They are not car guys company. Tesla motor actually create some noises, but they were muffled. I want fun electric cars to become a thing. For car to be fun there needs 3 things: - Fast acceleration (EVs have this) - The feeling you drive (Every car can have it, but Tesla doesn't. Also manual transmission helps for this) - Sounds (Proven some EVs can have it). - Can be modificated (EVs kinda struggle with that. But there is a hope, that there are k-ion batteries, which even if in early stages of development, they are much cheaper, with higher energy density and, but regulate very powerful cooling system, because they not only generate more temperature, but also so they can work properly, they need to be cooled down under 0°C.

Formula 1 can't last a whole fuel-tank per race either. Formula E is not an attempt to produce the fastest car as such, but to test the limits of electric technology so it can trickle down into your Honda Civic and make it better. That said, I think Tesla are doing a better job than Formula E. Formula E are potentially going driverless, Tesla have been doing that for a while now...

Sorry to break it to you, but combustion engines will have to go someday, just like steam engines did. Its only a matter of time. But don't worry, before that happens you'll either be dead or too old to care, no offense.

ABilly05 That is why I'm going to start studying Electromobility at a university later this year. My dream is it to help develop electric and hybrid technology and make this technology accesible to everyone. Especially to 3rd world countries.

The racing isn't nearly as fast as F1, and there are some points that people will be divided on, but I think that - especially for its first year as a brand new sport - it's done remarkably well, and I can only hope the speeds and excitement improves overall. It was also, arguably, one of the best driver line-ups of any series this year. Some great talent throughout the field.

Maybe that bad sound is a case in formula e, but with normal electric car its not an issue. Listen for example, to Tesla Model s engine sound, which is like a mix of jet engine and spaceship sound ;p Its sounds cool.

+montenague naaaaah. i know you're exaggerating on purpose, but they have pretty decent torque (a bit over half of what the last v8 f1 cars had) that's always available and low weight. it'd take no less than insufficient grip for them not to be able to climb stuff. inclines wouldn't make that much of an impact. and i genuinely think this series is better than current formula 1. at least the first season was.

There IS a gearbox and you can hear the shifting right on the first car.

+Mladen Milić if you studied engineering, you would hear the whine of the straight cut gears and the audible changes in pitch when they shift, granted it is hard to tell it apart from the whine of the motor.

That whine is from differential . It is very hard for me , as I grew up during V10 era of F1, I like fast cars ; but I also hate pollution , go where ever I can by bicycle , train , tram or trolleybus and I want to make EV by myself . It is possible to make electric motor to produce sound like V10 , but it would have to have 5 phases . If you watch spectrum analisis of sound of Formula E car , you would have that it has same base spectrum as 120 degree V6 .

well yes the diff makes a whine but most of the noise you hear is from the motor and gearbox, granted one of these cars sounds like its just using a final drive. I too grew up in the v10 era, I was at silverstone for the final appearance of a Ferrari v12 in 1996 and still dream about the sound, but pollution in formula E is just as high as any other race series, the cars and equipment are all moved using diesel trucks, ships or aircraft all over the world, the fuel used by the cars during any race weekend is negligible. sure electric power is good, but were in a fucked up world where the throw away almost everything we buy, I'll keep burning V power in my 20mpg R53 for now thanks.

+Mladen Milić Dude, the whine is from gearboxes. Some of the cars run multiple gears. Don't butter it up or make excuses. It's gearboxes. It's that simple.
