hi Oakley! Take care stay safe! 👍👏🤝🇺🇸 🐶🐶😊

Hey George! Thanks, hope all is well! Yes, there's a big difference between the 2 batteries. I meant to show normal speed on most of the first rip cut tests, but my editing didn't exactly end up like I planned. Hopefully the stopwatch times gave you a good idea of the difference. I was excited how fast the 2" selfeed bit went through the pine with the new EDGE Battery. I may have to test that out against some other tool brands. Thanks for stopping by! It’s definitely worth the upgrade when the deals start coming out with those batteries! I was really hoping these tool manufacturers would embrace the pouch cell technology. Although seeing how well this tabless cell technology is playing out, I wonder if the companies went to this style because it was cheaper than the pouch style?

Ryobi makes great cordless tools. If you need power make sure you get the higher end Ryobi brushless tools. Performs similar to Milwaukee brushless.

Definitely seems like it has more power. Nice upgrade to 18v platform. I have the Ryobi 6.5” 18v circular saw which is light weight, but it cuts out too much. It needs more power. Next upgrade will be a Makita 40v 6.5” circular saw. How does the new ryobi compare to Makita 40v? Not apples to apples but it would be good to see if it’s worth it to spend extra money on Makita 40 or maybe the new tabless Ryobi is a good upgrade at a reasonable price.
