I was holding off for your specific review in order to buy this. The video is finally here, great content like always and of course, convincing. Making my purchase from your link right now🤓
Among the not so expensive: RG556 for ergonomics, Retroid Pocket 4 Pro for power and, much probably, the yet to release Retroid Pocket 5 for a mix of both. And remember: if you really enjoy one specific model but its sticks are bothering you, you always can tear it apart and change them for better ones if a simple cap swap/addition not solve.
Honestly, i love it when you do videos with characters' interaction. My fav video you have done is the odin 2. I love that you were using mythology with your content. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you.
My only mistake was allowing my wife to persuade me into buying the gray one instead of the black. RG406V is, so far, truly a king of vertical retro consoles...
The 405V was my first handheld and the one that got me into this hobby. I was super excited when the 406V was announced I bought it right away. I love how chunky and full of charm it is.
I love your content. You really put your heart to it (don't know if you have read the manga Gundam, but Alita wagers literally her heart att a armwrestling competition. That's how it feels). And you can feel that through your work. You mamma should be proud. We love you. ❤
Could you make a video where you show us how to set this up? Including which emulators to use, how to tweak their settings to make them look great. I know, I know, it would he an hour long video, but setting up an Android device is the biggest nightmare I've ever encountered in the history of gaming, but I really love everything else about this device except the fugly color options.
100% really wanted to get a linux device, but this one looks great plus linux ones tend to be underpowered for psp and more demanding stuff. On the other hand no portmaster, which is sad honestly
@@Omgtired Same bolts screwed with different tools. Much of what you can run with portmaster is already natively ported to Android or you can run with a DOS or other specific emulator for the said content...
Just bought one and it is coming. Problem of living so near to Shenzhen, you get these electronic things cheap and easy, I just bought too many of these.
"CubeSP" or "CubeXXSP"? looks niceI but guess something more like a "406SP" should be a bit more reasonable despite maybe yet having some need to turn a device like this more thicker due to the thermals.
The RG405V was my entry into the world of handheld emulation devices and I loved it. Moved onto the RG556, and then last month bit the bullet and got an Odin 2 Pro to last me a long long time... so it's nice to see the device I started with get a new revision! BUT at $219, you can pay $80 more and get the Odin 2 now... for me, the extra eighty gets you SO much more...
Anbernic RG556 already is the vertical counterpart of this one - but if you are talking about a 4" 4:3 display, so.. ok... ... for now, since it could be what Reroid Pocket Mini are trying to do (being also yet more performant despite costing a bit more).
I jumped on this one because it won't be replaced by a better Vertical for a long time in my opinion. Every other handheld I have is horizontal and too small for my hands. Even gpd win4. OLED screen would be great but the screen is so good too
@@Aaron-ge7ho It's Anbernic so they'll likely be an H version within a few weeks . As for the RG556, I'm also expecting thst'll get a "make over" shortly after, in order to compete against the RP5 (it might possibly even be next in line). Hopefully, it'll have a better performance SoC, since it was the only real issue with it. A similar Snapdragon SoC to the RP5 would be perfect.
My rp4pro has been looking at me from the corner with tears welling in its eyes ever since the 406v arrived October 2nd, the year of our Lord 2024. I have about 20 handhelds and this one is my current favorite. Everything is so buttery smooth and comfortable, I even like how it looks. (Black transparent)
Love the effort you put in these vids. They should send you every new model in each color scheme and then some. Verticals like these will never be my flavor though, for just one simple reason: no analog triggers to play racing games that support it. Analog triggers were such a huge innovation back in the PS2 days. Wouldn't want to step back from that.
Now that Anbernic came out with the RGcubeXX I wish they had just made the cube with this screen and sticks. I know it wouldn't be the "cube" but I have the cube and I constantly wish the screen was 4:3.
Kinda wish I had the black one now. I do like the grey but that looks so nice. Such a good system for the money. Would love to see how yours is setup. To get the best out of it
@@TechDweeb can't believe you replied. My hero. Absolutely adore your videos. Your sense of humour and style is absolutely perfect. Very much look forward to that! Feel free to use the 406 as the example 🥰
Will I buy a handheld anytime soon? No way, no money! Will I skip a TechDweeb video because of that? Not in a million years! This guy is a genius! I mean, jester!
I just recently got my cube, I took a risk and I got my white cube with the rainbow buttons and I adore it. I needed an emulator that was light and could play my favorite games. now I just need it to pay Pico 8 games. 😏
I was looking at one of these ones at the time and I got the cube instead. I'm glad I watched your video, I do kinda want the vertical one just for Pico 8 games. 😅
I absolutely love vertical handhelds, but once the screen gets to 4 inches it gets too big and I would rather go with a horizontal version with this one, which I’m sure will be coming out soon and I can finally replace my 405M! Super excited for that, I just love me a good 4:3 screen!
Damn you, u almost convinced me to buy a vertical handheld! Good vid, I actually like black handhelds. Currently dreaming about my new obsession though, the Oled Odin Portal, so gotta save up my pennies for that....Sorry your highness.
Nice! Newb here and I was wondering if you could do a vid about how to tackle your retro backlog without feeling overwhelmed with too many options. What’s your advice to newbs 🤓🕹️
Last night I went through my RG406v and played one new game from 34 different systems for a few minutes each. For my adhd, I need to keep it fresh and fun. Then I click 'favorite' on each game I liked to help consolidate my ROM sets. Good luck finding your method!
oh man, this looks awesome. the last emulation device i bought was the RG350 and while decent, it definitely doesn't handle all the retro stuff i want to play. i'm particularly happy to hear that this thing can handle the saturn. i've been dying to have panzer dragoon saga on a portable device and i love the vertical form factor.
Curious little (big) device. I exclusively playing on R36s because I'm a pauper, but this style really appeals to me and the power might actually mean I can play some Dreamcast finally.
LOL the joysticks look like little baby TRex arms when the 406 has a face! LMAO!!!! I can't unsee it and it's so funny. Does anyone else see it? ..... ok... nevermind... I'll see myself out. Lol
Yes, Looney Tubes basketball! Man, I really feel this was a undiscovered gem. Would love to play others in it. Wish could play some folks online on parsec.
lol sorry, in response to @1:57 I love Anbernic but I'm not pledging loyalty to the 406v going into 2025. There will be a more powerful PS2 vertical handheld emulator, & I will purchase it right away.
It's looks like a good option for some, for me I prefer my miyoo mini plus for retro stuff, and steamdeck for the more challenging things. The one I'm actually looking forward to is if miyoo release the foldable!
Is there a more a powerful (more powerful than say rg40xx) handheld which uses linux and has at least 4.0 screen? Its such an empty niche from what I see
I know you like customizing your devices; do you think you could do a shell swap between the 405 and 406? The lack of any appealing shell is the thing currently holding me back from upgrading.
Does this feel significantly bigger than the cube or about the same? Thinking this is the way to go, dpad up top and perfect integer scaling for Gbc, gba, ps1 and n64 etc. Plus better sticks
Can u make a video on how to set things up? This looks like the perfect device for GameCube,ps1,ps2 games and will pick one up but want the nice layouts and stuff would be appreciated thanks.
The one thing i hated about the 405v was the black boarder around the screen. It just sucked my energy i don't want to use it. The white 406v fixes that.
Random question, since you were playing Streets of Rage? Has anyone noticed you’re not able to call for police backup (where the police car and blasts a bazooka to help you out) on the Streets of Rage games on Anbernic? You used to be able to on Sega Genesis.
At this price though you’re at half the price of a Steam Deck or Z1E ROG Ally. It’s still a big price difference but those systems can easily do twice what a little emulation handheld can do. I think the cheaper handhelds make sense but once the price creeps up, the value proposition disappears.
I love my rg406v. I just got it last week but I'm still trying to figure out how to put games on it 😅 not good at that sort of thing but I have managed to put 3 psp games on it haha. Brilliant video.........
Just the snappyness and simplicity of a linux based OS. Android requires more tinkering to make sure all emulators have the right settings, setting up your own frontend, etc. Linux devices come ready to rock.
