Ever wonder the technique players are using to have these NHL shots? The key lies in the flex of the stick and the body's rotation. In this video Jason explains how shooting has evolved and how you can use something from the Slingshot Shooting System to give you a bullet of a release.
So what not to do? Lean on your stick. Jason is quick to break down why leaning on your stick disrupts your balance and makes it easier for goalies to read your shot. While some flexion in your stick is essential, leaning on it throws off your equilibrium, affecting your precision.
Discover how modern players like Elias Pettersson and Connor Bedard achieve stick flex without sacrificing balance. They use a lower flex stick and emphasize the pullback, allowing them to shoot harder while maintaining control. The key lies in the rotation and stick flex, not just the flex itself.
Learn the slingshot technique, a part of the Slingshot Shooting System taught in our Train 2.0 Plus Membership. This system enables players to achieve a smooth release effortlessly, avoiding predictability and enhancing shot accuracy. Elias Pettersson, at his size, wouldn't be able to shoot as hard as he does unless he used this technique. The challenge, as always, is in mastering the technique, creating enough time and space to use it and developing quick hands.

Darryl Belfry says to push down on the stick for an in-stride shot or a blade side foot inside edge shot. Is he correct or wrong about this? Those 2 shots aren’t train2.0 shots so it may be different.

Not right or wrong, just a different style. Though according to another Train 2.0 video, goalies have become accustomed to the Belfry style so it's not as effective in the higher levels at this point.

Like James said, this was really popular 10-15 years ago with that style of shot. I reference this in another video.

It’s not a new technique 😂it’s been around for about 15-20 years Sean Skinner started it and Daryl Belfry fine tuned it 👍🏽

I mean, both Brett Hull & Mark Messier both had this modern shooting style way back then, even to the point of Austin Matthews toe drag-in shot was done by Brett Hull over 30 years ago... These aren't new techniques, just the current stick technology makes the technique easier to access now, but they aren't new techniques...

but the throw with a quickdraw is not so effective and not sharp ((And Bedard’s throw is not with a quickdraw, but with retracting and snapping
