Great review of the ever changing Soi 11. I remember it 20 years ago when it was still mainly houses and the occasional club - the Q bar and the Bed Supper Club (a Phillipe Starke masterpiece I believe). One final thing - take care Jerome, by now you should know the cyclists are the lowest of the pecking order only to pedestrians! I want you safe)
I recently stayed on Soi11 and found that it's only good after 5pm, during the day, it was very difficult for food options as most places were closed during the day except for The Coffee Club. I eat more Thai foods than Western also.
We loved the Tapas Cafe. Before Bangkok, me and Mirela lived in Madrid for 6 years and when we just arrived in bangkok (13 years ago) Tapas Cafe had the orginal Spanish tasting Tapas.
My first time in BKK in 2016 I stayed in Soi 2 and remember walking "all the way" to Soi 11 to visit the famous Cheap Charlies. I ate once or twice at the restaurants back behind it, but can't remember if I had tapas. 11 is a different world now. I still visit CC in On Nut when I'm down that way.
So weird to see a fellow Dutchman wearing a bicycle helmet. For us it's like swearing in church, but I totally understand because BKK traffic is mental.
04:32 you forgot the night club “ Levels “ It was a good place 7-8 years ago.. and 05:51 “ Nest “ It is a nice chill out place on roof bar with sand areas .. And I didn’t see “ Oskar Bistro Bar “ It is good quality place too..
Hello. Would you suggest to stay at soi 11 for the first time visitor or ??? I would like to stay near a grocery stores, bars/restaurants and public transportation. Thank you ?
Singapore is a neighboring country, having more than 1.1 lbs of cannabis on your person when coming to Singapore may get you the death penalty, just saying😁
crazy how fast things change in Bangkok. I was there in Nov22, went to Phuket for a week, came back and even in that short time there were parts of Soi11 I didn't recodgnize. Some things just vanished, others opened up. Seriously crazy. btw, the open air bar/ rastaurant bar you were showing at 3:01 also moved to Soi 7/1? Do you know something about their wehereabouts? I liked to hang out there.
@@globaltravelmate I think you are referring to the beer bar complex on Soi 7 (not Soi 7/1). Soi 7 has the famous Bier Garten, just past the beer bars, as you walk down from Sukhumvit Road.
@@padthaipaul9849 Hi Paul, probably some of the bars also relocated to Soi 7, that makes sense. I know that the Orange Bar moved to 7/1 where you have the massage places 🙂
All of those bars are gone, was it because they had no customers? We must be the only dinosaurs that would prefer a pint or two and a quiet meal for our night out. We’ll pass on cocktails and live music. For us Bangkok was an economical part of our life enjoying Canadian winter by not being in Canada.
Been to Panacea a few times. I liked it. I always walk past Finch but never bothered to go in. It looked like a "girly bar/hostess bar." Now I know it's not...I'm going to check it out. Also didn't know it was that big.
Went there 2 months ago and couldn’t wait to move on, the music isn’t what I call music(not the same as in video), more like some kind of drum n bass whilst trying to eat.Very dirty and sewer rats running around. Sin city comes to mind really. There are so many wonderful places to visit in Thailand this is not one of them.Oh and be pre warned they will try and rip off tourists like 1200 baht for a gram of weed £30, I couldn’t stop laughing
That Finch place is way too noisy. Can’t take a date there. At least a first date. No way to talk. The guy playing the clarinet right there. The place looks small too. Oh well.
A real shame to see Soi 11 gentrified where little bars and restaurants have to go, only to be replaced by a 25-storey hotel and artsy restaurants. Gonna find me some new places to roam I suppose... any suggestions?
The Australian pub where I watched the Ashes in 2019 is gone. Most of the patrons were English expats. Funnily enough, the Australians are back in England for the Ashes next week. Unfortunately, Finches bar will keep the guests next door in The Grand Business Inn awake with their music until 4AM. I know from the previous Indian owned bar keeping me awake last time I stayed there four years ago.
Great videos. I recall when my father-in law Tim rented an apartment in Krystal Court (Soi 7) and when we visited from New Zealand we would walk through an alleyway from Soi 7 to Soi 11 and go to some of the bars there. Great memories of the area. Would love to get back and see the changes.
wow so many changes, I am sure the Manchester United Bar, used on soi 11 back 2008 went their a few time and met my hero Bryan Robson. It great how Bangkok is evolving from when I lived there way back 2007/08, I think I will have shock when I come back this year, it great see that Bangkok is moving forward. thank you for sharing
