An interesting trivia fact about this episode:when viewers read the opening credits, the credits read "TELEPLAY BY LOGAN SWANSON. BASED ON THE SHORT STORY BY RICHARD MATHESON.' In reality, Richard Matheson wrote the teleplay, byt when he saw the episode, he thought the producers did such a bad job that he requested that his name be removed from the credits. That's when he came up with the pen name "Logan Swanson".
@MyBabypies Right, I met her a couple times in the late '90s, when she was on tour on the west coast with her band. Truly the nicest performer I've ever met. Everyone should watch 'Georgia' to see Mare as the excellent actress she is.
Heck, people do that all the time today! Have you ever seen the back of an appartment that's close to a grocery store. There's tons of shopping carts just sitting there!
They made this into a movie not that long ago....something like the box or something with Cameron Diaz. Exactly the same but they get a million if they push the button. Good movie
My literature teacher began reading the short story to my class today n waited to the end of class to began just to leave us hanging lol well I'm super curious so reading it n watching the episode.! I'm a student eager to learn.!
LOlz. I swear they use the same apartment building for every movie where "po' peepl live". Karate Kid, Pulp Fiction, etc.... Good post, though. My first time seeing this. Nice.
Sobre as partes que as legendas não abrangem: Norma Lewis: I don't know what I think! It's such an effort not to think about it. [Sei sei o que pensar. É um esforço tão grande não pensar nisso.] Arthur Lewis: It's murder! [É assassinato.] Norma Lewis: Oh come on! I mean what if it was some old Chinese peasant [um camponês Chinês] or something? Or somebody with cancer?
The husband was the lead in the movie Midnight Express. Hard to believe how bad he is in this short. The stutter must have been some device to make his character more pathetic. Hilarious acting. They are so over the top that it's bad good.
ive been looking for a short version of this one that is funny and about 6 min long, with riding dirty background sone when man delivers money if anyone knows please send note thanx
@mennyus Just goes to show that what made the original Twilight Zone great was not only the plot behind every story but the well developed characters and superb acting. Yeah, I agree about the acting but you have to admit that the script is not really helping; great idea for a story, but it was poorly executed. I was gonna request the DVD from Netflix thinking it would be like the original Twilight Zone but now I think I'll pass.
My main question from this is that when he takes the box to someone she doesn't know, they will die, it's implied. My question is if they don't push the button will still die, because so I think I may have to push the button
+Kam Roberson Given that 2 persons dies basically every second in the world, if someone is silly enough to give you $1M to push a button on an empty wooden box, it would be really silly not to do it... :)
Since you said this, I have to warn a Spoiler Alert. To answer your question, if the next person doesn't push it, they are safe from the next next person that gets it. If that next next person decides to push it, it skips the good person, and it will be you that pays for it. ;)
OMG dont you remember that Cameron Diaz movie called The Box A small wooden box arrives on the doorstep of a married couple, who know that opening it will grant them a million dollars and kill someone they don't know. .. so right now I'm at time 3:15 so I wonder...
this.is.unwatchable. i read the preview on amazon and wanted to see the story further developed, but i'd sooner rip my eyes out than torture myself by watching these abysmal performances
I love Mare Winningham, but I've never seen her like this. Her, and the men - such incredible over-acting, what's the deal?! Bad director, I think. 'The Box' is bad too, I don't know how anyone could think that was good merely because it pays closer attention to detail.
This is very true :) Although in the 1980s, Mare Winningham was a much better actress than this (she'd been in St. Elmo's Fire and a few other movies) and the standards even on TV sitcoms were higher than this. It was obviously done in this exaggerated manner on purpose, though for what reason I can't imagine! I remember watching this in it's original run and wondering why they were speaking like this. I'd still love to know...
